Dayton at UNLV odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Tuesday’s Dayton at UNLV odds and lines, with college basketball expert picks, predictions and best bets.

The No. 23 Dayton Flyers (2-0) and UNLV Rebels (2-0) tangle Tuesday in Las Vegas. The opening tip at Thomas & Mack Center will be at 11 p.m. ET (CBSSN). Below, we analyze Tipico Sportsbook’s lines around the Dayton vs. UNLV odds, and make our expert college basketball picks, predictions and bets.

Rankings courtesy of the USA TODAY Sports Coaches Poll.

Dayton had a little trouble late in its Friday game against SMU. The Mustangs pulled level with the Flyers (59-59) by the 5:04-mark of the 2nd half, but UD finished the game on a 15-3 run to cover an 11-point spread in a 74-62 triumph. Six-foot-10 F DaRon Holmes tallied 20 to lead the Flyers.

The Rebels are 0-2 against the spread, having played a couple of games more worthy of bigger routs than they cranked out. That’s despite the Rebels being the beneficiary of a combined 51 turnovers in their wins over Southern (66-56, Nov. 7) and Incarnate Word (88-63 Saturday).

Dayton at UNLV picks and predictions

Prediction

Dayton 69, UNLV 63

Moneyline

Dayton is the more balanced team and figures to be more up for this talent level than UNLV at this early stage.

Consider a line watch here: Dayton is a solid near-2/3 proposition. Wanting some wiggle room for profit, we would want a Flyers -180 tag, or better.

PASS — but keep an eye on the Dayton price.

Against the spread

I peg Dayton as going 4-3 ATS in 7 comparable games last season. A couple of the losses, however, were pocked with outlier shooting results. This team returns a ton of talent — many freshmen from a year ago — and is a program on the rise.

Edges on the boards and in field-goal defense figure to get the Flyers by with a cushion of 2 full scores. BACK DAYTON -4.5 (-105).

Over/Under

No leeway, and no sense in forcing a play here. PASS.

NIT Tournament: Dayton vs. Vanderbilt odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Sunday’s Dayton vs. Vanderbilt odds and lines, with college basketball expert picks, predictions and best bets.

The No. 1 seed Dayton Flyers (24-10) visit the No. 4 seed Vanderbilt Commodores (18-16) at Memorial Gymnasium in Nashville, Tenn. Tip-off is scheduled for 3 p.m. ET. Below, we look at the Dayton vs. Vanderbilt odds and lines, and make our expert college basketball picks, predictions and bets.

The Flyers come this game following a 74-55 opening-round victory over Toledo, covering as 1.5-point underdogs. The Flyers were 7-5 straight up (SU) on the road this season and are 8-3 against the spread (ATS) over their last 11 outings.

Dayton is led in scoring by F DaRon Holmes II, who averaged 11.9 points per game in the regular season. It has wins over Miami (FL), Kansas, and Virginia Tech this season; however, it lost to Richmond in the Atlantic 10 Tournament.

Vanderbilt is led by G Scottie Pippen Jr., who averaged 20.5 points per game in the regular season. It is coming off an 82-71 victory over Belmont in the first round of the NIT Tournament.

The Commodores beat Arkansas earlier in the year but lost to Kentucky 77-71 in the SEC Tournament after beating Georgia and Alabama, ending their NCAA Tournament dreams.

They are 22-12 ATS this season yet just 10-8 SU at home.

Dayton vs. Vanderbilt odds, lines, picks and predictions

Prediction

Dayton 70, Vanderbilt 67

Money line

PASS.

Dayton has been uniquely incredible at keeping games close, so while I like them to win, I’ll still take the spread instead of the plus-money odds here. Four of its 10 total losses have come by 1 or 2 points.

The 2.5-point spread seems like the best bet in this game.

Against the spread

BET DAYTON +2.5 (-107).

Dayton is 7-5 ATS on the road this season. Its resume speaks volumes to what its ceiling is. The Flyers have downed multiple teams in the NCAA Tournament, including No. 1-seed Kansas.

Its success comes from defensive play that ranks 53rd in the nation in opponents shooting (41.0).

The Flyers’ two top-scoring options stand over 6-foot-8 which undoubtedly helps against a Vandy team that has just one player standing over 6-foot-7 that averages over 20 minutes per game.

A huge key to this game will be free-throw shooting. Dayton ranks atop the A-10 in opponents’ free-throw attempts per game at just 11.5. Vandy ranks second in a competitive SEC in free-throw attempts per game.

Dayton’s ability to defend and not foul will be huge and a key reason why they should be able to keep this game close.

Over/Under

LEAN to the OVER 134.5 (-115).

Vandy has hit three straight Overs and should be able to get some home-court whistles.

Pippen Jr. is among the best scorers in the conference. The Commodores have scored 80 or more points in three of their last four outings and are 8-4 O/U as home favorites.

Dayton is 17-17 O/U this season and 3-1 O/U in its last four games.

NIT: Dayton at Toledo odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Tuesday’s Dayton at Toledo NIT odds and lines, with college basketball expert picks, predictions and best bets.

The Dayton Flyers (23-10) visit the Toledo Rockets (26-7) in a Wednesday NIT test at Savage Arena. The first-round game tips off at 7 p.m. ET. Below, we look at the Dayton at Toledo odds and lines, and make our expert college basketball picks, predictions and bets.

Dayton was a serious contender in the Atlantic 10 Conference, but the Flyers were ousted in the semifinals of the league tournament. That loss marked just the Flyers’ fourth since Jan. 6 – all four were away from home. UD is a solid shooting team and one that can defend in its own end. The Flyers tie it all together with good rebounding at both ends.

Toledo was the regular-season champ of the Mid-American Conference. Before losing to eventual tournament winner Akron in the MAC semifinals, Toledo had won six in a row and by a margin of 19.4 points per game. The fast-tempo Rockets averaged 84.7 points per game over that stretch.

Dayton at Toledo odds, lines, picks and predictions

Prediction

Dayton 71, Toledo 68

Money line

Both of these teams are young and may be playing well into the month of March the next couple years. But Dayton gets the edge in this I-75 battle.

The Flyers have much greater experience in the Quad 1-2 arena. UD has played 14 such games to UT’s six. Dayton has gone 8-6 in those games against better competition.

Dayton is a good shot-blocking team, and that figures to bother a Toledo five accustomed to getting a lot of points in and around the paint. Dayton is also a good 3-point shooting team that struggled from distance in the A-10 tourney. Look for some positive regression in that area.

Unfortunately for the Flyers, PG Malachi Smith is questionable. The freshman injured his ankle and exited in the second half of the Flyers’ A-10 semifinal loss to Richmond. The wheels fell off for UD after he left the game. As of Tuesday afternoon, Smith’s status was still in doubt. but the Flyers should still win this NIT opener.

TAKE DAYTON (+105).

Against the spread

PASS. This one sets up as a good money line-under combo.

Over/Under

The Under is 6-1 in the Rockets’ last seven home games. The Under is 3-1 across the Flyers’ last four true road games.

There is some in-state animosity between these two programs which have not met since 2009. Expect some high-energy defense with slow-down Dayton affecting the pace,

BANK ON THE UNDER 142.5 (-108).

Saint Louis at Dayton odds, picks and prediction

Previewing Friday’s Saint Louis Billikens at Dayton Flyers odds and lines, with college basketball picks, tips and predictions.

The Saint Louis Billikens (11-3 overall, 4-2 A-10) visit the Dayton Flyers (11-7, 7-6) Friday night for an Atlantic-10 Conference tilt. Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m. ET at UD Arena. Below, we analyze the Saint Louis-Dayton college basketball odds and lines, with picks and predictions.

No A-10 teams are ranked in the Ferris Mowers Coaches Poll powered by USA TODAY Sports. The Billikens sit fifth in the A-10, two-and-a-half games behind first-place VCU.

The Flyers, who were 29-2 overall and a perfect 18-0 in conference play last season before the NCAA COVID-19 shutdown, are in eighth place. Behind current New York Knicks PF Obi Toppin – the 2020 NBA Draft’s No. 8 overall pick – the Flyers were ranked No. 3 in the country and likely would have been a No. 1 seed in last season’s NCAA Tournament had it not been canceled.

Saint Louis at Dayton: Odds, spread and lines

Odds via BetMGM; access USA TODAY Sports’ betting odds for a full list. Lines last updated at 6:25 a.m. ET.

  • Money line: Saint Louis -275 (bet $275 to win $100) | Dayton +220 (bet $100 to win $220)
  • Against the spread/ATS: Saint Louis -5.5 (-120) | Dayton +5.5 (+100)
  • Over/Under: 136.5 (O: -110 | U: -110)

Saint Louis at Dayton: Three things to know

  1. Dayton, which was a 9-point underdog, won at Saint Louis 76-71 in the season’s first meeting between the A-10 rivals with senior G Jalen Crutcher scoring a game-high 27 points. The Flyers led wire-to-wire as the Billikens played their first game in 33 days following a COVID-19 pause.
  2. Saint Louis enters on a 4-game win streak, going 4-1 since the loss to Dayton. The Billikens are 3-1 ATS in the four wins, outscoring opponents by 16.8 points per game. They beat La Salle 78-57 Tuesday, covering the spread as 16-point home favorites. Senior G Javonte Perkins was the Billikens’ top scorer in five of their last six games and averages a team-best 17.9 PPG.
  3. Dayton suffered a heartbreaking 91-89 double-overtime loss at Rhode Island Tuesday. The Flyers covered the spread as 3-point underdogs but blew a 59-44 lead with 8:29 to go in regulation. On the bright side, freshman F Zimi Nwokeji scored a career-high 29 points. For the season, Crutcher leads UD in scoring (18.9 PPG) and assists (4.8 APG).

Saint Louis at Dayton: Odds, lines, predictions and picks

Prediction

Saint Louis 67, Dayton 65

Money line (ML)

PASS. Dayton (+220) is tempting. The Flyers have won the last six at home in this series. But this isn’t your typical “good” Dayton squad, and Saint Louis will be focused on avenging last month’s loss.

However, the Billikens’ -275 ML price is too high.

Play our new free daily Pick’em Challenge and win! Play now!

Against the spread (ATS)

DAYTON +5.5 (+100) is the STRONGEST PLAY – 1½ times your usual wager. While the Billikens are in a groove, riding a 4-game win streak, the Flyers get the nod with this being their Senior Night.

Seniors Crutcher, G Rodney Chatman, G Ibi Watson and C Jordy Tshimanga have meant so much to the UD program. It’s hard to imagine the Flyers not playing one of their best games of the season.

ATS: Saint Louis 9-5 | Dayton 10-8

Over/Under (O/U)

The UNDER 136.5 (-110) is the way to go. Saint Louis’ defense ranks 38th in the country, allowing 63.6 PPG. It has surrendered just 54.0 PPG in its last four games. The Flyers only score 69.3 PPG and yield 67.2 PPG.

Expect a low-scoring slugfest.

O/U records: Saint Louis 8-6 | Dayton 10-8
