Analyzing Saturday’s Delaware at St. John’s odds and lines, with college basketball expert picks, predictions and best bets.

The Delaware Blue Hens (7-5) face the No. 24 St. John’s Red Storm (10-2) Saturday. Tip-off from Carnesecca Arena in Queens, N.Y., is set for 6 p.m. ET (FS1). Let’s analyze BetMGM Sportsbook’s college basketball odds around the Delaware vs. St. John’s odds, and make our expert college basketball picks and predictions.

The Blue Hens lost 72-64 to the St. Peter’s Peacocks Dec. 20, failing to cover as 2.5-point road underdogs. The Under 142 cashed as the Peacocks grabbed 12 offensive rebounds, converting them into 11 second-chance points. G Niels Lane led Delaware with 20 points, adding 4 rebounds, 2 blocks, 1 assist and 1 steal in a solid performance.

St. John’s extended their winning streak to 5 games Dec. 20, edging Providence 72-70. They didn’t cover as 5.5-point road favorites, and the 142-point total pushed. Four Red Storm starters reached double figures, with F Zuby Ejiofor leading the team with 19 points and 10 rebounds. St. John’s defense was key, forcing 17 turnovers, which resulted in 19 points off those turnovers.

Delaware at St. John’s picks and predictions

Prediction

St. John’s 92, Delaware 62

Moneyline

PASS.

You obviously can’t bet the moneyline because they are not offering a line. You wouldn’t want to bet whatever crazy line they offered anyway. Take your wager to the spread in this one.

Against the spread

BET ST. JOHN’S -25.5 (-105).

St. John’s brings an explosive offense, averaging 84 points per game (PPG), and it has been even more dominant at home with an 8-0 record, covering the last 3 games at Carnesecca Arena. In its most recent home game, the Johnnies defeated an improved DePaul Blue Demons squad by 28 points, holding them to 61 points, while they average 79.8 PPG.

Meanwhile, the Blue Hens have struggled on the road, losing their last 2 games against St. Peter’s and the Duquesne Dukes, averaging only 65 points in those matchups. Neither of those teams would be considered good, with a combined 10-13 record.

The talent disparity between St. John’s and Delaware is clear, but the question remains: can the Red Storm cover such a large spread? After covering a 20 plus point spread against Bryant, I expect St. John’s to do the same again Saturday evening in Queens.

Over/Under

PASS.

I lean toward the Under, but I’m not confident enough to officially back it.

Delaware is 2-2 in their last 4 games against the Under, while St. John’s is 3-2-1 in their last 6. In the Red Storm’s last game with a 20 plus point spread, the total went Over, but Bryant, averaging 82.3 PPG, scored 77 points. Delaware averages 78.2 PPG, but I don’t expect them to reach that against St. John’s, who allows just 67.7 PPG. The Blue Hens and their opponents have combined for over 158.5 points in just 3 of 8 games this season.

I like the Under but am not confident enough to bet on it.

March Madness: Delaware vs. Villanova odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Friday’s Delaware vs. Villanova odds and lines, with college basketball expert picks, predictions and best bets.

The No. 15 seed Delaware Blue Hens (22-12) face the second-seeded Villanova Wildcats (26-7) Friday in a South Region first-round matchup at PPG Paints Arena in Pittsburgh. Tip-off is scheduled for 2:45 p.m. ET (CBS). Below, we look at the Delaware vs. Villanova odds and lines, and make our expert college basketball picks, predictions and bets.

Delaware clinched a Big Dance berth by winning the Colonial Athletic Association tournament as a conference 4-seed. The Blue Hens are 145th in KenPom’s adjusted net rating and played the 201st ranked strength of schedule, according to USA TODAY’s Jeff Sagarin.

Villanova defeated Creighton to win its fourth Big East Tournament title in the last five years. The Wildcats rank 11th in KenPom’s adjusted net efficiency and played the 12th-toughest schedule (per Sagarin).

  • Money line: Delaware +800 (bet $100 to win $800) | Villanova -1600 (bet $1,600 to win $100)
  • Against the spread (ATS): Delaware +15.5 (-110) | Villanova -15.5 (-110)

Delaware vs. Villanova odds, lines, picks and predictions

Prediction

Villanova 80, Delaware 55

Money line

PASS  because I wouldn’t lay -1600 in any sports wagering situation let alone one as chaotic as March Madness. Villanova should beat Delaware with ease but that doesn’t excuse betting a -1600 money line.

Against the spread

BET VILLANOVA -15.5 (-110) because it has a couple of glaring strength-on-weakness edges over Delaware.

Also the Wildcats do a good job defending two of the Blue Hens’ strengths — 3-point shooting and getting to the free throw line.

Villanova has an above-average offensive rebounding rate and shoots a lot of 3-pointers and hits at a pretty good clip (21st in 3-point attempt rate and 58th in 3-point percentage). Delaware is 285th in defensive rebounding rate and 271st in defensive 3-point percentage.

Furthermore, Villanova has won two national titles since 2016 and has been very profitable in tournament games over that span (9-4 ATS with a plus-2.3 ATS margin).

Delaware had a very easy strength of schedule this season. The Blue Hens got smacked against Davidson 93-71 in its only game against an NCAA tournament team and were 0-2 versus Quad 1 teams.

BET VILLANOVA -15.5 (-110).

Over/Under

PASS  because there isn’t a big enough margin between my prediction and the projected total so I don’t see much value in this number.

I lean toward the Under since both teams play at a very slow pace and Villanova is 0-6 O/U in the last six games as a neutral-site favorite.

However, we’d be getting the worst of the number since Delaware-Villanova opened with a 137.5-point total, per Pregame.com.

CAA Championship: Delaware vs. UNC Wilmington odds, picks and prediction

Analyzing Tuesday’s Delaware vs. UNC Wilmington CAA Championship odds and lines, with college basketball expert picks, predictions and best bets.

The Delaware Blue Hens (21-12) face the UNC Wilmington Seahawks (23-8) Tuesday in the Colonial Athletic Association championship game. Tip-off from Entertainment & Sports Arena in Washington, D.C., is at 7 p.m. ET (CBS Sports Network). Below, we look at the Delaware vs. UNC Wilmington odds and lines, and make our expert college basketball picks, predictions and bets.

The Blue Hens stunned top-seed Towson in the semifinals Monday, winning 69-56 as 5-point underdogs as the Under cashed. Defensive play has been the name of the game for Delaware as it has allowed just 56 points in each game of the CAA tourney so far. The Under is 7-2 in the past nine games overall for Delaware.

The Seahawks just topped the Blue Hens 69-62 in Delaware in their regular-season finale Feb. 26 as 5.5-point underdogs. UNCW swept the season series, covering in each of the outings.

Delaware vs. UNC Wilmington odds, lines, picks and predictions

Prediction

UNC Wilmington 71, Delaware 68

Money line

UNC WILMINGTON (+120) swept the regular-season series, although both games were very close affairs. The Seahawks have also won three of the past four in this series after a six-game win streak by the Blue Hens dating back to March 4, 2017.

Against the spread

UNC WILMINGTON +2.5 (-120) is the lean. UNCW has covered four straight games, including the most recent meeting with Delaware. The Seahawks have been using sound defense to get themselves positioned for their first trip to the NCAA Tournament since 2017. The Blue Hens dominated this series for years, now it’s the Seahawks’ turn.

Over/Under

The UNDER 133.5 (-110) is the play here.

Wilmington has cashed the Under in four straight games, and six of the past nine games overall. That includes the most recent battle against Delaware.

The Blue Hens have hit the Under in three straight, and seven of their last nine games overall. This will be a lower-scoring game in the nation’s capital, so take the Under along with UNCW for a nice parlay opportunity.
