Bucs to wear ‘creamsicle’ uniforms vs. Falcons in Week 8

The Buccaneers will wear their 70s ‘creamsicle’ uniforms when they host the Falcons in Week 8

The NFC South is going back to its roots this season. The Atlanta Falcons are set to wear their throwback uniforms with the old-school red helmets when they host the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in Week 5.

On Tuesday, the Buccanneers decided to return the favor, announcing the return of the “Spirit of ’79” creamsicle jerseys for their Week 8 matchup against the Falcons. While some fans love Tampa Bay’s throwback orange-and-white uniform combo, others negatively associate the jerseys with the poor Bucs teams of the past.

The NFC South hasn’t been the most exciting division in recent years, so maybe these throwback uniforms will liven things up a bit. The Buccaneers have won three straight NFC South championships while the Falcons haven’t taken home a division title since their Super Bowl run in 2016.

Tampa Bay and Atlanta split their season series in 2023. After signing quarterback Kirk Cousins, the Falcons are expected to make a serious push for the division this season. However, Baker Mayfield and the Bucs may not be willing to hand over the reins so easily.

After years of underachievement, the 2024 season is setting up to be a fun one for the Falcons.

Creamsicle uniforms to return on Oct. 15 vs. Lions

The Bucs will bring back their creamsicle uniforms against a former NFC Central rival.

It was known that the Bucs’ famed creamsicle uniforms would make a return. On Monday, the team announced exactly when Tampa Bay fans can expect them to hit the field.

The Bucs will officially wear their creamsicle throwback uniforms against the Detroit Lions in Week 6 on Oct. 15. The Lions are a fitting choice, as Detroit used to be divisional rivals with the Bucs when the two played together in the NFC Central.

While the “Bucco Bruce” logo has made an appearance on sideline apparel for a bit Tampa Bay last wore its actual throwback uniforms from 2009-12, where it played four games and won just one of them in that stretch. The only game it did win was against another former NFC Central rival, the Green Bay Packers, so perhaps that will bode well when the Bucs don them for their Week 6 game against Detroit.

The team also announced that Raymond James Stadium would be “transformed” to look more like Tampa Bay’s first home, Tampa Stadium, with “retro field stencils, stadium bunting and video board assets.”

WATCH: Bucs tease return of creamsicle uniforms for 2023

The iconic “Bucco Bruce” is coming back to Tampa Bay next season.

It’s been years since “Bucco Bruce” has been on a Tampa Bay Buccaneers helmet, but that’s about to change in 2023.

The Bucs teased on social media that the “creamsicle” uniforms the team wore from 1976 to 1996 will return as a throwback uniform for the 2023 season. The team hasn’t worn the orange-and-white look since 2012.

Fans of the team from the creamsicle era may have mixed feelings about the uniform’s resurgence. The Bucs have been far better in red and pewter than orange and white, as the team’s best result with its original uniform was an NFC Championship appearance in 1979 — the Doug Williams-led Tampa Bay team lost 9-0 to the Los Angeles Rams. On top of that, the team went 1-3 in the stretch it wore the throwbacks from 2009-12, winning its first game in the uniforms against the Packers and losing subsequent games against the Falcons, Panthers and Saints.

The only player on the team’s roster that has worn the creamsicles in LB Lavonte David, who did so in 2012.

Me enferma.
