Broncos have lost 9 staff members in 2025 following Rob Paton’s departure

Rob Paton has left the Broncos’ scouting department to join the Jets. He is the ninth employee to leave Denver this offseason.

Yet another Denver Broncos employee has left the club.

Broncos scout Rob “Robbie” Paton is leaving the team to become a co-director of player personnel for the New York Jets, according to KUSA-TV’s Mike Klis. Paton will now reunite with Jets general manager Darren Mougey, who left Denver this offseason for a promotion in New York.

Paton played safety at UCLA before coaching defensive backs at Loyola High School and then returning to the Bruins as a scouting analyst. He was hired by the Broncos in 2017, four years before his uncle, George Paton, became the team’s general manager.

The younger Paton is the ninth staff member to leave Denver this offseason.

Broncos have to fill 5 positions on Sean Payton’s coaching staff

The Broncos need to fill five positions on Sean Payton’s coaching staff this offseason.

The Denver Broncos were hit hard by other clubs poaching coaching staff talent this offseason.

The Broncos lost assistant special teams coach Chris Banjo to the New York Jets, passing game coordinator John Morton to the Detroit Lions and tight ends coach Declan Doyle to the Chicago Bears.

The 2025 Broncos are the first team since the 2021 Los Angeles Rams to have three coaches poached for coordinator jobs, according to KUSA-TV’s Mike Klis.

Additionally, Denver fired special teams coordinator Ben Kotwica and inside linebackers coach Greg Manusky. That gives the team five total positions on Sean Payton’s staff that need to be filled this offseason.

Broncos coaching staff openings

  1. Special teams coordinator
  2. Assistant special teams coach
  3. Tight ends coach
  4. Passing game coordinator
  5. Inside linebackers coach

Ex-senior personnel executive David Shaw also left for a coaching role with the Lions, but his old position is not necessarily one that needs to be filled.

Former New Orleans Saints interim coach/special teams coach Darren Rizzi is considered a top candidate to get the special teams coordinator job in Denver, and Phil Galiano could join him as an assistant.

Former New England Patriots tight ends coach Bob Bicknell could be a potential candidate to fill the TEs coach position in Denver, per Klis. Bicknell coached with Broncos senior offensive assistant Pete Carmichael with the New Orleans Saints from 2022-2023 when Carmichael was an offensive coordinator.

Yet another Broncos coach is a candidate to leave this offseason

Broncos pass game coordinator is a candidate for the Lions’ offensive coordinator position.

Sean Payton built quite the staff with the Denver Broncos.

Now other clubs are starting to poach from that staff.

So far this offseason, the Broncos have lost assistant general manager Darren Mougey to the New York Jets and tight ends coach Declan Doyle to the Chicago Bears. More departures could be on the way.

Denver’s pass game coordinator, John Morton, is a “candidate to watch” for the Detroit Lions’ offensive coordinator position, according to a report from NFL Network (via Lions Wire).

Morton, 55, previously served as a senior offensive assistant with the Lions in 2022 before joining the Broncos in 2023, so he’s familiar with Detroit. Morton has already interviewed with Dan Campbell for the Lions’ OC position, according to NFLN.

Morton could be the third staff member to leave Denver in 2025, and he might not be the last. Three teams are interested in Broncos assistant special teams coach Chris Banjo, and clubs have also interviewed defensive coordinator Vance Joseph and executive David Shaw this offseason.

We will track all of Denver’s coaching staff developments on Broncos Wire.

Former Saints assistant joining Dennis Allen on the Bears coaching staff

A former New Orleans Saints coach will be heading from the Denver Broncos to the Chicago Bears, joining Dennis Allen on their revamped staff:

Another former New Orleans Saints coach will be on the move this offseason, and this time it is Denver Broncos tight ends coach Declan Doyle moving on to join the Chicago Bears as their offensive coordinator. This will be the second former Saints coach joining as a coordinator under Ben Johnson, with Dennis Allen recently hired as the defensive coordinator for them as well.

Doyle was an offensive assistant with the Saints from 2019 to 2022, and then a year after Sean Payton left went to follow him to the Broncos, working there as a tight ends coach in 2023 and 2024. He has now gone to the Bears to work under Ben Johnson as the offensive coordinator, which is an enormously quick promotion and one that will give him the chance to work with some up-and-coming young players.

Doyle will join Allen as the primary coordinators under Johnson, and they almost ended up having Darren Rizzi as special teams coordinator as well, however that ultimately fell through. The Sean Payton tree is ever growing, and continues to do so this offseason with Aaron Glenn and Declan Doyle becoming major components of other coaching staffs.

Broncos assistant coach leaves team for promotion with Bears

Broncos tight ends coach Declan Doyle has left the team to become the new offensive coordinator of the Chicago Bears.

The Chicago Bears are hiring former Denver Broncos tight ends coach Declan Doyle as their new offensive coordinator, according to a report from NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport.

Doyle joined Sean Payton’s staff with the Broncos in 2023 after previously coaching as an offensive assistant with the New Orleans Saints from 2019-2022. Before that, he was a student offensive assistant at Iowa from 2016-2018.

Doyle is the second member of Denver’s staff to leave this offseason, and he might not be the last.

Broncos assistant general manager Darren Mougey previously left for the GM job with the New York Jets, and multiple coaches have drawn interest from clubs this offseason.

Three teams are interested in Broncos special teams coach Chris Banjo, two teams interviewed (but did not hire) defensive coordinator Vance Joseph, the Detroit Lions interviewed passing game coordinator Johnny Morton and the Bears previously showed interest in executive David Shaw before hiring Doyle.

We will track all of Denver’s coaching staff buzz on Broncos Wire.

Cowboys might poach a coach from Sean Payton’s staff

The Cowboys are interviewing Broncos assistant coach Chris Banjo for their special teams coordinator position.

A Denver Broncos assistant coach is in high demand.

We already knew Broncos assistant special teams coach Chris Banjo was a candidate for the special teams coordinator openings with the New York Jets and San Francisco 49ers. Now a third team has entered the mix.

The Dallas Cowboys are also interviewing Banjo for their ST opening, according to a report from ESPN’s Todd Archer.

Landing a coordinator position this offseason would be an impressive rise for Banjo. He played as a safety and special teams ace in the NFL from 2013-2022 before hanging up his cleats and transitioning to coaching.

Broncos coach Sean Payton hired Banjo as an assistant special teams coach in 2023 and after just two years on the job, Banjo is now a candidate for a big promotion.

Denver might consider Banjo for its own coordinator opening after firing Ben Kotwica, but Darren Rizzi is believed to be the Broncos’ preferred candidate to replace Kotwica.

Elsewhere on the coaching front, the Chicago Bears want to interview Denver executive David Shaw and tight ends coach Declan Doyle for their offensive coordinator position. We will track all of the team’s coaching staff developments on Broncos Wire.

Bears want to interview 2 Broncos for offensive coordinator job

Broncos executive David Shaw and tight ends coach Declan Doyle are both candidates for the Bears’ offensive coordinator job.

After being named the new head coach of the Chicago Bears, Ben Johnson is now working on filling out his coaching staff with the NFC North club.

Johnson has asked the Denver Broncos for permission to interview senior personnel executive David Shaw for Chicago’s offensive coordinator position, according to Brag Biggs of the Chicago Tribune. Shaw previously interviewed for the head coach opening before Johnson was hired.

In addition to Shaw, the Bears are also seeking permission to interview tight ends coach Declan Doyle. Biggs tweeted on Friday that Chicago “would likely to have to give him OC title to get him out of Denver.”

So it appears that two Broncos staffers — Shaw and Doyle — are both candidates for the offensive coordinator position with the Bears.

Elsewhere on the coaching staff front, the New York Jets, San Francisco 49ers and Dallas Cowboys are all interested in Chris Banjo, Denver’s assistant special teams coach.

The Broncos already lost executive Darren Mougey to the Jets this offseason. We’ll see if any other staff members leave Denver in the coming weeks.

Broncos coaching staff update: Strength coach and TE coach on deck

The Broncos have a new tight ends coach and they are closing in on a strength and conditioning coach.

Sean Payton’s coaching staff is coming together.

After previously hiring Zach Strief as the Denver Broncos’ new offensive line coach, Payton is now expected to add two more former members of the New Orleans Saints’ coaching staff.

Dan Dalrymple, who served as the Saints’ head strength and conditioning coach from 2006-2022, is “firmly in the mix” to accept the same role in Denver, according to a report from KUSA-TV’s Mike Klis.

Meanwhile, the Broncos are set to hire ex-New Orleans offensive assistant Declan Doyle, according to neworleans.football’s Nick Underhill. Doyle is expected to become Denver’s new tight ends coach.

Elsewhere on the coaching front, offensive coordinator Justin Outten has left the Broncos to become the new running backs coach for the Tennessee Titans. Denver’s list of candidates to replace Outten includes Ronald Curry, another former Saint.

On the other side of the ball, Payton has interviewed six candidates for the team’s defensive coordinator position. We are tracking all of the Broncos’ coaching staff changes on this page.

Saints assistant Declan Doyle is joining Sean Payton’s Broncos coaching staff

Former Saints offensive assistant Declan Doyle is, like Zach Strief, leaving for a promotion on Sean Payton’s coaching staff with the Broncos:

Former New Orleans Saints offensive assistant Declan Doyle is, like Zach Strief, leaving for a promotion on Sean Payton’s coaching staff with the Denver Broncos per NewOrleans.Football’s Nick Underhill. Doyle helped out with the Saints tight ends and coached some prospects at that position during this year’s Senior Bowl, but the opportunity for advancement with the coach that hired him in the first place was worth pursuing.

Doyle is another departure for Payton’s Broncos staff after he brought Strief, their assistant offensive line coach, in for a full-time role. Multiple former Saints coaches are also in consideration for jobs under Payton in Denver, though at least one assistant, Kevin Petry, is staying in New Orleans.

The Saints also dismissed longtime tight ends coach Dan Roushar earlier this offseason (who has since been hired as Tulane’s offensive line coach), and Doyle was at least initially viewed as a candidate to replace him. With both of them out of the building, Dennis Allen instead turned to veteran coach Clancy Barone, who has a history of helping his players reach their Pro Bowl potential. Hopefully the Saints can re-sign tight end Juwan Johnson, who is a restricted free agent coming off of a breakout year.

Broncos coaching staff changes: 6 moves on deck

Here’s the latest on the Broncos’ coaching staff changes.

The coaching staff changes continue for the Denver Broncos.

The Broncos have “parted ways” with inside linebackers coach Peter Hansen, according to KUSA-TV’s Mike Klis. Denver also won’t bring back outside linebackers coach Bert Watts, according to The Denver Post‘s Parker Gabriel.

Meanwhile, the Broncos are eyeing New Orleans Saints offensive assistant Declan Doyle as a tight ends coach, according to Josina Anderson of CBS Sports. That presumably means that holdover TEs coach Jake Moreland is out.

Denver is also targeting Saints assistant to the head coach/offensive assistant Kevin Petry, according to Jeff Duncan of The Times-Picayune. It’s unclear what role Petry would hold with the Broncos.

After bringing in ex-Saints Zach Strief as their new offensive line coach, Klis reports that the team is not expected to retain assistant OL coach Ben Steele.

Klis has also named-dropped Dan Dalrymple as a potential candidate to replace former strength and conditioning coach Loren Landow.

We are tracking all of the coaching staff changes on this page.
