Report: Bucs to hold 2nd OC interview with Bengals’ Dan Pitcher

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers are bringing in Cincinnati Bengals quarterbacks coach Dan Pitcher for a second interview

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers’ search for a new offensive coordinator continues, as they look to replace the recently departed Byron Leftwich after a disappointing season on that side of the ball.

One candidate getting a second interview is Cincinnati Bengals quarterbacks coach Dan Pitcher, per NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo.

Pitcher had a virtual interview with the Bucs last month, but will not get an in-person visit with Tampa Bay’s brass regarding the top offensive position on their coaching staff.

The Bucs have interviewed a long list of candidates for the job, but are still looking for the right fit for a unit that just lost their quarterback after Tom Brady’s retirement.

Bengals extend QB coach Dan Pitcher after interest from Bucs, Ravens

The Bengals aren’t letting a vital part of the coaching staff get away.

The Cincinnati Bengals didn’t take long to lock down quarterbacks coach Dan Pitcher.

Word broke earlier this week that the Tampa Bay Buccaneers interviewed Pitcher for their offensive coordinator opening.

But according to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, this and interest from the Baltimore Ravens resulted in the Bengals giving Pitcher a rare in-season extension:

“Sources say Dan Pitcher, the Bengals quarterbacks coach since 2020, received a lucrative contract extension within the past week after several teams wanted to speak with him about offensive coordinator openings. Cincinnati was proactive, attempting to lock Pitcher in for another season rather than have him leave for a coordinator opening.”

Pitcher has been with the Bengals since 2016 and is likely next in line were offensive coordinator Brian Callahan to land a head-coaching gig. Callahan interviewed with the Colts for that job this postseason.

Besides that, it speaks to Pitcher’s role in the offense and with Joe Burrow that the organization went out of its way to retain him before their season even ended. At least for now, it appears the bulk of Cincinnati’s coaching staff will stay put.

Bengals QB coach Dan Pitcher had OC interview with Buccaneers

Another Bengals assistant getting interest from other teams.

Cincinnati Bengals coaching assistants aren’t getting as much attention as anticipated this offseason as other teams look to make key hires.

But quarterbacks coach Dan Pitcher has officially entered the fray courtesy of an offensive coordinator interview with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Pitcher, 36, has been instrumental in the development of Joe Burrow. He originally joined the coaching staff in 2016 as an assistant before fully taking over the quarterbacks coach role in 2020.

He joins current Bengals offensive coordinator Brian Callahan as the notable assistant to get looks from other teams so far, as Callahan interviewed with the Indianapolis Colts for their vacant head coach position.

Update: The Bengals quickly gave Pitcher a contract extension after interest from the Bucs and Ravens.

Bucs interview Bengals QB coach Dan Pitcher for offensive coordinator job

The Bucs have completed a virtual interview with Bengals quarterbacks coach Dan Pitcher for their offensive coordinator position

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers’ list of candidates for their vacant offensive coordinator position continues to grow.

The latest to throw his hat in the ring is Cincinnati Bengals quarterbacks coach Dan Pitcher, completing a virtual interview with the Bucs on Friday, the team announced.

Pitcher’s work with MVP candidate Joe Burrow has clearly made him a hot name for a promotion elsewhere in the league, as the Bucs look to replace Byron Leftwich as the top offensive assistant on their staff.

The Bucs are also set to interview New York Giants quarterbacks coach Shea Tierney, and have already completed interviews with Minnesota Vikings wide receivers coach Keenan McCardell, Jacksonville Jaguars passing game coordinator Jim Bob Cooter, and Denver Broncos passing game coordinator Klint Kubiak.
