Four-star linebacker shuts down recruitment after victory over Georgia

After the Alabama Crimson Tide defeated the Georgia Bulldogs on Saturday night, the program received some significant news on the recruiting front, as highly-touted linebacker prospect Darrell Johnson announced that he would be officially shutting down his recruitment.

Johnson was one of the numerous recruits who were in town for Alabama’s victory over Georgia on Saturday night, with the announcement coming on social media shortly after the conclusion of the game.

One of the top 2025 prospects from the state of Georgia, Johnson is a long-time Alabama commit who has been committed to the Crimson Tide since March of 2024.

Johnson, who attends Dodge County High School, is also the No. 7 overall player in the state of Georgia, as well as No. 34 nationally according to the 247Sports Composite Rankings. A highly-rated four-star prospect, Johnson is also ranked as the No. 4 overall linebacker in the class.

The four-star is the highest-ranked of four linebackers in Alabama’s 2025 recruiting class, one that ranks No. 2 overall nationally.

[autotag]Darrell Johnson[/autotag] is one of the best linebackers in the 2025 recruiting cycle and he will be taking his first-ever visit to Auburn this weekend. The Eastman, Georgia product spoke with Steve Wiltfong of 247Sports about the trip.

“I’m very excited to be at Auburn this weekend because it’s my first meeting with all the coaches and staff and catching a good vibe,” Johnson said.

Johnson is the No. 65 overall player and No. 9 linebacker in the 247Sports composite ranking. He is also the No. 11 player from Georgia.

He won’t be the only elite recruit visiting the Plains this weekend, the Tigers will be hosting several top targets, including four-star cornerback [autotag]Devin Williams[/autotag] and three-star offensive tackle [autotag]Mal Waldrep[/autotag].

Auburn has the No. 5 overall class in the 2025 cycle but the Tigers are still looking for their first linebacker commit.

Four-star recruit is returning to Gainesville on Saturday night

Four-star prospect will visit UF when the Gators host the Charlotte 49ers.

The Florida Gators will host a returning four-star recruit from the 2025 class on Saturday night when the Orange and Blue welcome the Charlotte 49ers.

Dodge County High School (Georgia) athlete [autotag]Darrell Johnson[/autotag] told On3 reporters that he’ll be in Gainesville for his third visit to UF, and he seems elated to interact with the coaching staff again.

“I just like the vibe from the staff, the love they give me, and how they treat me down there,” Johnson said. “I’m ready to come down for my first game of the season.”

Johnson made two official visits to Florida since being offered in June, enjoying the Grill in the Ville event in July and one time before that in March. Reports also say that Johnson has been in daily contact with the Gators since early August.

Johnson is rated ar four stars on both the On3 and 247Sports scales. He ranks at No. 50 in 247Sports top 200 and is the 4th overall among the “athlete” position.

The Florida Gators take on the Charlotte 49ers in Ben Hill Griffin Stadium. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. EDT and will stream on SEC Network+.

No. 1 2025 Georgia athlete discusses Tennessee offer, potential fall visit

No. 1 2025 Georgia athlete Darrell Johnson discusses being offered by Tennessee and a potential fall visit.

Tennessee offered 2025 four-star athlete Darrell Johnson on Sunday.

The 6-foot-3, 205-pound athlete is from Dodge County High School in Eastman, Georgia.

Johnson discussed his recruitment with Vols Wire.

“I really loved Tennessee’s facility and their coaches,” Johnson said. “I spoke with coach (Tim) Banks and coach Brian (Jean-Mary). We just met, but I think we’ll have a pretty good relationship.”

Johnson played quarterback, running back and defensive back last season at Dodge County.

He earned 2022 Georgia Region 1-AA Defensive Player of the Year and 2021 Offensive Freshman of the Year honors.

“The coaches told me I am an athlete and versatile player,” Johnson said. “They are learning towards me playing linebacker.”

Johnson is the No. 98 overall prospect and No. 10 athlete in the class of 2025. He ranks as the No. 1 athlete and No. 12 player in Georgia, according to On3.

Johnson made his first visit to Tennessee this weekend. He plans to make a return visit during the 2023 season.

“I do not have a set date, but I plan to visit Tennessee and come for a game this season,” he said.

The 2025 prospect also detailed his recruitment with a potential commitment timeline.

“I do not really have a certain order as far as my recruitment goes right now,” Johnson said. “I am planning on taking it slow as of right now, but I’m aiming for the middle to end of my junior year.”
