BATON ROUGE – The No. 6 ranked LSU women’s golf team made it a good day after one round Monday of the Darius Rucker Intercollegiate with a 1-under par 283 to stand in a tie for first with host South Carolina.

The tournament at the Long Cove Club in Hilton Head Island, South Carolina, which was being billed during the nationally televised coverage on the Golf Channel, as the best in women’s college golf, continues Tuesday with coverage beginning on the channel at 1:30 p.m. CT.

LSU and South Carolina are two shots clear of Auburn at 1-over 285 and it is six shots back to defending champion Wake Forest and Baylor in a tie for fourth at 7-over par 291.

LSU senior Ingrid Lindblad posted a 3-under par 68 in the opening round with four birdies to stand alone in second place, one shot behind leader Megan Schofill of Auburn who shot 4-under 67. Lindblad had three birdies on the opening nine holes and after a bogey at 10, hit her approach shot on the par-4 16th and dropped her birdie putt.

Freshman Edit Hertzman showed some real determination, fighting back from a double bogey and bogey in the first five holes that left her at 3-over par. In the next 13 holes she registered five birdies to turn things around and posted 2-under par 69, good for a tie for third place individually.

Junior Carla Tejedo rolled in a long birdie from just off the green on the 18th hole to finish at 1-over par 72 (T12) and senior Latanna Stone post a 3-over 74 to complete LSU’s scoring for the round.

On a day when the average score for the 90-player field was 75.32, LSU led the field on the par 3 holes, posting 2-under par for the team. LSU, just like in winning the Moon Golf Invitational, led the first-day scoring in birdies with 15.

LSU’s two Swedish members played among the best on the par 4 holes with Lindblad at 2-under par (T2 in the field) and Hertzman at 1-under (T4). Hertzman’s five birdies was second best in the round.

In all, a total of eight golfers broke par on the first day on the 6,220-yard layout.

The teams will keep the same pairings on the second day of the event, but LSU will tee off in the second wave off the back nine, again with South Carolina and Oregon, beginning at 9:10 a.m. Live scoring can be found at Golfstat.com and updates on Twitter @LSUWomensGolf.
