Texas A&M has 2 of the highest rated offensive tackles in the state

Texas A&M right tackles Reuben Fatheree and Dametrious Crownover have been lights out this season

Texas A&M’s Week 5 showdown against the Arkansas Razorbacks takes center stage inside AT&T Stadium on Saturday afternoon, as the Southwest Classic will move to a new venue next season. For those who have been paying attention, Texas A&M has defeated the Razorbacks all but once since the 2012 campaign.

This season, both teams enter the game at 3-1 and 1-0 in SEC play while coming off close wins, especially the Aggies’ underwhelming Week 4 performance against a touch Bowling Green team. However, redshirt freshman quarterback Marcel Reed has continued to improve as Conner Weigman recovers from his shoulder injury.

Whoever starts at quarterback on Saturday, the Aggie offensive line must establish dominance in pass protection, as Arkansas’s top-15-ranked run defense could stifle the running game.

Starting left tackle Trey Zuhn has been the most dependable blocker this season. The right tackle position has been a two-man show between seniors Reuben Fatheree and Dametrious Crownover. According to Pro Football Focus, they are currently two of the highest-rated pass protectors in the state of Texas.

Fatheree, who returned from an injury that kept him inactive for most of the 2023 season, has allowed zero pressures, hurries, or sacks in 82 snaps at right tackle and is currently the highest-rated pass protector with an 83.3 grade and a 74.9 run blocking grade.

Crownover, who is equally massive and smooth with his feet, has logged 195 snaps at right tackle while allowing one hit and four quarterback hurries—the senior’s 65.5 pass protection grade is above average, while his 75.0 run blocking grade is one of the best on the team.

Fatheree deserves more snaps at right tackle if we’re strictly going by numbers. Still, given his injury history, it’s no surprise that head coach Mike Elko and O-line coach Adam Cushing are still rotating both players, which is an obvious advantage depth-wise.

Texas A&M will face Arkansas inside AT&T Stadium on Saturday, Sept. 28, at 2:30 p.m. CT. The game will air on ESPN.

Texas A&M’s Taurean York named Best Linebacker on DCTF All-Texas College Team

All- SEC linebacker Taurean York is named Best Linebacker on Dave Campbell’s All- Texas Team

It’s summertime so you know what that means. Baseball and early preseason All-football teams are starting to drop. Dave Campbell’s Texas Football (DCTF), the godfather of all things football in the Lone Star State, has announced their 2024 All-Texas College Team.

Sophomore Texas A&M linebacker Taurean York burst onto the scene during his freshman year, taking hold of the starting role early and becoming one of the leaders of the defense. At the end of his first year, York amassed 74 total tackles, 8.5 TFLs, and 3 sacks en route to the SEC All-Freshman Team.

DCTF named their top players at each position and York made the cut as the Best Linebacker for the All-Texas College Team. Naturally, that also placed him on the All-Texas First Team defense.

However, he was not the only Aggie to make the team. Offensive tackle Trey Zuhn III was named to the first team offense and wide receiver Noah Thomas made the second team. On the defensive side top transfer, Nic Scourton was named to the first team as a defensive end.

Aggies-Longhorns featured on cover of DCTF magazine

Conner Weigman joins Texas QB Quinn Ewers on the cover of Dave Campbell’s Texas Football

With the 2024 college football season less than three months away, one of the most important and entertaining rivals is back. The Lone Star Showdown between Texas A&M and the Texas Longhorns will resume after 13 seasons on Saturday, Nov. 30.

While the Longhorns are eyeing a return to the College Football Playoffs for the second year in a row, Texas A&M, under the guidance of new head coach Mike Elko, is not to be underestimated. Elko leads a talented and seasoned roster, spearheaded by redshirt sophomore quarterback Conner Weigman, and bolstered by one of the most formidable defensive line units in the nation.

As we all know, the quarterback position will make or break a team’s chances at success. With the rivalry back in action, Dave Campbell’s Texas Football revealed its cover with the season inching closer. It features Conner Weigman and Texas QB Quinn Ewers, who will (hopefully) face each other, barring any injuries down the stretch.

After missing the final eight games of the 2023 season, Weigman’s skillset is still undeniable. He possesses impressive accuracy, touch, and sneaky athleticism outside of the pocket. Despite starting just four games, he finished with 979 yards, eight touchdowns, and just two interceptions while completing nearly 70% of his passes.

Quinn Ewers appeared in 12 of the Longhorns’ 13 games due to a minor midseason injury. He threw for 3,479 yards, 22 touchdowns, and six interceptions while also completing nearly 70% of his passes. A favorite to win the Heisman Trophy in December, Ewers has all the tools to lead Texas to the Promise Land.

Texas’ DJ Campbell, Kelvin Banks Jr. ranked among top Texas OL

Dave Campbell’s Texas Football ranks two Texas offensive linemen in its Top 10 among Texas players.

The Texas offensive line is among the best in the country heading into the 2024 season. Those within the state are taking notice.

Dave Campbell’s Texas Football’s Mike Craven ranked the top offensive linemen within the state of Texas. Kelvin Banks Jr. took the top ranking while DJ Campbell ranked No. 6 in the state.

Craven went in detail on why Banks is the best at the position.

“The big man from Humble Summer Creek is a future Top 10 draft pick in 2025. He’s started every game in his college career (27) at left tackle for the Longhorns. He was a second-team all-Big 12 selection as a (freshman) and a first-team member as a (sophomore) in 2023. He was the best offensive lineman in Texas entering 2023 and that remains true in 2024.”

Texas transfer and current SMU offensive lineman Logan Parr made the list at No. 7 behind DJ Campbell.

Surprisingly, the list did not include Texas center Jake Majors the veteran who begins his fourth season as a starter in Austin. Nevertheless, it’s clear the Longhorns’ offensive line has the respect of many heading into the 2024 season.

4-star LB Kelvion Riggins will announce his commitment via DCTF YouTube on Friday

Riggins is 6-foot-1, 210 pounds, a future 2024 graduate of Forney High School in Texas and has 39 total offers but has yet to take a visit.

Dave Campbell’s Texas Football is hosting another live commitment special this week.

4-star inside linebacker Kelvion Riggins will be announcing his decision on the DCTF YouTube page on Friday at 6 p.m. CT. Riggins is 6-foot-1, 210 pounds and a future 2024 graduate of Forney High School in Texas.

Riggins has 39 total offers but has yet to take an official visit. He has trimmed his list of suitors to a top 10 which includes: Texas A&M, the University of Texas, Baylor, Florida, Georgia, Notre Dame, Michigan, The Ohio State University, Oklahoma and Tennessee.

Despite the Wolverines‘ status as the reigning national champion, they are now without a head coach. According to ESPN senior NFL insider Adam Schefter, Jim Harbaugh agreed to become the new leader of the Los Angeles Chargers on Wednesday night.

As a sophomore in 2022, Riggins was a Texas District 6-5A D-II first-team selection at defensive end. He is also a baller in the classroom with a 4.2 grade point average.

Dave Campbell’s Texas Football honors Aggies LB Taurean York

Dave Campells’ Texas Football has named Aggies freshman LB Taurean York All-Texas Defensive Freshman of the Year.

Texas A&M linebacker Taurean York has been named the Dave Campbell Texas Football All-Texas Defensive Freshman of the Year following his first regular season in College Station.

The Temple, Texas native is no stranger to earning accolades. As a freshman at Temple High School, York shared the Texas District 12-6A co-Defensive Newcomer of the Year award. He proceeded to earn the district’s Defensive MVP the following three seasons.

York is currently a semifinalist for the Shaun Alexander Freshman of the Year award.

“I’ll tell him he’s 18 going on 30,” former Aggies coach Jimbo Fisher said of York in August. “I say that from a standpoint of how he learns, how he acts, how he handles things, deals with things, makes calls, has a great understanding of the game of football and handles the maturity parts. He’s a very intelligent guy, a very well-rounded guy and has had a really good camp.”

York made an impact in his first game at Texas A&M, recording two tackles in a 52-10 win against New Mexico State. The following week, he led the defense versus Miami with a team-high seven tackles.

The freshman phenom tallied the most tackles for the Aggies in two other games this season. York had 11, including two for a loss of yards, during a 27-10 victory over Auburn. He had nine tackles and a forced fumble at Tennessee.

Texas A&M will take the field one last time in 2023 against Oklahoma State in the TaxAct Texas Bowl on Dec. 27 at NRG Stadium in Houston.

Aggies offensive line group ranked second-best in the state of Texas

With a handful of starters returning from 2022, Dave Campbell’s Texas Football recently labeled the Aggies O-line as the second best unit in the state of Texas.

Texas A&M Head Coach Jimbo Fisher proclaimed that the unit in the trenches would be the team’s strength in 2023, and at least one outlet is singing the same tune.

Dave Campbell’s Texas Football recently ranked the best offensive line groups in the state for the 2023 season, and the Maroon and White landed in second place within the Lone Star State. The top five played out as follows:

1. Texas Longhorns
2. Texas A&M Aggies
3. Baylor Bears
4. TCU Horned Frogs
5. Texas Tech Raiders

The following teams rounded out the best of the rest in the Lone Star State:

6. SMU Mustangs
7. UTSA Road Runners
8. Houston Cougars
9. North Texas Mean Green
10. UTEP Miners
11. Rice Owls
12. Texas State Bobcats
13. Sam Houston Bearkats

DCTF placed the Aggies just behind the Longhorns when it came to their recruiting prowess, although it’s been well-noted that few can compete with Texas A&M when it comes to recruiting in the trenches. With a unit that includes C Bryce Foster, OG Layden Robinson, OG Kam Dewberry, and OT Reuben Fatheree II, the key will be remaining healthy for the 2023 campaign according to Mike Craven:

No team in the Lone Star State outside of the Longhorns recruit the offensive line better than the Aggies. The interior of the offensive line should be stout, especially if Foster stays healthy. The Aggies were a different unit with him struggling with injuries and illness throughout 2022.

He’ll be flanked by two potential NFL players at guard in Robinson and Dewberry. The only real question marks are on the outside, but Fatheree was solid as a freshman two years ago and Zuhn has plenty of potential. Expect a step forward from this group in 2023.

The O-line boasts tremendous upside so long as they remain healthy, but let’s be clear in reiterating that the unit has their work cut out for them if they truly want to become elite. If you turn back the clock to 2022, you’ll recall that this group finished with a dull 50.0 pass-blocking grade per Pro Football Focus, while allowing an average of 2.3 sacks per contest.

Many of those hurdles were a result of injuries, but inexperience was also a key culprit. Having Foster back in the fold should provide a huge boon, as he looks to return to his freshman-year caliber of play when he led all true freshman centers with a 73.0 run-blocking grade per PFF. Added depth in the form of transfers Finn Dirstine and Derek Ferraro, as well as the arrival of incoming freshman Chase Bisontis, should help on the depth front.

With this group among the country’s leaders in returning production, the Aggies must see the experience and rapport within this group translate to strong production on the field. Only then can they stake the claim of being not only among the best in the Lone Star State but potentially in all of college football.

Eight Aggies named to Dave Campbell’s Preseason Football All-Texas Teams

Eight Aggies were named to Dave Campbell’s 2023 Preseason All-Texas teams, putting Texas A&M in a tie for the most selections overall within the Lone Star State.

As Texas A&M looks to build an emphatic bounce-back season in 2023, they’ll rely on a roster that boasts not only some of the best talent in the country but arguably within the state of Texas.

Each of the 13 FBS programs in the Lone Star State was well represented on Dave Campbell’s Texas Football 2023 Preseason All-Texas teams, unveiled on Wednesday. The Aggies boast eight additions, which puts the Maroon and White in a tie with Texas and national runner-up TCU for the most across the two teams.

Headlining the All-Texas First Team for Texas A&M are:

  • DL McKinnley Jackson
  • DB Demani Richardson
  • UTL Ainias Smith
  • WR Evan Stewart

Meanwhile, the All-Texas Second Team is comprised of the following Aggies:

  • DB Tyreek Chappell
  • OL Bryce Foster
  • TE Donovan Green
  • OL Layden Robinson

Upon a quick glance at the Aggies named to the DCTF 2023 All-Texas teams, one resounding theme stands out: Texas A&M boasts an ideal mix of experienced veterans alongside rising stars on this year’s roster. That combination should give the Maroon and White an edge to be a true dark-horse contender in the SEC.

Jackson, Richardson, Smith, Robinson, and Chappell bring multiple seasons’ worth of experience that will prove invaluable following Texas A&M’s “baptism by fire” campaign in 2022. And speaking of last year’s struggles, the addition of Stewart, Foster, and Green speaks to how the trials of a year ago will only fuel a likely breakout season come 2023.

The three pass catchers on the list should greatly benefit from Bobby Petrino at the helm of the offensive playbook, while the three linemen echo Jimbo Fisher’s belief that the strength of this Aggies team lies within the trenches. So long as Texas A&M puts together a successful campaign in the fall, it’s realisitc to expect additional names to join these eight in the future.
