Cowboys Wire Podcast: El Cheapo free agency, McCarthy flubs and facts

Kellen + McCarthy, Version 1.2. Filene’s basement and Burlington Coat Factory. Draft trades made and potential. Jerry doesn’t trust the staff. NC-17 revenue.

The Dallas Cowboys are five-and-diming free agency. They want to get back in to the Lombardi Club, but security isn’t going to let them in unless they are dressed for the occasion, yet here we are in another season when they are shopping at Filene’s basement instead of the high-end stores we know they can afford.

What strategy do they have to employ in the draft to fix this? What did Friday’s trades do to the Cowboys’ possibilities at No. 10 and what do those jumps tell us about the Dolphins, 49ers and Eagles? Meanwhile Mike McCarthy’s first live presser in a year was full of insight, but also full of some comedic flubs. We break it all down along with so much more as I join Ryan O’Leary on the latest fire edition of the Cowboys Wire Podcast.

Cowboys Wire Podcast: Dan Quinn’s restoration phase, Prescott pay primer

In the latest Cowboys Wire podcast episode, Dan Quinn has built a reputation as a leader of choking teams. Can he restore his luster?

The Dallas Cowboys want to wipe last year from their memory banks and for good reason. The Mike Nolan era was an abject disaster and Dan Quinn has been brought in to ressurect a fallen defensive identity. The question is though, has he lost his mojo from his Seattle days?

Ever since the Super Bowl collapse to the Patriots, the Falcons reputation as chokers has been a fulfilled prophecy. Can Quinn shake that now that he’s back in charge of calling the plays? I sit down with host Ryan O’Leary as the Cowboys Wire podcast returns for the 2021 league year to discuss this, as well as go to work on Chris Simms’ evaluation of Dak Prescott’s worth. Tune in, another can’t miss episode.

Podcast: I’ll say it, Cowboys’ season ‘Wasn’t as bad as it feels right now’

For all the difficulties the Cowboys faced, was the final result really that far off from where people should’ve expected it to be?

“Let’s also look at what happened. At the end of the day, they weren’t good enough to beat a bad Giants team when it all came down to it..

If you look at it from the point of view of a brand new coaching staff coming in, installing their system. You’re going to have struggles early in the year and you hope to get better towards the tail end of the season, the [Dallas] Cowboys did that.. The Cowboys basically did what they should have done based on all of the injuries that they had. It wasn’t pretty. It wasn’t anything to write home about… but in the grand scheme of how you’d envision the season to go when you lose your star franchise QB after week 5, you lose your Pro Bowl RT before the season starts, you only have two games of your left tackle, your right guard who is All Pro, first ballot Hall of Famer probably the best offensive lineman in the league only plays half the season.. you can kind of understand how this team is a 6-10, 7-9 team regardless of what your expectations were.

So I think that while this was a miserable existence, there are many reasons to believe that the Cowboys are a true bounce back candidate… You can see how you can spin this that it wasn’t as bad as it feels right now.”

In the final episode of the season, we talk the overview of the season, the Dak Prescott negotiations, which other free agents the Cowboys will look to bring back and a preview of the options in front of the team for the 2021 NFL draft.

Cowboys Wire Podcast: The miseducation of Kellen Moore haters

The Dallas Cowboys are apparently at high risk of having to replace both offensive and defensive coordinators in the 2021 offseason. Meanwhile, the 2020 season has still yet to have it’s final act written. Can this team actually make the playoffs, and if they get in, can they actually win a game?

Ryan O’Leary and K.D. Drummond go in depth as Week 17 brings the end of the regular season, but not necessarily the end of the Cowboys’ first year under head coach Mike McCarthy. There are major differences between Dallas and the New York Giants as they try to hang onto hope in the NFC East race.

Cowboys Wire Podcast: Will we all owe Mike McCarthy an apology?

Blame these guys specifically if Jalen Hurts embarrasses the Cowboys in Week 16. Will Mike McCarthy demand apologies? What about the 2021 Pro Bowl should rankle a few feathers? The latest ep is out!

Somehow the Dallas Cowboys are going into a full NFL Week 16 weekend with an important game on the horizon? If the club can pull it off with a lot of help from others, will the universe owe Mike McCarthy an apology for some of the questioning of his methods and snap distribution?

The Pro Bowl squads were announced and for the first time in over 30 years there wasn’t a single Cowboys player representing. Is this an oversight, or is a 5-9 team deserving of any individual accolade. How the group chat might’ve worked against the interest of the collective as the club prepares to take on the Philadelphia Eagles and Jalen Hurts. It’s all here in the latest episode of the Cowboys Wire podcast.

How many times can a team return to the drawing board before it collapses from all of the erasing? The Dallas Cowboys returned to the struggle zone in their latest foray onto the field and dreams of a fantastical finish to a failure of a season went up in smoked turkey. The aftermath of the Thanksgiving game didn’t end with the final whistle though, because the club is still dealing with the fallout of the cancellation of the nightcap between Pittsburgh and Baltimore.

We dive into the schedule delays, the coaching decisions during the loss to Washington, the injuries and how they impact future plans and much more. Tune in for another great episode as I chop it up with Ryan O’Leary on the Week 13 edition of the Cowboys Wire Podcast.

Cowboys Wire Podcast: Thoughts on Markus Paul’s passing, Thanksgiving game

The Dallas Cowboys will suit up for their annual Thanksgiving Day with the heaviest of hearts in 2020. On Tuesday, strength and conditioning coach Markus Paul suffered a medical emergency while at the team facility, and he sadly passed away on Wednesday night. The team still has to suit up and play a football game less than 24 hours later as they’ll take on the Washington Football Team.

While we normally record our shows on Tuesday, we felt it important this episode did not air without the grave news surrounding the game that will undoubtedly have a different vibe to it. Ryan O’Leary and I recorded a new beginning segment this morning, to better reflect the situation. We also didn’t want to not provide the other portions of the show recorded earlier in the week, discussing the win over Minnesota and Thursday’s game. Have a listen.

CowboysWire Podcast: Is the franchise embracing the backdoor tank in 2020?

Does everything smell right to you?

The Dallas Cowboys players are trying their best. Guys like Jaylon Smith and Xavier Woods may not be putting their best foot forward on the film (or one foot in front of the other for that matter) but we know they aren’t tanking. What about the coaching staff and front office? In the latest episode, we look into the words of the front office and the action of the coaching staff and wonder if their intentions are still to put the best product on the field for the remainder of the 2020 season.

Pull up a chair and listen as K.D. Drummond and Ryan O’Leary talk the Week 9 loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers, Garrett Gilbert’s Cowboys debut and where the club goes from here.

Cowboys Wire Podcast: A kinder, gentler Mike McCarthy emerges amid turmoil

The Dallas Cowboys are 2-6, and getting ready to take on the last remaining undefeated team in the NFL. With the Pittsburgh Steelers coming to town and fresh off a double-digit loss to division rival Philadelphia, one might expect Mike McCarthy to be losing his cool.

But with player leaks and throwing his team under the bus in the immediate past, McCarthy was highly supportive of his squad this past Sunday. Was it for real, or is he trying to mend bridges? K.D. Drummond and Ryan O’Leary discuss this, along with the hideous QB performance of rookie Ben DiNucci and what lies ahead in the Week 9 tilt with Pittsburgh.

Cowboys Wire Podcast: Jerry Jones isn’t happy right now

The Cowboys owner didn’t like the line of questioning, and showed the wear and tear of the 2020 season is grinding even on him.

The misery continues for the 2020 Dallas Cowboys as another week passes and another major injury befalls the organization. This time, QB2 Andy Dalton was the recipient of a vicious hit and has been knocked out. Owner Jerry Jones wasn’t happy with the line of questioning during his weekly radio show, indicating Sunday’s loss to Washington may have finally broke his spirit.

Where does the club go from here? The team moves to Ben DiNucci under center for Week 8 and a Sunday Night Football matchup with the Philadelphia Eagles and there may be no safe quarter within the roster. K.D. Drummond (KDDrummondNFL) and Ryan O’Leary (RyanOLearySMG) go in deep to bring you the latest insight on the horror show.
