Panthers officially sign UFL WR Daewood Davis

The Panthers’ addition of UFL standout Daewood Davis is now official.

A signing that was nearly two weeks in the making is now official.

As announced on Tuesday, the Carolina Panthers have signed wide receiver Daewood Davis. The 25-year-old played for the United Football League’s Memphis Showboats during their 2024 campaign.

Before hitting the pros in 2023, the Broward County, Fla. native split his collegiate career between the University of Oregon and Western Kentucky University. He’d shine in his two years for the Hilltoppers, reeling in 106 receptions for 1,625 yards and 15 touchdowns between 2021 and 2022.

Davis then signed with the Miami Dolphins after going undrafted in 2023. He was later waived with an injury settlement during the team’s roster cutdown in August.

The Showboats would sign the 6-foot-2, 195-pounder a few months after his release from Miami. He’d go on to record the seventh-most receiving yards (446) and second-most receiving touchdowns (five) in the league, earning a spot on the inaugural All-UFL Team.

With Davis now onboard, Carolina’s roster now sits at a round 90 players.

Panthers reportedly expected to sign standout UFL WR

The Panthers are reportedly set to sign a member of the inaugural All-UFL Team.

The Carolina Panthers may finally be filling that empty spot on their current roster.

According to NFL Network insider Ian Rapoport, the team is expected to sign wide receiver Daewood Davis. The 25-year-old pass catcher is fresh off spending the 2024 United Football League season with the Memphis Showboats.

A Broward County, Fla. native, Davis split his collegiate career between the University of Oregon (2017 to 2020) and Western Kentucky University (2021 to 2022). He’d shine in his two seasons for the Hilltoppers, reeling in 106 receptions for 1,625 yards and 15 touchdowns.

Davis proceeded to sign with the Miami Dolphins after going undrafted in 2023. He was later waived with an injury settlement during the team’s roster cutdown in August.

The UFL’s Showboats came calling in October, signing the 6-foot-2, 195-pounder a few months after his release from Miami. He’d go on to amass the seventh-most receiving yards (446) and second-most receiving touchdowns (five) in the league, earning a spot on the inaugural All-UFL Team.

Jaguars-Dolphins preseason game ends early after Daewood Davis injury

An injury suffered by Dolphins WR Daewood Davis led to the Jaguars’ preseason finale ending early.

The Jacksonville Jaguars and Miami Dolphins called a stop to their preseason finale with 8:32 left in the fourth quarter Saturday night due to an injury suffered by Dolphins receiver Daewood Davis.

Davis, an undrafted rookie who signed with the Dolphins after the 2023 NFL draft, was hit by two players after attempting to make a catch. The receiver was left face down on the turf and was eventually carted off the field.

Following the injury, Jaguars coach Doug Pederson and Dolphins coach Mike McDaniel met near midfield with the referee and were eventually joined by a pair of team captains. After a lengthy discussion, the official announced that the teams agreed to conclude the game without playing the final eight minutes.

“As a head coach you start looking at your team, you start looking at your team, you start looking at body language and kind of where guys are mentally,” Pederson said after the game. “After the amount of time that had passed, then Mike [McDaniel] and I got together and talked about suspending the game, just from where it was.

“We had to get our player reps involved, obviously [the NFL offices in] New York involved, and it was the right thing to do at that time. This game is all about player safety. I know it’s a preseason game and some guys are fighting for spots and all of that, but at the same time, we want to make sure that everybody is 100 percent.”

Miami offered an update on Davis shortly after the rest of the game was cancelled.

The Jaguars won the game 31-18 to finish their preseason with an undefeated record.
