Avonte Maddox on Dallas Goedert still buying dinner after signing huge contract extension

Eagles’ Avonte Maddox says Dallas Goedert is still buying dinner after both roommates sign new deals

The Eagles created an interesting scenario this week when they signed both Avonte Maddox and Dallas Goedert to contract extension.

A likely first in professional sports contract history, Goedert and Maddox have actually been roommates since being drafted in the 2018 class, and now they’re both rich enough to purchase individual mansions if they choose.

Goedert signed his deal first, and upon hearing the numbers, Maddox joked that Goedert would be paying for dinners in the foreseeable future.

After signing his own new contract, Maddox again joked that Goedert still has to pay for Dinner since his contract is for almost $27 million more.

Both players are competing at an elite level and the Eagles franchise is the true winner after locking up two core pieces.

Howie Roseman on whether the Eagles will be sellers after trading Zach Ertz

GM Howie Roseman on whether the Eagles will be sellers after trading Zach Ertz to the Cardinals

The Eagles traded tight end, Zach Ertz, to the Cardinals on Friday and the deal appears to have more with a change in offensive philosophy than it does contracts, or the Eagles tanking on the 2021 season.

During a Friday press conference, Roseman said it had become “pretty clear” going forward that Philadelphia’s offensive approach made it impossible to have” both Ertz and Dallas Goedert at tight end and that the Cardinals’ offer of rookie cornerback Tay Gowan and a draft pick was an “opportunity” for the Eagles to get better.

“I don’t view us as being sellers,” Roseman said. “I view us as still having an opportunity in the next 11 games to show what kind of team we are. And I think this was more about the opportunity to really put the pieces of the puzzle together for this team at that position and kind of moving forward. It’s not to give up on the season in any way, shape or form. I’m certainly not thinking about anything going south. But we’re thinking about the opportunity we have in front of us, starting with Vegas next week. And I know that will be a huge travel game for our fans and after we get through this weekend, we’ll be excited for that opportunity.”

Roseman reiterated that the Eagles haven’t tanked on the season despite a 2-4 start, and it’ll interesting to see what else pops up as the trade deadline approaches.

How Mark Andrews’ 4-year, $56M deal with the Ravens impacts Eagles TE Dallas Goedert

How Mark Andrews’ 4-year, $56M deal with the Ravens impacts Eagles TE Dallas Goedert

Dallas Goedert is entering the final year of his deal and he’s due to be an unrestricted free agent in 2022. Contract talks between the talented tight end and the Eagles have broken down and thanks to Mark Andrews, the price may have just gone up.

Ian Rapoport of NFL.com is reporting that Andrews and the Ravens just agreed on a new four-year, $56 million contract extension.

ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler is reporting that Andrews will get $37.6 million in guaranteed money, with $26.6 million to be paid by March 2022.

Drafted after Goedert in the 2018 NFL Draft (86th overall), Andrews has logged 156 catches for 2,105 yards, and 20 touchdowns, with one Pro Bowl nomination.

Goedert (49th overall) has logged 137 catches for 1,465 yards and 12 touchdowns over the first three years of his career, and the expectation was that he could command $12 million per season.

Goedert hasn’t been an elite tight end, but neither has Jonnu Smith or Hunter Henry, and both were paid well this offseason by the New England Patriots. The Eagles’ tight end won’t get Travis Kelce or George Kittle money, but he’s just as valuable as Smith and Henry potential-wise.

While Goedert is not a playmaker on the level of Kelce and Kittle, he should be in line for a huge deal next offseason.

Before Andrews’ deal with Baltimore, we projected that Goedert could be in line for a four-year, $52 million contract with the Eagles, with the tight end getting around $30 million in fully guaranteed salary.

Per Over The Cap, that number would be put Goedert at $13 million per season, right behind Andrews and Kelce for the highest average per year.

Logan Thomas’ new deal with Washington bodes well for Dallas Goedert landing a huge contract extension

Logan Thomas’ new deal ensures Dallas Goedert will get $10M+ per season

Logan Thomas’ fairytale career ascension should help provide huge dividends for Eagles star tight end Dallas Goedert, who’s looking to cash in on a new deal himself.

A former quarterback at Virginia Tech, Thomas has made the transition to the tight end position look seamless and Washington reward their star pass-catcher with a three-year, $24 million extension with $10.3 million guaranteed, NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo reported.

Last season Thomas caught 72 passes for 670 yards and six touchdowns, numbers Goedert should equal if not surpass as the No. 1 tight end in Shane Steichen’s offense with Philadelphia.

Goedert is also heading into the final year of his rookie deal and stands to land in the top-five highest-paid tight ends.

A solid contributor over the past three seasons, the former South Dakota State star has 137 receptions, 1,465 yards receiving, and 12 touchdowns in 42 career games.

Goedert hasn’t been an elite tight end, but neither has Jonnu Smith or Hunter Henry, and both were paid well this offseason by the New England Patriots. While Goedert is not a playmaker on the level of Kelce and Kittle, he could be in line for a huge deal next offseason.

It’s expected that Goedert will bet on himself and play the season out, but the young tight end could be in line for a four-year, $52 million contract with the Eagles, with the tight end getting around $30 million in fully guaranteed salary.
