Chandler Parsons on agent Dan Fegan negotiating with Rockets: ‘Instead of making 920K I got bumped to a max and we got Dwight Howard’

Chandler Parsons on getting a max contract: I was a second round pick. I had a four year deal, but the fourth year was a team option. And at this point, I’m starting. I’m averaging 17 points a game, like, I’m going! And my agent said they were going to pick up the fourth year. Why wouldn’t they? You’re owed like 920 grand or whatever, and it was just a huge bargain for them. I ended up hiring Dan Fegan, rest in peace. The only reason I did it is because he said ‘I can get you out of that fourth year’. He went to the GM and he went to the owner and said, ‘I’ll get you Dwight Howard, but you’re not picking up Chandler Parsons’ contract.’ So instead of making 920K I got bumped to a max and we got Dwight Howard. It was the most gangster move I’ve ever seen. It was nuts! They said ‘agents get you paid, Dan Fegan got you overpaid.’

What’s the buzz on Twitter?

Obviously with Dwight out, the Lakers were going to stay small tonight. Sixth time this starting lineup has played together, which is more than any Lakers starting lineup this year. pic.twitter.com/ZX9o50dA1C10:02 PM

Without Dwight Howard, and LeBron still a question mark, chances are Wenyen Gabriel will see more minutes, with LAL having few frontcourt options.
Vogel: “He has a compelling skillset. Very athletic and long, and can make plays defensively … he (can also) shoot the three.” – 8:49 PM
Eric Koreen @ekoreen
LeBron James is a “true gametime decision” according to Frank Vogel. No Dwight. – 8:46 PM

No Dwight Howard tonight, as you likely know by now, due to a family emergency. He hopes to rejoin the Lakers on their upcoming four-game trip which starts Wednesday in Minnesota. – 8:42 PM

Dwight Howard will be inactive tonight because of a “family emergency,” per the Lakers. Howard hopes to rejoin the team on their upcoming four-game road trip, per a Lakers spokesman. – 8:41 PM

The Lakers’ defensive issues are to some degree baked into the cake, particularly when it comes to giving up size. But the Lakers can’t have a lineup with Dwight and Bradley, but without LeBron or Russ to orchestrate offense. Disaster waiting to happen. AK – 10:06 PM

I wrote about Dwight Powell getting hit in the face. All the time.
He’s top 6 in shooting % for regular rotation players, but does he also lead the NBA in facial fouls?
The Mavs say yes — and so does DP’s middle right incisor tooth. dallasnews.com/sports/maveric…2:40 PM

More on this storyline

Chandler Parsons: I was on my rookie deal and I was a restricted free agent. So this was actually when we brought Dwight and we did the deal. Basically Mark Cuban came in and he gave me a crazy max deal with a no-trade clause, a player option in the last year… As a restricted free agent, you kind of have to do that to get the team not to match. At the time I loved playing with James Harden, I loved playing with Kevin McHale and Dwight and I just thought you know what? Dallas… Dirk Nowitzki is my favorite player of all time. They got Monta Ellis. Everyone who plays with Rick Carlisle with this crazy offense, pick and roll, threes… as a shooter I couldn’t think of a better offense and I accepted the offer and Houston didn’t match. It was awesome. I love Dallas. -via Apple Podcasts / March 15, 2022
Chandler Parsons on signing max deal with Memphis Grizzlies: I was all in on Portland. I was like, we can cancel the Memphis offer, I’m going to Portland and play with Damian Lillard and CJ McCollum… this is great. Then JB Bickerstaff and David Fizdale, who are my family, they had just gotten the head coaching job at Memphis and I said let’s just take the meeting. And also they had Marc Gasol, Mike Conley, Zach Randolph… They had a squad too. So we’re at Dan Fegan’s house in the Memphis meeting. And I see Fegan is getting red and kind of getting weird. Then five minutes later he says ‘hey, let’s take a break’. We’ll meet back up in five, and he’s like ‘CP come here’. I go to his room with him and he’s like ‘you’re going to Memphis’. And I’m like, what do you mean? And he goes ‘Portland is going to give you a physical and because of Greg Oden and Brandon Roy’s injury history, you might not pass. Trust me, if you do that and they red-flag you you’re taking a minimum deal and you’re smoked out that 95 million’. I was on Zillow looking at houses in Portland! Then I go back in there and I… Oscar performance [laughs] I go back in there… ‘Listen guys, I’ve never been more sure about something in my life. Grit and grind till the day I die [laughs]. I’m in!’ That was just another damn Fegan crazy story. That was nuts. This man did it again. -via Apple Podcasts / March 15, 2022

Karl, who last coached in the NBA in …

Karl, who last coached in the NBA in 2016 with Sacramento, talked about his time with the Kings, the state of the NBA, the country and more. He was as candid about his time with the King, as he was on a recent podcast discussing his 112-game stint as coach, which started with the final 30 games of the 2014-15 season. He had no idea the wackiness he was stepping into when he accepted the job. There were already rumblings there would be conflict before Karl arrived, because late-agent Dan Fegan, a known Karl antagonist, represented Kings star DeMarcus Cousins. Fegan had clashed with the Kings’ front office over its treatment of Cousins and how it was going to best help Cousins win. Fegan didn’t believe hiring Karl would work. Fegan’s business partner, Jarinn Akana, was on Denver’s coaching staff when Karl was hired in 2005. Karl did not keep Akana on staff. That relationship was said to be the reason Karl was not hired sooner. When contacted, Cousins declined to comment.

In the Trousdale section of Beverly Hills, the home of late basketball agent and attorney Dan Fegan has found a buyer at $8.825 million, public records show. Fegan, who died two years ago at 56, represented such NBA superstars as Dwight Howard, John Wall and Amar’e Stoudemire. His single-story home, built in 1968 and since updated, has four bedrooms and 3.5 bathrooms in about 4,600 square feet.
