Aaron Rodgers emerges from ‘darkness retreat’; Raiders reportedly not interested in trade

The Raiders apparently have given Aaron Rodgers one fewer option to think about as he emerges from the darkness

Aaron Rodgers is going through his annual career decision-making process. You know, the one in which he has the Packers and every other team in the NFL that has a need at QB wondering whether he will retire or force a trade.

The difference this time is he decided to go on something called a “darkness retreat” or “isolation retreat.” Which, simply put, is going into a room for four days in total darkness and contemplating things.

Well, Rodgers has emerged from the darkness, supposedly enlightened from his days of sensory deprivation. The NFL world was eager to find out what epiphanies he has had. And, as usual, his only answers were that he will eventually have answers.

“For everybody involved directly and indirectly, it’s best for a decision earlier,” Rodgers said on the Aubrey Marcus Podcast.

“There’s a finality to the decision. I don’t make it lightly. I don’t want to drag anybody around. Look, I’m answering questions about it because I got asked about it. I’m talking about it because it’s important to me. If you don’t like it and you think it’s drama, you think I’m being a diva or whatever, then just tune it out. That’s fine. But this is my life. It’s important to me, and I’ll make a decision soon enough and we’ll go down that road and be really excited about it.”

As it happens, the team that was most connected to the possibility of acquiring Rodgers appears to have tuned out and removed themselves as a possible option in Rodgers’ decision-making, according to a report in The Athletic.

Both Raiders GM Dave Ziegler and head coach Josh McDaniels spoke at the NFL combine this week. McDaniels took to the podium at a press conference where he said at the very least that the Raiders would ultimately like to draft a young QB as the long-term answer.

“I think there’s always urgency at that position,” McDaniels said. “Look, the goal for us eventually is to have somebody that’s going to be here for a long time. You see the teams that are having success right now in our league, I would say in our conference, and specifically in our division, they’re young players that were drafted by their clubs and they’re being developed there under the same continuity.”

So, it would seem, barring some major shift in perhaps what the Packers would want in a trade and/or what Rodgers would accept as a salary, the Raiders appear to no longer be an option for Rodgers.

Aaron Rodgers going on a darkness retreat, explained

Do you have questions about Aaron Rodgers going on a darkness retreat?

Welcome to FTW Explains, a guide to catching up on and better understanding stuff going on in the world. Are you wondering about the darkness retreat that Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers recently completed? We’re here to help.

Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers’ darkness retreat has been the point of absolute fascination (and skepticism) for NFL fans this month.

With Rodgers reportedly using the intense meditation practice to help determine his NFL future, many have wondered just what exactly goes into one of these darkness retreats in the first place.

Now that he’s reportedly emerged from the darkness retreat, let’s dive into exactly what a darkness retreat is and Rodgers’ involvement in the process.

Tom Brady doesn’t want Aaron Rodgers to retire: ‘It’ll be a sad day for the league’

Do you agree with Tom Brady’s comments about Aaron Rodgers?

There will come a day when both Tom Brady and Aaron Rodgers are no longer playing in the NFL.

While Brady’s days as a starting quarterback appear to finally be over, he’s hoping Rodgers hangs in there a bit longer.

On his Let’s Go! podcast, Brady says that the level of quarterback play in the NFL is proof that it’s not time for Rodgers to close his illustrious career.

“You know what, I hope he doesn’t retire,” Brady said during the podcast (via USA Today). “I think the league needs good quarterbacks and he’s one of the greats. If he retires, it’ll be a sad day for the league. He’s an incredible player.”

Rodgers is going on a very peculiar darkness retreat to contemplate his future, which Brady also defended Rodgers taking.

“Everyone has their different processes they go through,” Brady said of Rodgers’ decision. “And you know what, I think we all need to get off our phone a little bit more. I think we all need to get away from the TV a little bit more. I think we all need a little more nature and a little more silence and a little more peace.

“However he’s going about it, good for him. Everyone’s got their unique way to process the season. It’s very intense for all of us, and everyone gets to choose what they want to do.”

Well, to each his own, as they say. Brady and Rodgers are two birds of a feather for a variety of reasons, and it seems like game respects game, no matter how strange or annoying that game is.

Aaron Rodgers might be filming his upcoming darkness retreat because of course he would

Aaron Rodgers is possibly filming his darkness retreat??

Aaron Rodgers might give us an inside look into whatever his upcoming darkness retreat is going to entail as he determines his NFL future.

During his weekly Tuesday segment on Pat McAfee’s talk show, the Green Bay Packers quarterback gave just a bit more insight into whatever his sojourn into the darkness is going to lead him to do. He will either return to Green Bay or head to a new team. Retirement is also possible.

Well, it looks like NFL fans might actually get to see what goes on with his darkness retreat as he is “possibly” going to be filming it for presumably some sort of documentary project.

Yes, Rodgers might be trying to make some sort of documentary about himself determining his future.

In what might be the most obnoxious career-changing process for an athlete since LeBron James’ “Decision” in 2010, Rodgers seems like he’s going to get every little bit of attention he can as he disappears into the black void of decision-making this week.

Although, as this NFL writer points out, wouldn’t filming what’s going on take away from the, y’know, darkness?

Leave it to Rodgers to leave us even more confused than we already were. I guess, if he ever releases the possible footage, we’ll see what he was really up to on the retreat.

Aaron Rodgers to go on 4-day ‘darkness retreat’ to decide NFL future

Whether Aaron Rodgers is a real option for Raiders will have to wait until after his 4-day ‘darkness retreat’

If you’re looking for an answer as to where Aaron Rodgers will be playing next season, you’re going to have to be patient. According to Rodgers, that answer will not come for at least a couple weeks. And only after Rodgers goes on what is called an isolation or darkness retreat.

“I’m still in the art of contemplation about my future,” said Rodgers said on the Pat McAfee show Tuesday.

“It’s going to be important to get through this week and then to take my isolation retreat and just to be able to contemplate all things my future and then make a decision that I feel like is best for me moving forward in the highest interest of my happiness and then move forward.”

“It’s a darkness retreat. I’ve had a number of friends who’ve done it and had some profound experiences. It’s something that’s been on my radar for a few years now and I felt like would be awesome to do regardless of where I was leaning after this season.”

So, what *is* a darkness retreat?

“It’s four nights of complete darkness,” Rodgers said.

“It’s a room. It’s a little house. There’s a two-way mirror and like a little slot where they’ll drop in some food for you, but it’s isolation and darkness. No music, no nothing.”

Rodgers added that he won’t be locked into this room. That anyone who can’t handle it can just walk out the door.

There will be a few teams that will be interested in what profound realizations Rodgers comes to when he does walk out that door. Among them figure to be the Raiders and Jets and, of course, the Packers.

His former teammate Davante Adams has been making his feelings on a reunion in Las Vegas well known. Adams has called it a “dream scenario” to have Rodgers throwing to him again.

With Derek Carr’s time with the Raiders coming to an end, the Raiders are very much in the market for a new quarterback. Should the 39-year-old Rodgers not only wish to continue his career, but be interested in moving out west to finish his career as a Raider, it would make sense for them to explore trade options.

For now, we await what future Rodgers envisions in the darkness.
