Penn State Class of 2023 snapshot: RB David Kency Jr.

Let’s take a quick profile look at Penn State preferred walk-on running back David Kency Jr.

The current running back situation at Penn State is full of potential. After a brilliant debut from [autotag]Nick Singleton[/autotag] and [autotag]Kaytron Allen[/autotag], two stars from the Class of 2022, the running game appears to be in great shape heading into the 2023 season. Despite losing Kaytron Allen to the transfer portal, Penn State’s depth at the running back position is boosted by the addition of [autotag]London Montgomery[/autotag] in the Class of 2023. But the Nittany Lions have also added a preferred walk-on from Louisiana with David Kercry Jr.

Kency didn’t garner much interest from schools across the country. But he ultimately made the decision to commit to James Franklin and the Nittany Lions.

Let’s take a more in-depth look at what running back David Kency Jr. brings to Penn State football.

Penn State’s 2023 football commitment tracker

The Penn State football Class of 2023 commitment tracker has been updated with the latest recruiting development

The Class of 2022 was great for Penn State, but it’s already time to turn the page toward the Class of 2023. And James Franklin and the Nittany Lions already had a few commitments on the board for the Class of 2023 as the signed letters of intent were coming in for the Class of 2022.

We’ll be keeping track of every commitment that goes on the board for Penn State in the Class of 2023. But knowing that odds are pretty good at least one player will have a change of heart somewhere along the recruiting process, we’ll keep tabs on what they are doing up until signing day.

This tracker will be updated accordingly when needed. It was last updated on February 1, 2023.

Penn State gets commitment for preferred walk-on from Louisiana speedster

Penn State picked up a new commitment for its Class of 2023 out of Louisiana.

Penn State is using the final days before the traditional signing period to put the finishing touches on its Class of 2023. With few spots remaining for a scholarship, Penn State looks forward to adding a preferred walk-on from Louisiana with a bit of speed.

On Monday, Louisiana running back [autotag]David Kency Jr.[/autotag] announced his commitment to Penn State with a message on Twitter. Kency’s commitment to the Nittany Lions comes following a weekend visit to the campus.

Kency measures 5′-9″ and 180 lb and rushed for 1,213 yards and 16 touchdowns for Archbishop Shaw High School on Marrero, La last season. Kency is rated as a two-star recruit according to his profile on Rivals. Penn State clearly sees him as a potential option, most likely on special teams to start to utilize his speed and burst. And, perhaps down the line, he could find a spot on offense to contribute.
