Cowboys working out 4x-Pro Bowl RB coming off down season

Report: Cowboys to fly running back Calvin Cook to Dallas for a workout.

After signing wideout CeeDee Lamb to a massive extension, it appears as if Dallas has now shifted focus to the running back position. Sources tell NFL insider Tom Pelissero that the Cowboys will be flying free-agent running back and four-time Pro Bowler Dalvin Cook to Dallas for a workout.

Flirtations with Cook are nothing new but the team is extending their dance to a face-to-face meeting.

The Vikings selected Cook in the second round of the 2017 NFL draft out of Florida State. He failed to reach 1,000 combined rushing yards in his first two seasons, but broke out in his third year en route to four consecutive millenium campaigns.

He was named to the Pro Bowl four times, each season between 2019 and 2022.

After his release from Minnesota in 2023, Cook signed with the New York Jets in the middle of August but failed to find his footing and was released by the team in early January. The veteran back tallied 214 yards on 67 carries averaging 3.2 yards per rush.

Less than a week later, Baltimore signed Cook to their practice squad to help with their playoff push.

Cook dealt with a shoulder injury in 2023 but looks to be healed from the injury that may have impacted him last season. Something must give in the running back room if Dallas signs the veteran.

Ezekiel Elliott was brought back to Dallas after a one-year hiatus in New England. The team also employs RB Rico Dowdle, who figures to be the back who shoulders the heaviest of the load in the rotation. Second-year backs Hunter Luepke and Deuce Vaughn are among the favorites to land a roster spot but the addition of Cook could complicate his situation.

Dallas could also choose to add Cook after the season begins to avoid guaranteeing his salary for the entire 2024 season.

After sitting out free agency, Dallas has been very active adding players in the last few weeks. Cook would be another big name added to owner Jerry Jones’ “All In” offseason.

Report: Cowboys monitoring Panthers RB Miles Sanders

According to ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler, the Cowboys have their eyes on Panthers RB Miles Sanders.

Could Miles Sanders be heading back to the NFC East?

According to ESPN senior NFL reporter Jeremy Fowler, the Carolina Panthers running back may be of interest to the Dallas Cowboys—who still seem to be sorting out their backfield. Fowler, after recently visiting the reigning division champions at training camp, wrote the following of their situation:

The Cowboys know they face questions at running back after losing Tony Pollard to a bigger contract in Tennessee. They will monitor the Ezekiel Elliott-Rico Dowdle-Royce Freeman experience, while keeping a short list of external options, just in case. Carolina’s Miles Sanders is on that list. And Dalvin Cook has shown interest in playing for Dallas. As it stands, Elliott is slated as the starter, but the Cowboys will manage his snaps. They need Dowdle to stay healthy; McCarthy likes what he has shown in camp. And the team really likes Freeman’s tape from the Rams last season and believes he can be an impact RB2/RB3 option — a banger in small doses.

After spending his first four NFL seasons as a member the Philadelphia Eagles, Sanders signed a four-year, $25.4 million deal with the Panthers in the spring of 2023. He’d go on to experience his worst campaign as a pro—hitting lows in starts (five), attempts (129) and rushing yards (432) while averaging 3.3 yards per carry.

The 27-year-old could be a third wheel in Carolina upon the clearance of rookie Jonathon Brooks, whom the team selected with the 46th overall of the 2024 draft. Sanders is currently listed behind starter Chuba Hubbard on the unofficial depth chart.

Former Vikings RB Dalvin Cook ‘getting ready for what’s coming up next’

Former Minnesota Vikings Dalvin Cook is still looking for a team to spend the 2024 season with and is staying ready.

Former Minnesota Vikings running back Dalvin Cook is still looking for a team to spend the 2024 season with. Cook remains a free agent after playing one game with the Baltimore Ravens during last season’s playoffs.

When speaking to Aaron Wilson of KPRC, the former Viking said he was “getting ready for training camp, getting ready for what’s coming up next. For me, like you said, patience is the key. Right now the only thing I’m really focusing on is getting myself in tip-top shape to really tote the rock come the fall.”

He also said he has been “taking calls” from teams. After getting limited action in 16 total games last season with the Jets and Ravens, Cook is taking his time getting ready.

Last season, he didn’t sign with the Jets until September, so he has shown he is more than OK waiting for an opportunity he feels fits him best.

The NFL should simply hand the MVP award over to Baltimore Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson after his AFC divisional-round performance.

Tied 10-10 with the Houston Texans at halftime, the Ravens led an emphatic 24-0 scoring run in the 2nd half.  Jackson finished with a total of four touchdowns: two rushing and two passing.

The Ravens controlled the tempo of the game, winning the time of possession 37:35 to 22:25. In the third quarter, the Ravens capped off a 12-play, 93-yard drive to go ahead 24-10 in thrilling fashion.

Jackson seemed unbothered by the Texans’ blitzes, as he completed 16 of his 22 pass attempts with precision. His leadership created an aura of poise as Jackson connected with eight different receivers and rushed for 100 yards on 11 carries.

The Ravens will host the AFC Championship Game at M&T Bank Stadium next Sunday against the winner of the divisional-round game between the Buffalo Bills and Kansas City Chiefs.

Dalvin Cook is ‘ready to give it all’ he has for the playoffs

Dalvin Cook is ‘ready to give it all’ he has for the playoffs

The Baltimore Ravens eagerly await their playoff debut against the Houston Texans this Saturday after sitting out Super Wild Card Weekend.

The Ravens have a bevy of offensive skill players ready to attack defenses this postseason, including tight end Mark Andrews, who may return to action for the first time this weekend after suffering a seemingly season-ending leg injury in Week 11.

One player who has yet to take a snap for Baltimore but may end up playing a role for them in the playoffs is running back Dalvin Cook.

The Ravens signed the veteran back to the practice squad after the New York Jets released him before the final week of the regular season. Now, before their first playoff game, Baltimore has added Cook to the active roster.

When speaking with the media on Thursday, Cook was asked if he was ready for a significant workload if he was called on.

“Yes. It’s the playoffs, man,” Cook said. “You have to … I’m dialed up. I’m ready to give it all I have – everything I have in the tank. It’s the playoffs, man.”

Gus Edwards and Justice Hill have been the two mainstays in a running back room that has seen season-ending injuries to J.K. Dobbins and Keaton Mitchell this season. Cook is hopeful he can contribute alongside Edwards and Hill.

“They call 31’s number, I’m going to be out there,” Cook said. “I’m going to be on the field. I’m ready to make a play, but for me though, honestly, Gus [Edwards and] Justice [Hill], they put the work in all year. You have to credit those guys, so whatever my role is, whatever they call upon me [to do], they’ll get a thousand percent out of Dalvin.”

The Ravens will be hoping to get a better version of the Pro Bowl running back than the one that only posted 214 rushing yards on 67 carries for the Jets this season.

Dalvin Cook to make his Ravens debut in divisional round matchup vs. Texans

Ravens head coach John Harbaugh said RB Dalvin Cook “will be out there” on Saturday for divisional round matchup vs. Texans

After waiving Melvin Gordon III, the Ravens have signed Dalvin Cook to one of their three available roster spots ahead of Saturday’s divisional-round matchup.

Baltimore gave Cook two weeks to ramp up his conditioning after the New York Jets waived the four-time Pro Bowl running back before Week 18.

Ahead of the final practice of the week head coach John Harbaugh confirmed that Cook will play against the Texans.

The 28-year-old Cook had four straight 1,000-yard seasons with the Vikings (2019-22) but was used sparingly by the Jets this year before being released.

Cook logged 214 yards on 67 carries with the Jets this season, appearing in 15 games.

Melvin Gordon’s fumble against the Steelers in the Week 18 season finale will be his final carry with the team this season after being waived on Wednesday.

Baltimore moved on from Gordon III after signing Dalvin Cook before the regular season finale against Pittsburgh.

Cook will have a chance to go from signing with the Ravens practice squad two weeks ago to becoming an impact running back in the postseason.

Baltimore’s current backs — Gus Edwards, Melvin Gordon III, and Justice Hill — have not created big plays, combining to average 4 yards per carry over the past seven games.

The Ravens signed Cook to the practice squad on Jan. 4 after he went unclaimed on waivers.

The New York Jets cut Cook after 15 games in which he had career lows in carries (67), rushing yards (214) and touchdowns (0).

On Monday, the Ravens placed cornerback Pepe Williams (ankle) on injured reserve and wide receiver Laquon Treadwell was released.
