Brandon Jenkins replaces COVID-positive Dakota Bush at UFC Fight Night 192 vs. Zhu Rong

COVID-19 has impacted Saturday’s UFC event.

UFC Fight Night 192 has been hit with a change caused by COVID-19.

Lightweight [autotag]Dakota Bush[/autotag], who was set to compete in his second promotional bout Saturday at the UFC Apex in Las Vegas vs. [autotag]Zhu Rong[/autotag], has tested positive for the virus and is out of the fight. Stepping in his place will be [autotag]Brandon Jenkins[/autotag], a fighter coming off a brutal flying knee knockout last month at 2021 PFL Playoffs 3.

Two people with knowledge of the matchup confirmed the booking to MMA Junkie but asked to remain anonymous as the promotion has yet to make an official announcement.

Jenkins (15-7 MMA, 0-0 UFC) enters his UFC debut on a three-fight winning streak, which includes the aforementioned knockout of UFC alum Jacob Kilburn, as well as a violent spinning back elbow KO against Jordan Hinman in November.

The youngest fighter on the UFC roster, Rong (17-4 MMA, 0-1 UFC) enters the fight coming off an unsuccessful promotional debut. At UFC 261 in April, Rong lost a unanimous decision to Kazula Vargas. The defeat snapped a 10-fight winning streak for the 21-year-old.

LFA 98 results: Josh Fremd earns middleweight title shot with massive knockout

Josh Fremd punched his ticket to an LFA middleweight title fight with a highlight-reel knockout in the main event of LFA 98 on Friday.

[autotag]Josh Fremd[/autotag] is the first man to advance to the finals of the LFA middleweight tournament.

Fremd (7-1) scored a brutal first-round knockout of [autotag]Bruno Oliveira[/autotag] (7-3) in Friday’s LFA 98 headliner, solidifying his spot in the championship round of the four-man grand prix.

LFA 98 took place at Hartman Arena in Park City, Kan. The entire card streams on UFC Fight Pass.

Fremd wasted no time locking up Oliveira with a trip takedown and planting him on his back inside the first 30 seconds of the fight. The Brazilian stayed patient, and climbed back to his feet to break away into striking range.

The pair threw some blows back-and-forth, but then Fremd found his desired target. Fremd scored with a clean left hook that instantly rocked and dropped Oliveira. Fremd pounced with a few hammerfists on the ground, and the referee dove in to halt the action.

An ecstatic, who trains out of Factory X in Colorado, reveled in the biggest victory of his career.

“This is the biggest win of my career,” Fremd said in his post-fight interview with Alan Jouban. “You don’t know my striking, you don’t know my boxing. I’ve always had (power), I just haven’t shown it.”

Fremd now moves on to an opportunity to fight for the vacant LFA middleweight title later this year. He will fight the winner of Anthony Adams (8-2) and Gregory Rodrigues (7-3), who will meet in the other semifinal bout at LFA 100 on Feb. 19.

“Both of those guys that are in that fight,” Fremd said. “I look forward to fighting either one of them. No preference.”

LFA 92 results: Askar Askar beats Kevin Wirth in one-sided main event

Askar Askar successfully rebounded from his first career loss with a dominant performance against Kevin Wirth in the LFA 92 main event.

[autotag]Askar Askar[/autotag] successfully rebounded from his first career loss with a dominant performance against [autotag]Kevin Wirth[/autotag] in Friday’s LFA 92 main event.

Askar (11-1) used a mixed arsenal of offense to overwhelm Wirth (8-2) over the course of three rounds in the bantamweight headliner, which took place at Hartman Arena in Park City, Kan. The final scores from the judges were 30-27, 30-27 and 29-28.

Askar shot for an early takedown that was unsuccessful. After that, he quickly found his range and began to pick Wirth apart. He landed a number of clean punches before a right hand dropped worth to his butt. Askar jumped on top and started to chip away at his opponent on the mat. He couldn’t get the finish, and eventually Wirth recovered enough to get back to his feet.

The pressure continued from Askar on his feet until he overcommitted on a punch that led him into a takedown from Wirth. Askar immediately attacked with an armbar, though, that he used to scramble back up to his feet. Wirth did his best to work behind the jab , but he wasn’t able to land anything to sway an obvious first round away from Askar.

The pressure continued from Askar to begin the second frame. He landed good striking combinations before completing a takedown roughly 30 seconds in. Askar burned a few minutes off the clock working from inside the guard, but then Wirth got himself upright. A cut opened up around Wirth’s left eye, but he reacted well and landed his best punch of the fight with a counter left hand. He couldn’t get Askar off his rhythm, though, and it was another clear round.

With the edge on the scorecards, Askar came to close the fight out strong. He stuck to his game plan of walking forward and mixing up his punches and kicks, while Wirth looked to find an opening to turn the tide of the contest. Askar put an exclamation point on it with just over three minutes remaining, though, picking his opponent up and slamming him to the canvas then riding out the clock to seal the fight in his favor.

“I need more time in the cage,” Askar said in his post-fight interview with Pat Miletich. “Obviously with this COVID thing it’s been putting everyone’s career on hold, so I hope I can get back in the cage soon. Obviously being in the gym is great, but you need to be in that cage.”
