6 members of Vic Fangio’s old coaching staff have landed with NFL teams

Ed Donatell, Curtis Modkins and Chris Kuper are among the former members of Vic Fangio’s coaching staff who have landed new jobs.

By our unofficial count, the Denver Broncos parted ways with 14 members of Vic Fangio‘s coaching staff in addition to Fangio himself.

At the time of this writing, six of those coaches have landed gigs with other NFL teams.

Ed Donatell has accepted a defensive coordinator position with the Minnesota Vikings, assuming the same role he held in Denver.

Minnesota also hired ex-Broncos running backs coach Curtis Modkins (same role) and ex-Denver assistant offensive line coach Chris Kuper as their new OL coach. The Vikings also poached quality control coach Justin Rascati from the Broncos’ staff, giving him a promotion as an assistant OL coach.

Ex-Denver special teams coordinator Tom McMahon was hired by the Las Vegas Raiders as their new STC. Former Broncos assistant ST coach Chris Gould was hired by the Los Angeles Chargers to fill the same position he held in Denver.

Elsewhere in L.A., former Broncos assistant coach Chris Beake has joined the Los Angeles Rams as their new linebackers coach.

Perhaps the most notable former members of Fangio’s staff still available are offensive line coach Mike Munchak and offensive coordinator Pat Shurmur. Munchak and Shurmur both have head coach experience in the NFL.

As for Fangio, he is expected to take a year off from coaching.

Curtis Modkins favoring joining Vikings as new RB coach

The Vikings might have their new running backs coach.

The Minnesota Vikings might have found their next running backs coach, and it’ll be a familiar face for soon-to-be head coach Kevin O’Connell.

Per 9News’ Mike Klis, the Denver Broncos RB coach Curtis Modkins is “leaning toward joining the Vikings.”

“Per source: Broncos RB coach Curtis Modkins leaning toward joining the Vikings as their RB coach/run-game coordinator. Modkins did great work with Phillip Lindsay and Melvin Gordon/JaVonte Williams the past four years in Denver,” Klis posted on social media.

There’s similar change happening right now in Denver with Nathaniel Hackett taking over the head coaching job and likely bringing in his own staff.

Modkins makes sense for the Vikings considering he worked with O’Connell during his time with the San Francisco 49ers in 2016. Vikings general manager Kwesi Adofo-Mensah was also with the team during that time.

So there’s a common theme unfolding with these hires having at least some connection with one another. That would essentially mean Kennedy Polamalu is on the outs for the Vikings.

It’s important to note that Denver had the 12th-ranked rushing offense in the league under Modkins’ watch with the team averaging 119.1 rushing yards per game this season.

It would be interesting to see what he could do with a talented offensive backfield featuring the likes of three-time Pro Bowler Dalvin Cook and Alexander Mattison.

Eagles interviewing Chargers OC Shane Steichen for offensive coordinator job

Eagles interviewing Chargers OC Shane Steichen for the offensive coordinator job

The Eagles are interviewing one of the top young coaches in the NFL, as Chargers offensive coordinator Shane Steichen could have a place on Nick Sirianni’s staff in Philadelphia.

The guy that some people say is really responsible for Herbert’s explosion in Los Angeles could be a person of interest for Carson Wentz.

Steichen was the Chargers quarterbacks coach before taking over the offense and was on the staff with Sirianni as well.

As the Eagles continue to build a staff around head coach Nick Sirianni, some names are starting to trickle down for perspective jobs.

Mike Klis is reporting that Broncos running backs coach, Curtis Modkins, is interviewing for the Eagles vacant offensive coordinator job.

Modkins has spent 13 seasons in the NFL as a coach and he was the Bills, offensive coordinator, for three years and spent another 3 seasons calling plays for Chip Kelly when he took the Niners head coaching job.

Denver Broncos RB coach Curtis Modkins tests positive for COVID-19

Denver Broncos assistant coach Curtis Modkins has tested positive for COVID-19.

If there were a game that seems like it isn’t meant to happen, it is Sunday’s Denver Broncos-New England Patriots contest.

The Patriots saw Cam Newton and Stephon Gilmore tested positive for the coronavirus already in recent weeks. Another Patriot was reported to have tested positive late this week.

And, Saturday comes news Denver Broncos RB coach Curtis Modkins has tested positive for COVID-19.

Apparently, however, the show must go on …
