Nets’ Dennis Schroder, Germany defeat Brazil 86-73 in Paris Olympics

Brooklyn Nets guard Dennis Schroder put up 20 points and six assists to help Germany beat Brazil on Tuesday 86-73.

Brooklyn Nets guard Dennis Schroder is one of the few people within the organization that is busy this time of year given that he’s trying to help his native Germany win the gold medal. Germany is ultimately going to have to get far enough in the 2024 Paris Olympics to have a shot at beating the United States, but the German National Team is doing its part to get there.

Germany beat Brazil on Tuesday 86-73 to get to 2-0 within their field thanks to Schroder’s 20 points and six assists to lead the team in both categories. In the first half, it looked like Germany may not be keeping its part to get deep enough in the tournament to face Team USA as they tied Brazil 40-40 at halftime.

Germany began the game by winning the first quarter 22-10, but lost the second quarter 30-18 to seemingly lose any advantage they gained in the initial period. Germany went on to take care of business from that point on as they led 60-51 after three quarters before winning the fourth quarter by four points to reach the final score.

Schroder was huge in the contest for Germany, but he also received help from Orlando Magic forward Franz Wagner (17 points) and Bayern Munich guard Issac Bonga (15 points). Due to Schroder coming through for his country when they needed him most, he also sent France and Canada to the Quarterfinals because of how the group stages work in this tournament.

Nets’ Dennis Schroder, Germany defeats Japan 97-77 in Paris

Brooklyn Nets guard Dennis Schroder put up 13 points and 12 assists to lead Germany to a 97-77 win over Japan on Saturday in Paris.

The Brooklyn Nets are in the middle of an offseason that plenty of fans are excited about now that the franchise is embracing their next rebuild. However, that doesn’t mean that all of the people within Brooklyn’s organization is taking the summer off as one of their guards is trying to win a gold medal for his country.

Nets guard Dennis Schroder led his native Germany to their first win in the 2024 Paris Olympics by beating Japan 97-77 on Saturday. Schroder put up 13 points and 12 assists in the winning effort as the German National Team got off to a good start in the first quarter by leading the Japanese National Team 28-21 at the end of the period.

Germany went into the matchup as the favorite and they played like it as they never gave Japan much of a chance to threaten the outcome of the game. The German National Team has been successful in FIBA play over the past few years as they finished in third place in the FIBA EuroBasket in 2022 and won gold at the FIBA World Cup last summer.

Schroder did get some help in Germany’s rout of Japan as Orlando Magic forward Franz Wagner dropped 22 points and six rebounds while New Orleans Pelicans center Daniel Theis put up 18 points and seven rebounds. Germany’s next game is on Tuesday against Brazil.

Nets’ Dennis Schroder named flag-bearer for Germany heading into Olympics

Brooklyn Nets guard Dennis Schroder was named as the official flag-bearer for Germany heading into the 2024 Paris Olympics.

Brooklyn Nets guard Dennis Schroder is not playing for Team USA, but it doesn’t mean that he isn’t involved in the festivities of the 2024 Paris Olympics. Schroder will be leading the German National Team to the goal of a gold medal and he will be doing so with the great honor of being the flag-bearer for the country.

Schroder posted Tuesday on his Instagram page a picture of him holding the German flag with subsequent reports confirming that he will be the flag-bearer for Germany. Schroder has a tough task ahead of him as Team Germany will be depending on him to be one of the driving forces for a team that is trying to be the last team standing, something that would probably have to include upsetting Team USA at some point.

The 2024 Paris Olympics begin on Friday, but prior to the games being official, each team had their chance of tune-up games to get ready for the sporting event. If those exhibitions are any indication of how close Germany could be to proving competitive within the field, they did lose to the Americans 92-88 on Monday and the Germans possibly could have pulled off the upset if it wasn’t for the greatness of Los Angeles Lakers superstar LeBron James.

With that being said, Schroder understands what an honor it is to be a flag-bearer for a country, especially on the stage of the Olympics that virtually everyone around the world will be watching. Schroder had this to say about being named the official flag-bearer for Germany:

“It’s insane. With my background, my mom’s from Gambia, me being dark-skinned in Germany, been tough sometimes growing up. To be able to represent Germany, it’s insane.”

Nets’ Dennis Schroder, Germany lose exhibition to Team USA 92-88

Brooklyn Nets guard Dennis Schroder put up 13 points and 10 assists in Germany’s 92-88 loss to Team USA in Monday’s exhibition matchup.

The Brooklyn Nets do not have any players on the roster that are participating in the upcoming Olympics for Team USA, but they do have a player that will be playing in the event. Brooklyn guard Dennis Schroder is representing his native Germany in the Olympics and during the current tune-up circuit, he almost pulled off an upset over the Americans.

Schroder and the German National Team lost to Team USA on Monday 92-88 in what proved to be the final exhibition for both teams prior to the start of the 2024 Paris Olympics. Schroder did his part for the Germans as he put up 13 points and 10 assists as the point guard while getting a lot of help from players like Orlando Magic forward Franz Wagner (18 points).

The Germans made things interesting in the second half as they led the Americans 71-68 heading into the fourth quarter, something that made a lot of Team USA fans wonders if the Americans were going to lose an exhibition. Team USA did come dangerously close to losing to South Sedan, coached by former Nets assistant Royal Ivey, and the same almost happened to the Americans on Monday.

Germany is playing for something as well as this same team won the gold medal at the 2023 FIBA World Cup and they are looking for the grand prize of winning it all at the Olympics. Highlights from Schroder and the rest of the game can be found down below:

Did Nets’ Dennis Schroder miss out on big payday with Lakers?

Brooklyn Nets guard Dennis Schroder was regarded as one of the players who missed up their chance at a big payday. Here’s more.

Brooklyn Nets guard Dennis Schroder is set to go into the 2024-25 season to compete for the starting point guard job as the team heads into a full rebuild. Schroder has clearly been enjoying himself this summer and while free-agency has died down, this is a good time to remember what could have been for Schroder.

Bryan Toporek of Bleacher Report recently ranked Schroder as one of the players that missed out on a huge payday due to a miscalculation of what the free-agent market would bring. The reason why is because his time with the Los Angeles Lakers, Schroder turned down a four-year, $84 million contract extension, according to ESPN’s Brian Windhorst.

To be clear, ESPN’s Dave McMenamin reported that the Lakers approached Schroder’s agent about an extension without providing specific terms, something that Schroder denied at the time. Schroder went on to sign a one-year, $5.89 million deal with the Boston Celtics heading into the 2021-22 season before going back to the Lakers on a one-year, $2.64 contract for the 2022-23 season.

Schroder eventually got back on track when he signed a two-year, $25.4 million deal with the Toronto Raptors heading into the 2023-24 campaign before being traded to the Nets at the trade deadline. Schroder is set to make $13 million from Brooklyn this season which is not too far off from the $21 million in average annual value (AAV) that he would have made from the Lakers if he accepted the extension.

Schroder has since moved on from the incident and even had some fun it initially, but he has also maintained that the extension was not formally offered by the Lakers. He even told Yahoo! Sports’ Jake Fischer that if the Lakers offered that extension to him, he would have signed it.

Nets’ Dennis Schroder, Evan Fournier get into scuffle in exhibition game

Brooklyn Nets guard Dennis Schroder and NBA free-agent Evan Fournier got into a scuffle during their exhibition matchup on Saturday.

The Brooklyn Nets, along with every other team in the NBA, is on hiatus right now as various players are either getting ready for next season or getting ready for the upcoming Paris Olympics. When it comes to Brooklyn point guard Dennis Schroder, he’s ready to go whether he’s playing in the NBA or in international play.

On Saturday, there was a video that circulated on social media of Schroder and NBA free-agent Evan Fournier getting into a scuffle after Fournier was called for a foul on Schroder. Schroder did not like the contact between the two players in what was an exhibition matchup between Schroder’s German national team and Fournier’s French national team.

The two had to broken up after Fournier choked Schroder after he put his hands on Fournier’s neck area following the foul call and Schroder getting to his feet. After the two were separated, they appeared to be get to some kind of middle ground during their conversation, but it was all for nothing as Fournier was still ejected for choking Schroder in the first place.

With France and Germany preparing for the Olympics in the hopes of winning a gold medal, it’s clear that both teams are even takin the exhibition matches seriously. Schroder will look to lead his native Germany as far as possible before coming back to the United States to do the same for the Nets.

Evan Fournier ejected for grabbing Dennis Schroder’s neck and igniting a scuffle during a Germany-France friendly

Whew this escalated!

Maybe they shouldn’t call these exhibition matches “friendlies” any more.

With Germany and France taking the court against each other on July 6, things got pretty heated between Evan Fournier and Dennis Schröder — two long-time NBA players who both know they’d never get away with these antics in the Association.

After Schröder confronted Fournier on the baseline, Fournier responded by putting both of his hands around the guard’s neck before both teams came flying in to break up the scuffle.

You don’t really expect to see two veterans going at each other like this, but the two seemed to make up after Fournier was (rightfully) ejected.

Let’s save that extra energy for the Olympics, guys. Paris is waiting.

Nets’ Dennis Schroder discusses his future in Brooklyn

Brooklyn Nets guard Dennis Schroder recently discussed his future in Brooklyn with an outlet in his native Germany.

Brooklyn Nets guard Dennis Schroder was one of the more valuable additions that the team made last season despite the fact that the franchise disappointedly missed the playoffs. However, Schroder was one of the reasons that Brooklyn was in contention for the postseason until the last few days of the season and he has some thoughts on his future with the Nets.

“Brooklyn is a really cool, great organization, quite family-oriented. I’d definitely like to stick around for the long haul — My agent and I feel like the Nets liked how I contributed,” Schroder recently said in an interview with Ute Berndt of German outlet Braunschweiger Zeitung. As part of the piece, Schroder talked about his time with the Toronto Raptors and where he sees his future in the NBA going.

“I’ve brought in more defense, teamwork and displayed leadership,” Schroder said. “But, if someone as exceptional as (Milwaukee Bucks superstar) Giannis Antetokounmpo or another superstar wants to join Brooklyn, the Nets could make deals to acquire that player … and that’s why nothing is certain in the NBA.”

It’s well-known in NBA circles right now that the Nets are one of the teams looking to make big moves of their franchise in the next couple of years and the organization seeks to be a winner as soon as possible. At the moment, what many are waiting for is to see which direction Brooklyn goes in and when they decide to go that way.

Schroder, 30, has one year left on his current contract and is slated to make $13.025 million next season as potentially the starting point guard depending how much Ben Simmons is able to recover by the time next season starts. For now, he is enjoying his time in his native Germany until it is time to come back to Brooklyn to prove that he should part of the Nets’ future.

Nets’ Dennis Schroder gives Jalen Wilson credit for winning plays

Brooklyn Nets guard Dennis Schroder recently gave rookie Jalen Wilson credit for always being able to make winning plays.

The Brooklyn Nets are at a point of their franchise where they have to carefully each move they make if they want to get back to being a title contender sometime soon. One of the players that Brooklyn will be depending on is Jalen Wilson, someone that has already drawn praise from a well-known veteran.

“I’m a big fan of not chasing stat lines and J Will does a lot of things what don’t show on the stat sheet,” Nets guard Dennis Schroder said of Wilson who just finished his rookie season. As part of the Nets’ “Year 1” series, Schroder was asked about what Wilson brings to the team when he steps on the floor and a noticeable part of his game is his intangibles.

“(Wilson) impacts winning and I like that most about him,” Schroder said of Wilson. Despite the fact that Wilson came into the 2023-24 season as the 51st overall pick in the 2023 NBA Draft and was eventually signed as a Two-Way player, he ended up playing 43 games and had some nice moments along the way.

Brooklyn came into the season hoping to make the playoffs following the breakup of the Big 3 and when things looked dire heading into the All-Star break, the team turned to Wilson for a spark. Wilson averaged 5.0 points, 3.0 rebounds, and 1.0 assists per game while shooting 42.5% from the field and 32.4% from three-point land.

Wilson showed some promising traits as a player who could be a force on the glass for someone of his size and someone who isn’t afraid to get his hands dirty. If he can refine his offensive game to the point of being a threat, Wilson could be one of the players to make waves next season, assuming that he gets a bigger role on the Nets.

Nets’ Dennis Schroder plays professional soccer in his native Germany

Per several posts across social media, Brooklyn Nets guard Dennis Schroder made his professional soccer debut in Germany on Wednesday.

The Brooklyn Nets have been trying to gather as much talent as possible so that they can turn their franchise around and start competing for championships again. While Brooklyn has a ways to go before getting to the point of being a title contender, one of its players is now a pro in a sport other than basketball.

Per several posts on various social media websites, along with an article by Anthony Gharib of ESPN, Nets guard Dennis Schroder made his professional soccer debut on Wednesday while he’s back home in Germany for the summer. Schroder made his debut for FC Germania Bleckenstedt, a team within Landesliga Braunschweig, Germany’s sixth division.

Schroder, born in Braunschweig, Germany, is known for his talents on the basketball court, but it looks like he could be playing something else when he is done with the NBA. It also seems that Schroder is training with the team so that he can stay in shape for the Olympics.

Schroder has been representing Germany in FIBA competition and in the Olympics despite having played in the NBA since 2013 when he made his NBA debut with the Atlanta Hawks.

Schroder, 30, is coming off a 2023-24 season in which he averaged 14.0 points, 3.0 rebounds, and 6.1 assists per game while shooting 43.5% from the field and 37.5% from three-point land during his time with the Toronto Raptors and the Nets.
