Fans pour love to Daniel Bard who starts the MLB season in IL due to anxiety

Twitter shows support for former Tar Heel Daniel Bard who is on the injury list for anxiety.

It was announced on opening day that closing pitcher [autotag]Daniel Bard[/autotag] would not partake in opening day. Instead, he would be on the injury list battling anxiety.

The former Tar Heel was stellar at UNC, finishing with a 23-12 record, with an ERA of 3.86 in 270 innings. His success at North Carolina led him to get drafted by the Boston Redsox in the first round of the 2006 MLB draft. However, after a brief stint in the minors, Bard would retire due to yips.

Seven years later, Bard returned to the mound after getting picked up by the Colorado Rockies. Again, he displayed his Tar Heel magic leading to significant recognition by being awarded NL Comeback Player of the Year and snagging the Tony Conigliaro Award.

Bard finished last season as one of the best closers the MLB had to offer, finishing third in the NL for saves (34), leading to a two-year 19 million dollar deal.

Bard has become a success story and a true inspiration to many. Fans thanked the Rockies for adequately handling such a vital topic and showed their love for Bard.

Let’s look at how Twitter supported the former Tar Heel.

Daniel Bard receives extension from Colorado Rockies

Former UNC baseball standout Daniel Bard was rewarded with an extension from the Colorado Rockies on Saturday.

With the MLB trade deadline looming, former UNC baseball reliever [autotag]Daniel Bard[/autotag]’s name has been a hot topic amongst rumors. The Rockies aren’t a team that is contending for a playoff spot and are sort of in a rebuilding phase.

So having a dominant reliever is valuable and that’s exactly what Bard is.

But on Saturday, just a few days before the deadline the Rockies made their decision on what to do with the talented reliever. And they are keeping him.

Per Mark Feinsand, Colorado has agreed to a two-year extension with Bard worth $19M. That’s a bold decision that tells me the Rockies feel like they are ready to contend within the next few seasons.

I’m happy for Bard as gets rewarded for his season and his comeback to the big leagues. But I also was hoping that he would be traded to a contender and have a pivotal role in a playoff push.

In 37 games this year, Bard is 3-3 and has posted a 1.91 with 21 saves. He was snubbed of an All-Star appearance but is rewarded with this extension.

Report: Multiple teams interested in former UNC pitcher Daniel Bard

Former UNC baseball pitcher Daniel Bard is a hot name as the MLB trade deadline approaches, with multiple teams reported to be interested.

Former UNC baseball player [autotag]Daniel Bard[/autotag] is in the midst of a terrific season for the Colorado Rockies and could be an interesting name around the MLB trade deadline.

With the trade deadline approaching on Aug. 2, multiple teams are reported to have interest in the 37-year-old pitcher.

Bard joined the Rockies back in 2017 after a short retirement and has now blossomed into great form. Bard has 21 saves and a career-best 1.91 era this season in 37 appearances.

He has spent the past three years with the Rockies and has seen basically half of his saves over that span come this year.

Bard was selected in the first round of the 2006 MLB draft by the Boston Red Sox. While Bard didn’t make the NL All-Star roster this year, he is clearly someone that teams recognize as a potential asset as the playoff push begins for numerous organizations.

With just a few days before the deadline, this is one Tar Heel to follow.

Former Diamond Heel Daniel Bard having breakout year for Rockies

Former Diamond Heel Daniel Bard is having a breakout year with the Colorado Rockies, as the public discusses a potential All-Star bid.

In 2017 [autotag]Daniel Bard[/autotag] retired from the mound, joining the Arizona Diamondbacks as a franchise player mentor. Five years later, the former Tar Heel finds himself having another solid season after securing his 20th save of the season for the Colorado Rockies.

Bard joined the Rockies back in 2017 after a short retirement period…what would follow is the ultimate comeback story. Bard spent 2,646 days off the major league mound, and now the 37-year-old has redefined the pitch that got him drafted in the first round of the 2006 MLB draft by the Boston Red Sox.

This season Bard has 20 saves and 42 strikeouts with an ERA of 2.02.

While Bard did not crack the NL All-Star team this year, his season is still one worth noting. And he could be a valuable piece at the trade deadline for a contender as well.

Bard is a free agent at the end of the year and while the Rockies have said they don’t have immediate plans to trade him, getting some valuable pieces back while allowing Bard to pitch for a contender would make sense.

He’s a name to watch at the deadline here in a few weeks.
