Sixers to sign undrafted Memphis guard David Jones to two-way deal

The Philadelphia 76ers will sign undrafted Memphis guard David Jones to a two-way deal.

The Philadelphia 76ers are not done adding young players to the roster just yet. After selecting Duke’s Jared McCain and UCLA’s Adem Bona in the 2024 draft, they signed undrafted Kentucky swingman Justin Edwards to a two-way deal.

Now, they have reportedly signed another.

Per Keith Pompey of The Philadelphia Inquirer, the Sixers will sign undrafted Memphis guard David Jones to a two-way deal. Jones averaged 21.8 points, 7.6 rebounds, and 1.8 assists along with 2.2 steals in the 2023-24 season. He also shot 38% from deep on 6.5 attempts per night. That type of 3-point percentage on that type of volume is what makes him attractive to this Sixers team coming out of college.

Jones will likely join Edwards, McCain, and Bona in the upcoming summer leagues. The Sixers will compete in the Salt Lake City and Las Vegas summer leagues.

For McCain and Bona, their spots are likely safe. When it comes to Edwards and Jones? They will have to prove themselves in order to earn their spots in the NBA.

Centre College head men’s golf coach David Jones, 36, passes away

Athletics Director Brad Fields said the legacy left behind by Jones is “worthy of celebration.”

The men’s golf team at Centre College is mourning the loss of its coach just days into the new season.

The Division III school located in Danville, Kentucky, announced that 36-year-old head coach David Jones passed away Tuesday evening, just two days after the Colonels finished fourth at the Transylvania Fall Invitational to start the 2022-23 season.

“My heart breaks this evening for our athletics department family, for the student-athletes that make up the men’s and women’s golf teams, and for all the people that were privileged to call him a colleague, a coach, and a friend,” said Centre College Athletics Director Brad Fields via a statement. “In the coming days, weeks, months, and years, we will work to honor David’s legacy, because it’s worthy of celebration.”

He is survived by his wife, Kotey, and three children Kinzley (6), Kevin (2) and Kyndall (three months).

Jones, a 2011 graduate of Western Kentucky University, took over the men’s golf program at Centre in 2019, but was briefly the interim head coach in the spring of 2016 after the departure of Bruce Brown. That semester the team finished fourth at the SAA Championship and won the Rhodes Spring Classic.
