David Tepper issues statement on drink-tossing incident

Panthers owner David Tepper released a statement regarding his “unacceptable conduct” from this past Sunday.

It took over 48 hours to address what happened at EverBank Stadium on New Year’s Eve, but we’ve finally heard from Carolina Panthers owner David Tepper.

On Tuesday, the NFL announced they have fined the billionaire chairman $300,000 for what for has been deemed as “unacceptable conduct” from the Week 17 outing. A video captured Tepper appearing to toss the contents of a cup towards Jacksonville Jaguars fans towards the end of the 26-0 loss.

The league issued the following statement:

All NFL personnel are expected to conduct themselves at all times in ways that respect our fans and favorably reflect on their team and the NFL.

Just about in unison, Tepper then put out a few words of his own:

I am deeply passionate about this team and regret my behavior on Sunday. I should have let NFL stadium security handle any issues that arose. I respect the NFL’s code of conduct and accept the League’s discipline for my behavior.

NFL fines David Tepper $300K for tossing drink at Jaguars fans

The NFL has fined Panthers owner David Tepper $300,000 for his “unacceptable conduct” in Jacksonville this past Sunday.

Carolina Panthers owner David Tepper had himself a pretty expensive drink on New Year’s Eve.

As announced on Tuesday evening, the NFL has fined Tepper $300,000 for his actions during this past weekend’s game at EverBank Stadium. The league has deemed his behavior from the outing as “unacceptable conduct” and issued the following statement:

All NFL personnel are expected to conduct themselves at all times in ways that respect our fans and favorably reflect on their team and the NFL.

Tepper, towards the end of his team’s 26-0 loss on Sunday, appeared to have angrily tossed the contents of a cup towards Jacksonville Jaguars fans. This is now the second public outburst of the season for the billionaire owner, who was also seen yelling an obscenity following the Panthers’ Week 12 loss to the Tennessee Titans.

Sunday’s defeat marked the first shutout for the Panthers in 21 years and helped clinched them the league’s worst record of the 2023 campaign.

4-Down Territory: Lamar MVP, Brad Allen needs to go, Eagles or Chiefs, Worst of the Week

In this week’s “4-Down Territory,” Doug Farrar and Kyle Madson discuss Lamar Jackson, Brad Allen, Eagles or Chiefs, and the Worst of the Week.

With 17 weeks of actual football in the books for the 2023 NFL season, it’s time once again for Doug Farrar of Touchdown Wire, and Kyle Madson of Niners Wire, to come to the table with their own unique brand of analysis in “4-Down Territory.”

This week, the guys have some serious questions to answer:

  1. Can anybody but Lamar Jackson be the NFL Most Valuable Player right now?
  2. It is time for the NFL to fire referee Brad Allen and his entire crew?
  3. If you had to take one of last year’s two Super Bowl teams — the Chiefs or the Eagles — which one would you be stuck with?
  4. And what was your Worst of the Week (non-officiating version)?

Former NFL TE Benjamin Watson on David Tepper: ‘The Carolinas deserve better’

Former NFL TE and Rock Hill HS alum Benjamin Watson believes David Tepper is burying the Panthers franchise.

Since we’re still waiting on a response from the Carolina Panthers and owner David Tepper in regards to Sunday’s . . . um . . . happenings, we’ll give you one from a pretty pertinent observer.

On Monday, former NFL tight end Benjamin Watson commented on the New Year’s Eve clip of Tepper appearing to angrily empty the contents of a cup towards the crowd at EverBank Stadium. And Watson, who attended Northwestern High School in Rock Hill, S.C. and spent a year of his college career at Duke University, believes his fellow Carolinians deserve better.

That incident occurred during Sunday’s 26-0 loss to the Jacksonville Jaguars, where the Panthers were shut out for the first time in 21 seasons. As of this writing, the organization has declined to comment on the video.

Watson also alludes to the failed Rock Hill project, which saw the team’s proposed (and somewhat built) $800 million headquarters and training camp facility go up in smoke. After a well-documented and drawn-out dispute about finances between the city, York County and the company representing Tepper, the final remnants of the site were demolished in July.

Panthers fans react to David Tepper’s drink-tossing video

Panthers fans react to David Tepper’s party foul on New Year’s Eve

The Carolina Panthers just experienced their most shameful Sunday of the 2023 season—and that’s saying something since they’ve had quite a bit of those.

On top of being shut out for the first time in 21 years and clinching the No. 1 overall pick for the Chicago Bears, the Panthers faced more embarrassment courtesy of owner David Tepper on New Year’s Eve. A video showed Tepper appearing to angrily dispose the contents of a cup towards the crowd at EverBank Stadium during the team’s 26-0 loss to the Jacksonville Jaguars.

And this, of course, got Panthers fans going to work on Twitter . . .

NFL, Panthers decline to comment on David Tepper video

As of Sunday night, mum is the word from the NFL and the Panthers in regards to the unflattering David Tepper video.

As expected, mum is the word right now from both the NFL and the Carolina Panthers in regard to David Tepper.

On Sunday afternoon, shortly after Carolina’s 26-0 loss to the Jacksonville Jaguars, a video of the billionaire owner unconventionally disposing of his beverage emerged on social media. The (big) problem was that Tepper appeared to dispose of it toward the crowd at EverBank Stadium . . .

The NFL was relatively quick in their response, telling reporters that they are aware of the video. They did not, however, provide any further comment.

That was at least a bit more than what the Panthers offered. Predictably enough, the team declined to comment.

Unfortunately for Tepper, this incident wasn’t his first publicly documented outburst of the season. Back in Week 12, after Carolina’s 17-10 loss to the Tennessee Titans, Tepper was seen angrily leaving the locker room, shaking his head before yelling out a particular four-letter profanity.

Less than 24 hours later, Tepper fired Frank Reich, putting a cap on the NFL’s shortest head-coaching run in nearly 50 years.

WATCH: David Tepper appears to throw drink at Jaguars fan

A video from Sunday’s loss caught Panthers owner David Tepper appearing to toss his drink at a Jaguars fan.

As if the season couldn’t get even more embarrassing for the Carolina Panthers, owner David Tepper decided to throw more fuel to fire . . . by seemingly throwing his beverage at an opposing fan.

Sunday’s disappointing 26-0 loss to the Jacksonville Jaguars was punctuated by a fourth-quarter interception off the hand of quarterback Bryce Young—who turned in one of his worst outings of the campaign. And, during what appears to be the immediate moments following the pick, Tepper put on one of the worst looks a billionaire owner of a professional sports franchise can put on . . .

Carolina’s defeat, which marked the first shutout for the franchise in 21 years, was headlined by a futile effort on offense. The unit amassed all of 124 total yards, converted on only one of their 13 third-down tries and moved the sticks for just seven first downs.

As the cherry on the top, the outcome helped officially clinch the Panthers the NFL’s worst record of the season. That, of course, also helped clinch the No. 1 overall pick of the 2024 draft for the Chicago Bears—whom received the selection from Carolina back in March.

So, obviously, Sunday was a particularly tough one for Tepper to swallow.

It sure looks like Panthers owner David Tepper threw a drink at Jaguars fans after a 26-0 loss

Tepper flung a drink from his luxury box and into the Jacksonville stands and, hooo buddy, it’s a bad look.

2023 has not been a good year for Carolina Panthers team owner David Tepper.

The billionaire hedge fund manager was hoping for his first winning season since purchasing the franchise in 2018. He traded away multiple first and second round picks, along with star wideout DJ Moore, for the right to select Bryce Young with the first overall pick of last spring’s draft. He hired Frank Reich as head coach in order to develop his prized young passer. And, despite a lack of depth, Tepper set his sights upon contention in a weak NFC South.

This is not what has happened. The Panthers have slumped to the NFL’s worst record. Reich was fired after flip-flopping on offensive play calling and subtlely hinting the coaching staff wanted to draft presumptive offensive rookie of the year CJ Stroud over Young, only to be overruled by Tepper. There’s no silver lining to being this bad, either; the Chicago Bears own Carolina’s first round pick — a pick that’s certain to be first overall after Sunday’s defeat to the Jacksonville Jaguars.

It’s a loss Tepper didn’t seem to handle well.

That’s Tepper, in a luxury box at EverBank Stadium, winging a drink through the open window and toward a crowd of Jaguars fans late in Sunday’s 26-0 loss. Regardless of his intention, it’s a bad look for an owner who has developed a reputation as an obstinate and hotheaded presence who clashes with his personnel when it comes to team matters. And, since it was caught on video, it quickly made Tepper a trending topic.

Panthers owner David Tepper throws drink at Jaguars fans as his team gets embarrassed

Carolina Panthers owner David Tepper was caught on video throwing his drink at Jacksonville Jaguars fans during an embarrassing loss.

Now that Daniel Snyder is mercifully no longer a part of the NFL, there has to be a most capricious and mercurial team owner in the league. Right now, that title would seem to go to Carolina Panthers owner David Tepper, who was not at all happy with the result of Sunday’s game. The Panthers were dragged by the Jacksonville Jaguars 26-0, the Chicago Bears chinched the No. 1 pick which the Panthers traded away for the right to select quarterback Bryce Young, and Young finished his Sunday with 19 completions in 32 attempts for 110 yards, no touchdowns, one interception, and a passer rating of 53.1.

Not that it’s all Young’s fault — the Panthers are a personnel disaster from start to finish, and somebody’s going to have to start fixing that in the offseason. But Tepper, who has fired three different coaches in-season during his five-year reign as owner, seems to be a tough guy to work for, based on some in the league who would know.

At one point in the Jaguars game, there’s video evidence of Tepper throwing his drink at Jaguars fans.

If that’s how Tepper acts in public, imagine how he is in private meetings.
