Wisconsin basketball in pursuit of a JUCO transfer center

Wisconsin basketball in pursuit of a JUCO transfer center

Wisconsin basketball is in pursuit of McCook Community College transfer center Noah Boyed, according to a report on X.

Boyed signed with Baylor in November of 2023. He was granted his release, and has since heard from Wisconsin, Ohio State, Minnesota and Creighton.

Related: Wisconsin basketball 2024-25 starting lineup and rotation with transfers Camren Hunter and Xavier Amos

The 7-foot center played in 31 games in 2023-24 and averaged 10.9 points, 8.5 rebounds and 1.48 blocks on 56.7% shooting. He is looking to make the jump to the Division I level with three years of eligibility remaining.

Wisconsin has depth at center with senior Steven Crowl back for a final season and sophomore Nolan Winter set to come off the bench. Boyed would likely enter below Winter on the depth chart, though could play his way into backup minutes.

The Badgers recently made two transfer portal splashes: point guard Camren Hunter and power forward Xavier Amos. Greg Gard and his staff remain active in the portal as the program looks to improve entering 2024-25 and beyond.

A wise piece of advice: Big Ten programs can never have enough depth and talent at forward and center, given the teams on the schedule. A possible addition of Boyed would be substantial news even if he doesn’t start.

Former Wisconsin QB Nick Evers announces transfer destination

Former Wisconsin four-star quarterback commits to UConn

Former Wisconsin quarterback Nick Evers announced his transfer commitment to UConn on Wednesday.

The former four-star recruit and top-ranked transfer joins other former Badgers WR Skyler Bell and WR/CB Dean Engram with the Huskies.

Evers transferred to Wisconsin before the 2023 season after one year with the Oklahoma Sooners. He was the No. 137 overall player in the class of 2022 and No. 8 quarterback. That rating didn’t translate onto the field, as he could not crack the depth chart at either of his first two stops.

The highly-touted quarterback was third on the pecking order at Wisconsin this offseason — behind projected starter Tyler Van Dyke and sophomore Braedyn Locke.

He now joins a UConn program where a starting job could be available. The Huskies are off a 3-9 record in 2023, that after a program-best 6-7 2022 season.

Wisconsin has significant competition for transfer DL Jay’Viar Suggs

Wisconsin has significant competition for transfer DL Jay’Viar Suggs

Wisconsin is one of several programs currently in pursuit of former Grand Valley State defensive lineman Jay’Viar Suggs.

The Badgers offered him on April 26 and recently had him on campus for an official visit.

Related: Wisconsin football 2024 spring transfer portal window tracker

Wisconsin is just one of Suggs’ five scheduled transfer visits. He will also visit Florida State, Arkansas, Kentucky and Michigan State — all formidable programs and significant competition.

The veteran defensive lineman entered the portal after totaling 14.5 tackles for loss and eight sacks over the last two seasons as a starter for Grand Valley State. He has two years of eligibility remaining and is currently ranked by On3 as only a three-star transfer.

He is likely undervalued by recruiting services due to playing at a D-II school. But the level of interest signals an impact player, or one that plays a position that every team in the nation needs help at.

Wisconsin outside linebackers coach Matt Mitchell and cornerback Nyzier Fourqurean both came from Grand Valley State, establishing a relationship that could help the Badgers earn a commitment.

For now, Luke Fickell and his program stand pat as Suggs visits the Spartans.

Wisconsin junior cornerback enters transfer portal

Wisconsin junior cornerback enters transfer portal

Wisconsin junior cornerback Michael Mack has entered the transfer portal, according to a recent X post.

Mack transferred to the Badgers last offseason after three years at Air Force. However, the veteran cornerback was unable to play during the 2023 season due to NCAA transfer rules.

Related: Wisconsin football 2024 spring transfer portal window tracker

The cornerback re-enters the portal with 20 games of experience, 69 total tackles, 2.5 tackles for loss, one interception and four pass deflections.

Reports from Wisconsin spring practice cite that Mack was the nickel corner with the Badgers’ third-team defense. He was far removed from the starting lineup, with top corners Ricardo Hallman, Nyzier Fourqurean, R.J. Delancy and Jonas Duclona in his way.

Cornerback is one of the deepest position groups on Wisconsin’s 2024 roster. It is one of the team’s strengths entering the year.

Mack is now the program’s seventh transfer departure during the spring window — none of whom were projected to start this season. Luke Fickell and his staff have some work to do to bolster the roster ahead of an important 2024 campaign. Defensive line remains the biggest need, and is one the staff is currently pursuing.

Report: Wisconsin basketball set to land commitment from another transfer guard

Report: Wisconsin basketball set to add another transfer guard

Wisconsin basketball is on the verge of landing transfer portal guard John Tonje, according to the Albuquerque Journal’s Geoff Grammer.

The story is complicated. But the former Colorado State and Missouri guard entered the transfer portal after the conclusion of the 2023-24 season. He then committed to transfer to New Mexico, though recently walked back his decision.

Related: An updated list of Wisconsin basketball’s transfer portal targets

Grammer reports that Tonje “posted on his social media accounts his commitment to play for the Lobos…and after that accepted an offer to go play at Wisconsin.” On3 also logged a transfer prediction on Sunday for him to choose Wisconsin.

On the surface, it appears the Badgers entered at the last minute and stole a commitment away from New Mexico.

The five-year college veteran averaged just 9.8 minutes, 2.6 points, 0.9 rebounds, 0.4 assists and 0.3 steals for Missouri in 2023-24. The 6’5″ guard had his best season in 2022-23 at Colorado State — 31.3 minutes, 14.6 points, 4.7 rebounds, 1.3 assists and 0.8 steals on 47% shooting and 39% from three.

Nothing is official with Tonje’s commitment to Wisconsin quite yet. But monitor this space as that could change in the coming days.

The Badgers recently landed Central Arkansas guard Camren Hunter to begin their transfer portal class. Many of the program’s top targets have been taken off the board. But the potential duo of Hunter and Tonje would be a first step toward replacing the production of Chucky Hepburn and A.J. Storr.

Wisconsin Badgers freshman cornerback enters transfer portal

Another Wisconsin defender enters the transfer portal:

Wisconsin freshman cornerback A.J. Tisdell entered the transfer portal on Friday.

The young corner was a three-star recruit in the program’s class of 2023 and redshirted during his first collegiate season.

Related: Wisconsin football 2024 spring transfer portal window tracker

Tisdell was 247Sports’ No. 796 player in the class of 2023, No. 81 cornerback and No. 124 recruit from his home state of Texas. He initially committed to Paul Chryst’s Wisconsin program in June of 2022 and stayed on once Luke Fickell got the job later that year.

RivalsPortal on X noted that Tisdell recorded 61 tackles and one interception on defense, plus nearly 300 receiving yards on offense in 2022. It should be noted those numbers were from his senior season at College Station High School.

Wisconsin’s coaching staff has prioritized the cornerback position since taking over at the end of the 2022 season. That emphasis has seen several transfers enter, plus a few highly-touted high school recruits. The cornerback room got busy in a hurry, which could’ve led to Tisdell’s departure.

Wisconsin football junior defensive end enters transfer portal

A fifth Wisconsin Badger entered the transfer portal on Thursday:

Wisconsin junior defensive end Mike Jarvis entered the transfer portal on Thursday, according to 247Sports’ Evan Flood.

Jarvis was a three-star defensive lineman in Wisconsin’s decorated class of 2021. He redshirted his freshman season in Madison before not seeing any game action in 2022 or 2023.

Related: Wisconsin football 2024 spring transfer portal window tracker

He becomes the fifth Badger to enter the transfer portal since the spring window began on April 16, joining QB Nick Evers, DL T.J. Bollers, DL Gabe Kirschke and WR Tommy McIntosh.

The Medford, New Jersey native leaves a Wisconsin defensive line room that is razor-thin entering the 2024 season. James Thompson Jr., Curt Neal, Ben Barten return as contributors, with transfer Elijah Hills bringing valuable experience from the transfer portal.

The Badgers need an addition or two in the room before the season begins.

Former Wisconsin defensive lineman commits to an ACC newcomer

Former Wisconsin defensive lineman commits to an ACC newcomer

Former Wisconsin defensive lineman T.J. Bollers committed to ACC newcomer Cal on Thursday.

Bollers previously entered the portal on April 15 after three years with the Badgers.

Related: Wisconsin football 2024 spring transfer portal window tracker

He originally joined the program as a four-star edge rusher in Wisconsin’s decorated class of 2021 — specifically ranked as the No. 159 overall recruit in the class, No. 11 edge rusher and No. 2 recruit from his home state of Iowa. The former outside linebacker was unable to find a role on the field, however, as he never perfectly fit into Jim Leonhard’s 3-4 defense or Mike Tressel’s 3-3-5 approach.

The Badgers tried moving Bollers to defensive line after he couldn’t crack the field at outside linebacker. Despite the program being razor-thin along the defensive line entering 2024, Bollers still entered the portal to seek a starting role elsewhere.

He finished his Wisconsin career with two total tackles in 16 games of action — most of that action coming on special teams.

The former top recruit now joins a Cal program that went 6-7 in its final year in the Pac 12 in 2023. It is now joining the new-look ACC along with Stanford.

Wisconsin, meanwhile, is still searching in the portal for help along the defensive line. The program has recently added offensive line depth, with defensive improvements sure to follow.

Wisconsin Badgers sophomore wide receiver enters transfer portal

Wisconsin Badgers sophomore wide receiver enters transfer portal

Wisconsin sophomore wide receiver Tommy McIntosh entered the transfer portal on Thursday.

McIntosh was a three-star commit in Wisconsin’s class of 2022 — the last class of the Paul Chryst era at the program.

Related: Wisconsin football 2024 spring transfer portal window tracker

The Michigan native did not see the field during his first two collegiate seasons. He was one of the early standouts of last year’s spring practice session, though had slid down the depth chart entering this spring.

Wisconsin’s wide receiver room is loaded after Luke Fickell’s work in the transfer portal over the last two offseasons. The group is led by transfers Will Pauling, Bryson Green and C.J. Williams — with other former transfers Quincy Burroughs, Tyrell Henry close behind.

McIntosh brings impressive size to the table at 6’5,” which should help him garner interest from other programs.

BREAKING: Wisconsin football lands transfer commitment from a former Illinois lineman

Luke Fickell adds the second transfer of the spring window

Wisconsin football landed a commitment from former Illinois Fighting Illini transfer offensive lineman Joey Okla on Wednesday.

Okla is the program’s second transfer commit in the spring window, joining former Vanderbilt OL Leyton Nelson. 247Sports’ Evan Flood noted he will walk on with the Badgers in 2024.

Related: Wisconsin football 2024 spring transfer portal window tracker

The veteran lineman was spotted at Wisconsin spring practice earlier this week. He had entered the portal on April 16.

The Harland, Wisconsin, native appeared in one game for the Fighting Illini in 2023, that after redshirting as a true freshman in 2022. Coming out of high school, he was a three-star recruit ranked 14th overall in the state of Wisconsin.

Wisconsin’s former coaching staff did not offer Okla during his high school career at Arrowhead, but Luke Fickell and the current staff clearly made him a priority.

Okla should play a depth role along Wisconsin’s 2024 offensive line with starting lineup mostly set. He primarily plays on the interior and could serve as a backup at multiple positions.

The Wisconsin commit has three years of eligibility remaining and will have plenty of time to play himself into the program’s starting lineup. For now, it’s another valuable depth add for Fickell and his staff.
