Chicago Cubs at Chicago White Sox odds, picks and best bets

Previewing Sunday’s Chicago Cubs at Chicago White Sox sports betting odds and lines, with MLB betting picks, tips and best bets.

The Chicago Cubs (33-26) and Chicago White Sox (35-24) wrap up their three-game series Sunday on the South Side at 3:10 p.m. ET.  Below, we analyze the Cubs-White Sox MLB betting odds and lines, with picks and best bets.

Saturday: The Sox snapped a six-game losing skid and evened the weekend series with a 9-5 victory – beating my small Cubs money line play and my Under suggestion.

Season series: Cubs lead 3-2.

Playoff picture: The Cubs won the NL Central and will host a best-of-three, NL Wild Card Series.

The White Sox already clinched a playoff berth, but trail the Minnesota Twins (36-23) by a game in the AL Central. If they finish tied after Sunday’s regular-season finales, the Sox will win the title based on a better division record. They split their head-to-head regular-season series 5-5, which is the first tiebreaker.

Cubs at White Sox: Projected starting pitchers

RHP Adbert Alzolay vs. RHP Reynaldo Lopez

Alzolay is 0-1 with a 3.31 ERA (16 1/3 IP, 6 ER) in 3 starts and 2 relief appearances.

  • Last outing: 4 IP, 1 ER, 2 H, 2 BB, 7 K in 4 relief innings at Pittsburgh Pirates Tuesday – Cubs lost 3-2
  • Career vs. White Sox: 0 appearances

Prediction

White Sox 10, Cubs 6

Money line (ML)

The WHITE SOX (-134) are the STRONGEST PLAY. The Cubs (+120) really have nothing to play for except Crosstown bragging rights as they’re locked into the NL playoffs’ No. 3 seed.

The White Sox do have something to play for as they need a win and a Twins loss to claim the AL Central crown.

New to sports betting? Every winning $1.34 bet on the White Sox ML will profit $1. Every $1 bet on the Cubs profits $1.20 if they prevail. Strongest plays should be 1.5 times your usual wager.

Run line/Against the spread (ATS)

AVOID. The Sox (-1.5, +145) own the best RL record in baseball at 37-22. However, with the possibility of the Twins beating the Reds quick or jumping out to a big lead – first pitch also at 3:10 p.m. ET – the Sox could throw in the towel and call off the dogs vs. the Cubs (+1.5, -175). I’ll PASS.

Over/Under (O/U)

The OVER 10 (-110) is worth a small play – which should be half your usual wager. I rode and lost the Under in the first 2 games of this series. Let’s try the OVER this time as things could get wacky with reserves playing a major role in the second half of this game.

Chicago Cubs at Chicago White Sox odds, picks and best bets

Previewing Saturday’s Chicago Cubs at Chicago White Sox sports betting odds and lines, with MLB betting picks, tips and best bets.

The Chicago Cubs (33-25) and Chicago White Sox (34-24) continue their weekend series Saturday at Guaranteed Rate Field at 7:10 p.m. ET.  Below, we analyze the Cubs-White Sox MLB betting odds and lines, with picks and best bets.

Friday: The Cubs cruised to a 10-0 victory, winning our STRONG PLAY, but losing our Under play. They snapped a three-game skid, while the White Sox dropped a sixth in a row.

Season series: Tied 2-2.

Playoff picture: Both Chicago teams have clinched berths. However, with two games remaining for each, both are hoping to win their respective divisions.

The Cubs’ magic number to win the NL Central is 1. The White Sox trail the first-place Minnesota Twins (35-23) by 1 game in the AL Central.

Cubs at White Sox: Projected starting pitchers

LHP Jon Lester vs. RHP Dane Dunning

Lester is 3-2 with a 4.40 ERA (57 1/3 IP, 28 ER) in 11 starts this season.

  • Last start: Win, 6 IP, 0 ER, 4 H, 1 BB, 1 K at Pittsburgh Pirates Monday – Cubs won 5-0
  • 2020 vs. White Sox: 0-1, 19.64 ERA (3 2/3 IP, 8 ER) in 1 Wrigley Field start
  • Career vs. Sox: 11-7, 4.48 ERA (124 2/3 IP, 62 ER) in 20 starts
  • Cubs career vs. Sox: 5-2, 4.69 ERA (40 1/3 IP, 21 ER) in 7 starts

Dunning is 2-0 with a 3.19 ERA (31 IP, 11 ER) in 6 starts. The rookie, who debuted Aug. 19, has never faced the Cubs before.

  • Last start: No-decision, 4 IP, 4 ER, 6 H, 1 BB, 5 K at Cleveland Indians Monday – White Sox lost 7-4
  • Last 3 starts: 2-0, 2.65 ERA (17 IP, 5 ER)
  • 2020 at home: 1-0, 2.20 ERA (16 1/3 IP, 4 ER) in 3 starts

Prediction

Cubs 4, White Sox 3

Money line (ML)

I’d like to think the White Sox (-143) come out fired up after Friday’s beatdown, but the CUBS’ +130 price is too good a value to pass up. Lester has been a stud lately, allowing just 2 ER in his last 3 starts (17 IP). He’s also 3-0 with a 1.89 ERA (33 1/3 IP, 7 ER) in 6 road starts this season.

But it’s just a suggested small play – half your usual wager – since the White Sox are 5-1 in Dunning’s 6 starts. Plus, they blasted Lester for 8 ERs, including 4 HRs, in a 10-1 rout at Wrigley Aug. 21.

New to sports betting? Every winning $1 bet on the Cubs ML will profit $1.30. Every $1.43 bet on the White Sox profits $1 if they prevail.

Run line/Against the spread (ATS)

AVOID. The White Sox (-1.5, +135) own the best RL record in baseball at 36-22, but they’re 4-6 vs. the RL in their last 10. The Cubs (+1.5, -162) are 3-7 vs. the RL in their last 10.

Over/Under (O/U)

The UNDER 9 (-110) is the play. The Sox have scored just 27 runs in their past 10 games, an average of 2.7 RPG. Before the Cubs put up Friday’s 10 spot, they scored just 2.1 RPG in their last nine outings.

Thursday: The Cubs lost 7-0 at the Pittsburgh Pirates for a third straight loss. The White Sox dropped their fifth in a row with a 5-4 setback, getting swept in four at the Cleveland Indians.

Season series: White Sox lead 2-1.

Playoff picture: With three games remaining for each, both clubs have clinched playoff spots.

The White Sox trail the Minnesota Twins (35-22) by 1 game for first place in the AL Central. The Cubs are in first in the NL Central, 2½ games ahead of the lead the St. Louis Cardinals (28-26).

Cubs at White Sox: Projected starting pitchers

RHP Yu Darvish vs. RHP Dylan Cease

Darvish is 7-3 with a 2.22 ERA (69 IP, 17 ER) in 11 starts this season.

  • Last start: Loss, 6 IP, 4 ER, 9 H, 1 BB, 9 K vs. Minnesota Twins Sunday – Cubs lost 4-0
  • Last 3 starts: 0-2, 4.26 ERA (19 IP, 9 ER) after going 7-1 in first 8 starts

Prediction

Cubs 4, White Sox 3

Money line (ML)

The CUBS (-154) are the STRONGEST PLAY with Darvish on the mound. The Cy Young candidate came through when the White Sox were going for a three-game sweep at Wrigley Field in late August. With the Sox taking the first two of that series, Darvish held the Pale Hose to one run over seven innings and struck out 10 in a 2-1 Cubs win. Expect Darvish to step up again Friday.

New to sports betting? Every winning $1.54 bet on the Cubs ML will profit $1. Every $1 bet on the White Sox (+135) profits $1.35 if they prevail. (Strongest plays should be 1.5 times your usual bet).

Run line/Against the spread (ATS)

AVOID since both Chicago teams are struggling. The Cubs (-1.5, -100) are 2-7 vs. the RL in their last nine games. Sure, the White Sox (+1.5, -121) have the best RL record in the majors at 36-21, and they’re 16-11 at home. But I’ll PASS.

Over/Under (O/U)

The UNDER 8 (-110) is the way to go. Both clubs are in major scoring funks. The Sox averaged 3.0 runs per game in their last nine games, while the Cubs averaged 2.1 RPG in their last nine.
