Three-star LB D’Angelo Barber commits to Auburn

Barber is the No. 25 player from the state of Alabama according to 247Sports’ 2024 composite rankings.

Many people across the nation enjoyed a fireworks show on Tuesday, even Auburn head coach [autotag]Hugh Freeze[/autotag].

Prior to nightfall on Independence Day, Freeze received the great news that [autotag]D’Angelo Barber[/autotag], a three-star linebacker from Clay-Chalkville High School in metro Birmingham, announced that he would be committing to Auburn.

Barber did not announce publically that he had set a date to commit. However, he told Danny West of HawgSports in June that his decision would be “coming soon” following a visit to Arkansas. On Tuesday, he chose the Tigers over Arkansas and Ole Miss.

Auburn hopes that more dominoes fall following Barber’s commitment. Barber and three of his teammates from Clay-Chalkville are listed in the state of Alabama’s top 25 prospect rankings for the 2024 cycle. One of his teammates, four-star wide receiver [autotag]Mario Craver[/autotag], is one of Auburn’s top targets for the cycle.

Barber tells Christian Clemente of AuburnUndercover that the family atmosphere was a big reason for his commitment, but the bond he has built with linebackers coach Josh Aldridge is what set Auburn apart from the other two schools.

“But from the jump when they offered me, me and Coach Aldridge, we quickly started to build a relationship,” Barber said in an interview with AuburnUndercover. “We started texting every day, hop on the phone and not even talking about football, just talking and building a real, genuine relationship.”

Barber becomes Auburn’s ninth commitment for the 2024 cycle. The Tigers are now No. 48 in 247Sports 2024 recruiting rankings.

Auburn is a finalist for LB D’Angelo Barber

He will be deciding between three SEC schools.

‘Auburn has been on a roll with landing in-state players recently and another big target is nearing a commitment.

Three-star linebacker [autotag]D’Angelo Barber[/autotag] officially visited Arkansas over the weekend and revealed that “a final decision is probably going to come sometime soon,” he told Danny West of HawgSports.  The Pinson, Alabama product added that it is down to Auburn, Arkansas and Ole Miss.

Barber is the No. 487 overall player and No. 46 linebacker in the 247Sports Composite ranking. He is also the No. 25 player from Alabama.

He has visited Auburn three times this year but has not yet taken an official visit. His only other official visit was to Georgia Tech, which appears to be falling out of the race.

Auburn has received both crystal balls to land the 6-foot, 221-pounder but after he had a “great time” in Fayetteville, the Razorbacks can’t be counted out.

Auburn receives crystal ball prediction for in-state linebacker

One of the state’s top linebackers from the 2024 cycle continues to trend towards Auburn.

One of the top programs in the state of Alabama heading into the 2023 season is Clay-Chalkville.

The metro-Birmingham school has four players that currently rank in the top 25 of the state’s top 2024 prospects according to 247Sports, and Auburn may be close to landing one of them.

[autotag]D’Angelo Barber[/autotag], the nation’s No. 44 linebacker and the state of Alabama’s No. 25 overall prospect for the 2024 cycle is trending toward Auburn. Christian Clemente of 247Sports recently gave Auburn a crystal ball prediction to earn Barber’s commitment, which brings the Tigers to two total predictions for Barber.

Barber recently competed in Auburn’s 7v7 tournament and told Clemente that he will announce his commitment at the end of this month. Where does Auburn stand personally?

“Auburn’s got the lead,” Barber said in an interview with Auburn Undercover. “(Arkansas) still in the mix. But it’s hard to go against Auburn. I can honestly say I haven’t been to a place yet that felt more like home than here.”

According to 247Sports, Barber will officially visit Georgia Tech and Arkansas this month before making his decision. The Razorbacks appear to be Auburn’s top competition at the moment, as former Tiger and current Arkansas defensive coordinator [autotag]Travis Williams[/autotag] is working hard to snag Barber out of Auburn’s grasp.

Auburn is also in the running for several of Barber’s high school teammates. Wide receiver Mario Craver included Auburn in his top 10 list while the Tigers are looking to flip the state’s top player, Jaylen Mbakwe, from Alabama.

Recruiting Profile: 2024 linebacker D’Angelo Barber

Taking a look at the recent offer of 2024 linebacker D’Angelo Barber.

Over the last few weeks, the Oklahoma Sooners have sent out a number of offers across the next few recruiting cycles. One of those recent offers went out to 2024 linebacker [autotag]D’Angelo Barber[/autotag].

Barber, out of Pinson, Ala., is a prospect starting to gain traction among Power Five programs.

Parker Thune of OUInsider at 247Sports spoke with Barber after he received his Oklahoma offer. It’s a fantastic read and here’s what Thune had to say about the under-evaluated linebacker prospect.

Though he hasn’t yet received a ranking in the 247Sports Composite, Barber won’t fly under the radar for much longer, as January brought a wave of Power 5 offers for the hard-hitting defender. He picked up an offer from Alabama midway through the month, and Auburn, Georgia Tech, Arkansas and Ole Miss soon followed suit. However, the most recent Power 5 school to throw its hat in the ring was Oklahoma, and Barber says it’s a thrill to have earned the attention of linebacker guru Brent Venables. – Thune, OUInsider at 247Sports

As Thune mentioned, he hasn’t been ranked yet, but with teams like Alabama, Auburn, Arkansas, Ole Miss, and Oklahoma in pursuit, it won’t be long until he receives a proper evaluation.

Barber is a patient player at middle linebacker, but once he makes his read, he’s quick in pursuit. Barber plays fast, getting downhill in a hurry to disrupt the opposition’s running game. He plays much bigger than his listed size on 247Sports at 6-foot, 205 pounds.
