2024 3-Star Cornerback Eli Bowen commits to the Oklahoma Sooners

The Oklahoma Sooners earned a commitment from 2024 three-star cornerback Eli Bowen out of Denton Guyer.

If one commitment wasn’t enough, the Oklahoma Sooners picked up their second commitment of the day. 2024 three-star cornerback [autotag]Eli Bowen[/autotag] pledged to OU on Thursday evening.

Bowen, who plays his high school ball at the same [autotag]Denton Guyer[/autotag] as five-star freshmen [autotag]Jackson Arnold[/autotag] and brother Peyton Bowen chose the Sooners over the Texas Longhorns.

Eli Bowen is a baller. Don’t let his 5-foot-9, 165 pound frame fool you. He plays bigger than his size and is as athletic as they come. He’s a fearless tackler and is aggressive in coverage. He’s a playmaker in every sense of the word, attacking the football in the air at cornerback and safety and displaying incredible punt return ability.

He joins a defensive backfield in the 2024 cycle that includes cornerback Jeremiah Newcombe, safety Jayden Hardy, and safety Mykel Patterson-McDonald. Bowen is the seventh commitment the Sooners have pulled from the Lone Star State.

He’s the No. 37 cornerback in the 247Sports composite for the 2024 cycle. The Sooners currently sit at No. 15 in the 247Sports team recruiting rankings.

Fresh projection favors Oklahoma for 2024 four-star cornerback Eli Bowen

The Oklahoma Sooners continue to build momentum in the recruitment of 2024 four-star cornerback Eli Bowen.

With just a few weeks until the start of the regular season, the Oklahoma Sooners are looking to continue their final offseason push in the [autotag]2024 recruiting class[/autotag]. While recruiting doesn’t stop, these are the last few weeks where they won’t have game weeks prioritizing their attention.

Several key decisions will be made this month and the Sooners continue to keep momentum for 2024 cornerback Eli Bowen.

Bowen, a four-star cornerback according to Rivals and ESPN plays his high school ball at Denton Guyer. He’s a great athlete that plays bigger than his 5-foot-9, 165 pound frame might suggest.

He’s sticky in coverage and plays with great technique in man-to-man assignments. When pushed deep, he stays in phase with the wide receiver and looks back to find the ball in the air.

Bowen’s a playmaker in every sense of the word, regularly pulling the ball down in tip-drill situations, showing an adept ability to take the football away with a strip, and displays great punt return ability.

The Sooners are looking to continue to add to their secondary through the 2024 class. They only have Jeremiah Newcombe and Jaydan Hardy committed at this point, but were included in the top five for four-star cornerback Devon Jordan.

In addition to the Sooners, Bowen holds offers from a number of Power Five schools, with Texas being their biggest contender for the Guyer prospect’s commitment.

‘It’s helped me out a lot’: Jackson Arnold learning from Dillon Gabriel this offseason

There is no secret that Jackson Arnold is the future of the program but from now he learns from his veteran predecessor.

Last year the Oklahoma Sooners lacked depth at numerous positions. One of them is most important spot on the field; quarterback.

We saw when [autotag]Dillon Gabriel [/autotag] went down versus the [autotag]TCU Horned Frogs[/autotag], the offense couldn’t function as a unit. And it was even worse against Texas.

In comes true freshman and five-star [autotag]Jackson Arnold[/autotag].

The [autotag]Denton Guyer[/autotag] native came as an early enrollee and provided a glimpse of what the future may hold in the spring game. Arnold spoke to reporters following Monday’s practice and said Gabriel has helped him tremendously this offseason.

“Just learning from him and watching his game has helped me a ton,” Arnold said. “Just the little things that he does, whether it’s footwork or his reads. I can ask him, ‘What did you see there? Why did you do this? Why did you do that?’ It’s helped me out a lot so far.”

That’s what this season is about for Arnold. In an ideal scenario, he’ll never take a meaningful snap in 2023, taking advantage of the opportunity to sit back and learns. But as we saw just two years ago, the ideal plan doesn’t always work out. Sometimes you have a guy who is just too good to keep off the field.

Arnold feels like things are starting to come around for him after a hectic spring learning the playbook.

“I noticed it even today, from the scrimmage yesterday, I felt like I was really comfortable in the pocket,” Arnold said.

That comfortability is huge for incoming players. Most importantly, the quarterback of the future. The OU coaching staff hasn’t been shy about Arnold being the future of the program. 2023 is the first step in getting him ready to take on that mantle.

Sooners circle back to Denton Guyer with an offer to 2025 DL Xavier Ukponu

Oklahoma heads back to Denton Guyer for another prospect. This time it’s 2025 DL prospect Xavier Ukponu.

Oklahoma has become quite familiar with Denton over the last year. Two of the three five-stars Oklahoma signed in their 2023 class hail from Denton and played at Guyer High School. They also signed four-star running back Kalib Hicks out of crosstown Denton Ryan.

It only makes sense then that the Sooners would continue their pursuit of Denton Guyer in pursuit of talent for the future. That’s why Oklahoma offered 2025 DL prospect Xavier Ukponu on Tuesday.

Ukponu is a defensive line prospect and was part of a Guyer team that pushed its way to the Texas 6-A semifinals this past season. Their success in landing both Arnold and Bowen, plus the relationships they’ve formed with the Guyer’s coaches, should give the Sooners’ staff confidence they can go to Guyer and land another target. Additionally, the Sooners are a factor in Eli Bowen’s recruitment, a 2024 prospect at Guyer. If it’s not broken, don’t fix it.

Ukponu looks to be on the inside track to being an interior force for Guyer over the next couple of years.

He was named the DL MVP at the Next Level Athlete Texas Top 100 Showcase in Dallas. He also earned second-team All-District honors this past season.

Ukponu is lightly recruited, but with offers from Miami and Oklahoma already on his plate, it’s only a matter of time before Ukponu is swimming in other Power Five offers. As his recruitment wears on, no other team will have the level of recruiting aces up their sleeve like Oklahoma due to Jackson Arnold and Peyton Bowen, so Oklahoma should remain a factor in this race for the foreseeable future.

Social Media Reacts: OU commit Jackson Arnold slays the Dragons in Guyer’s win over Southlake Carroll

Social Media reacts to Jackson Arnold’s dominant performance in the Texas High School State Playoffs.

On a day when one Oklahoma quarterback made it known he was entering the transfer portal, a future Sooners quarterback put on a show in the Texas High School state quarterfinals.

[autotag]Jackson Arnold[/autotag] was absolutely dominant in Denton Guyer’s 45-21 win over Southlake Carroll. Guyer built a 21-7 lead in the first quarter and was up 31-14 at halftime. Arnold and the offense continued to put points on the board, but it was Oklahoma target Peyton Bowen and the defense that held the Dragons to seven second-half points to secure the win.

In the win, Arnold threw for 303 yards and two touchdowns and added 149 yards and four rushing touchdowns.

After coming up short in the state championship a year ago, Jackson Arnold and Guyer have been on a mission in the 6A-2 state tournament. The Wildcats are outscoring their opponents by an average margin of 24.5 points per game. Their closest game during their playoff run was an 18-point win over Byron Nelson a week ago, and they’re averaging 52.5 points per game in the playoffs.

It’s an incredible run that has a chance to end with Guyer as state champs. Next up is 12-2 DeSoto, which lost to St. Francis Academy in Baltimore and 13-0 Duncanville.

Social media was abuzz with Jackson Arnold’s incredible performance, and here are some of the best reactions.

Social Media Reacts: Oklahoma commit Jackson Arnold has huge night vs. Allen on ESPN

Oklahoma 5-star commit Jackson Arnold was fantastic in Denton Guyer’s 49-7 win over Texas powerhouse Allen and social media reacted accordingly.

Oklahoma 5-star quarterback commit Jackson Arnold has had quite the year. After the coaching change at Oklahoma, the Sooners appeared on Arnold’s radar due to his previous relationship with offensive coordinator Jeff Lebby while at Ole Miss.

It didn’t take long for Arnold to fill the void left by Malachi Nelson after his flip to follow Lincoln Riley to USC, becoming the first commitment in the 2023 class under Brent Venables (Joshua Bates committed under Riley and stayed committed).

A four-star prospect at the time of his commitment, Arnold’s profile has blown up in recent months. He was the Elite 11 MVP and then earned five-star status. In his senior season for Denton Guyer, he’s become must-see television.

In a primetime kickoff on ESPN, Thursday night, Jackson Arnold and his Guyer teammates rose to the occasion, defeating Texas High School powerhouse Allen 49-7. It was the biggest loss that Allen has suffered dating back to 2004, as far back as the Max Preps database goes.

Arnold was nothing short of spectacular on the evening, throwing for 338 yards and four touchdowns. He completed 89.6% of his passes and averaged 11.6 yards per attempt. He terrorized Allen on the ground as well, carrying the ball six times for 83 yards and a touchdown, including a 58-yard touchdown run.

His performance was the talk of Sooners Twitter on Thursday evening, and here are some of the best reactions from social media.

Oklahoma commit Jackson Arnold electric in Guyer’s 50-27 win Thursday night

Oklahoma Sooners five-star quarterback commit Jackson Arnold is off to a fantastic start to the season for Denton Guyer.

For months, Oklahoma 2023 commit, Jackson Arnold has seen his status rise. He won the elite 11 MVP award, earned consensus five-star status, and has helped Denton Guyer get off to a 3-0 start.

After making a trip to the Texas state championship game in 2021, Arnold and his Guyer teammates are on a roll to start the 2022 season in hopes of completing a championship run.

Through three games, Arnold’s completed 65% of his passes for 832 yards, 10 touchdowns, and zero interceptions. He also leads Guyer in rushing with 133 yards on 16 attempts with three rushing touchdowns. That’s more than 300 combined passing and rushing yards per game and four total touchdowns.

In Guyer’s win 50-27 over Lancaster, Arnold threw for 304 yards and three touchdowns and rushed for 22 yards and a touchdown.

Safe to say, the Oklahoma Sooners got one of the best, if not the best quarterbacks in the country in Jackson Arnold.

Here’s a look at some of the highlights from his big-time performance Thursday night.

Oklahoma five-star QB commit Jackson Arnold dazzles in first game of season

In the first game of his senior season, five-star QB commit Jackson Arnold puts on a show throwing for 3 touchdowns and running for another.

After an entire off-season that saw him go from a four-star quarterback prospect to five-star status and a commitment to the University of Oklahoma, Jackson Arnold finally took to the field Thursday evening to kick off the final season of his high school career. It was a dominant effort from him and his Denton Guyer team, who have state championship aspirations again after going to the state title game the last two years.

Arnold put on a clinic showing off the dual-threat ability that was incredibly enticing to Oklahoma offensive coordinator Jeff Lebby. Arnold threw for three touchdowns and used his legs to take a zone read 64 yards to the house for a fourth touchdown as Denton Guyer cruised to a 47-14 win over Rockwall Heath.

One of Arnold’s touchdown throws went to 2024 recruit Eli Bowen, a two-way player for Guyer who is also being recruited by Oklahoma and is the younger brother of 2023 safety recruit Peyton Bowen, who the Sooners have been trying to flip from Notre Dame for months.

LSU offers top 50 prospect, quarterback Jackson Arnold of Denton Guyer

One of the top Texas quarterbacks picks up an offer.

On Thursday, Denton Guyer junior quarterback Jackson Arnold became the No. 8 passer to receive an offer from LSU in the 2023 recruiting class. Three of which have already committed to other programs. Malachi Nelson is heading to USC, in-state quarterback Eli Holstein is heading to Texas A&M, and Baton Rouge quarterback Rickie Hollins pledged to Purdue.

The top target of the class is Arch Manning but the LSU Tigers have been out of the running for some time now. Arnold is a prospect that really rose up the boards with his junior season for the Denton Guyer Wildcats. Arnold led the Wildcats all the way to the 6A Division II state championship game.

In 2021, he completed 66.5% of his passes for 3,921 yards with a 34-5 touchdown-interception ratio. He is listed as a pro-style quarterback but don’t be fooled by the label, Arnold can scoot. He added 12 rushing touchdowns and 659 rushing yards this past season.

He shows good poise in the pocket and has good awareness when dropping back to pass. Arnold knows when to move the pocket and when to climb. He seems really polished for a junior quarterback at the high school level. Arnold is currently coached by LSU alum Jordan Johnson. That could help when recruiting a quarterback for the 2023 class, or it could mean nothing as they are later in the process than other schools like Oklahoma.
