Cowboys News: DeMarcus Ware snubbed, Micah Parsons, Dan Quinn honored, Collins back to guard?

The legend wasn’t elected and it sent shock waves throughout the community. Meanwhile, projecting 2022 improvements. The latest news and notes, rounded up by @StarConscience

Thursday night felt like it would be a joyous occasion for DeMarcus Ware and Cowboys fans. However, in a shocking turn of events, the seven-time All-Pro didn’t make the Hall of Fame in his first year of eligibility. It was a big night for defensive coordinator Dan Quinn and his biggest asset, Micah Parsons, though as they were named Assistant Coach of the Year and Defensive Rookie of the Year respectively.

Wide receiver Michael Gallup will be one of the most intriguing talking points during the next month with free agency on the horizon and his future in Dallas being a mystery. Multiple injuries could lower his price and lead to his return, which would certainly make offensive coordinator Kellen Moore happy. Also on the menu for Thursday was a look at what the Cowboys need to do to make a Super Bowl run next season, and La’el Collins possibly moving back to guard. Here are the news and notes.

News and Notes: Cowboys’ Parsons, Diggs dominate skills competitions, free agency paths to take

Micah Parsons lining his shelf with accolades while Stephen Jones sets the stage for uneventful free agency period in Dallas, again. The latest news, from @StarConscience.

Micah Parsons has racked up just about every honor a rookie linebacker can receive. He added to his plethora of achievements this week by being named the 2021 Butkus award winner given to the NFL’s top linebacker. Stephen Jones is the puppet master of the Dallas Cowboys’ finances, much to the dismay of the franchise’s fan base. 2022 looks to be more of the same as with free agency only a month away.

Amari Cooper is the Cowboys’ top option at wide receiver. However, with cap space being scarce in Dallas, trading of releasing him could be an option the Cowboys explore. Kicker Greg Zuerlein, who struggled mightily this season, was put on notice this week with the signing of Chris Naggard to a futures contract. Potential draft prospects, Parsons winning the NFL’s Fastest Man race, whether or not the Cowboys will follow the Los Angeles Rams and their “All In” philosophy next season, and much more take center stage in the news and notes for Thursday.

Cowboys News: Quinn stays, Moore back on Miami’s radar, 2022 breakout candidate

Dan Quinn is staying to finish what he started while Kellen Moore chances at landing a HC gig in 2022 aren’t as dead as they appeared. | From @StarConscience

Cowboys fans can rejoice. Defensive coordinator Dan Quinn has been on several interviews in pursuit of a head coaching job. However, after the Denver Broncos and Chicago Bears announced that they were going in a different direction when Quinn seemed to be the frontrunner for both gigs, he informed the other teams he’s staying with the Cowboys. The same might not be true for offensive coordinator Kellen Moore though, as he is set to sit down with the brass of the Miami Dolphins for a second time about their vacancy at head coach.

Mike McCarthy isn’t the most popular man in Dallas after his team fell so short in the playoffs. They won’t come around anytime soon as an interview from 2019 with NFL journalist Peter King resurfaced, and it clearly shows McCarthy hasn’t done some of the things that he claimed he would do with another opportunity to coach. 2022 draft prospects, what the Cowboys will do at tight end and how their championship window might be closing  and more round out the news and notes.

Cowboys News: Prescott fined, Michael Gallup’s last days in Dallas?

Some potential draft targets, offseason need discussions and a fat financial penalty for the Dallas signal caller. | From @StarConscience

Dak Prescott didn’t have one of his better performances versus the San Francisco 49ers on Sunday, and the disappointment didn’t end on the field. He applauded the fans for throwing objects at the officials as they left the field, which wasn’t a good look, and he will lose some dollars over it. The NFL draft is three months away and offensive tackle and safety are at the top of the Dallas Cowboys’ needs.

Michael Gallup played in the final year of his rookie deal in 2021. Unfortunately, he suffered a calf strain and a torn ACL, and with the emergence of Cedrick Wilson, his days in Dallas may end in the next few months. Also, the future of DeMarcus Lawrence, what caused the Cowboys’ offense to falter down the stretch, and more lead an intriguing roundup of news and notes.

Cowboys News: Parsons on COVID list, DFW hosting another Super Bowl?

COVID continues to impact the landscape of individual teams and now it’s spread could be changing February plans for the league as a whole. | From @StarConscience

Micah Parsons is two sacks away from breaking the NFL’s rookie record but unfortunately, the sensation will likely miss out on his opportunity to achieve the milestone. His status for the Week 18 regular season finale against the Philadelphia Eagles in doubt. COVID cases are rising across the country and while the focus has been on how individual absences can affect any team, it could also lead to a change of venue for the Super Bowl. A possible replacement destination? AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas, home of the Dallas Cowboys.

The Cowboys are 11-5 and heading to the playoffs but they have been consistently inconsistent, leading to questions to how far they can advance. Kicker Greg Zuerlein being a major liability heading in the playoffs, observations from the Cowboys loss to the Cardinals, and more highlight the news and notes.

Cowboys GameDay News: Dan Reeves passes, 53-man roster shuffle for flexed Cardinals game

The Cowboys are all set to take on the Arizona Cardinals but they and the NFL world mourn a family member. | From @StarConscience

While the Cowboys were deep in preparation for their big Sunday matchup, the NFL world was shaken by a second major passing in less than a week. Former Cowboys’ running back and assistant coach Dan Reeves sadly lost his life on Saturday at the age of 77. Reeves had been a part of nine Super Bowl appearances, the majority with Dallas.

Wide receiver Amari Cooper calls this season’s version of the Cowboys rare and he recognizes the opportunity they have to achieve something special as one of the top contenders in the NFC. Cornerback Trevon Diggs has terrorized quarterbacks all season by snagging 11 interceptions, and he recently spoke on how Cowboys’ secondary coach Al Harris and his guidance have gotten his game to its current and future levels. A look at how COVID and injury have shaped the Cowboys’ 53-man roster for Week 17, especially at linebacker, keys to victory and more highlight the news and notes for the first game of the new year.

News: Cowboys clinch playoff spot, Cooper frustrated with offense

The Cowboys will make their first playoff appearance since 2018. Amari Cooper is frustrated with his lack of opportunities lately. Meanwhile, Randy Gregory’s journey has come along swimmingly. | From @StarConscience

The Dallas Cowboys haven’t played in Week 16 yet, but still had their ticket to the postseason punched for the first time since 2018. Wide receiver Amari Cooper has seen his targets take quite the dip over the last month, and the four-time Pro Bowl selection voiced his displeasure on Thursday stating he feels he can be a big help in crucial moments, especially on third downs.

Defensive end Randy Gregory is having the best season of his career in 2021 by tying several career highs with three games to play. He was rewarded for his efforts by being named an alternate for the Pro Bowl. The COVID train has yet again made another appearance on the Cowboys roster as free safety Malik Hooker and running back JaQuan Hardy tested positive for the virus which puts their availability for Week 16 in doubt. Film study of the Cowboys struggling offense, upcoming free agents set to hit the market in 2022, defensive end DeMarcus Lawrence getting his groove back, and more sit at the forefront of this edition of the news and notes.

Cowboys News: Coaching mistakes, options to replace La’el Collins, Lamb’s issue

Yes it was a feel-good loss, but it was still a loss. A look at what went wrong against the Bucs and the continued Collins fallout. | From @StarConscience

There were some things the Dallas Cowboys did well and some they didn’t against the Tampa Buccaneers. Dak Prescott was magical in the passing game and the defense forced four turnovers. However, the kicking game was a major issue and their kick coverage was atrocious. Mike McCarthy decided to kick a 48-yard field goal with under two minutes left in the fourth quarter to give the Cowboys a one-point lead. Historical rates suggest that he should have gone for it and not allowed Tom Brady the opportunity for a game-winning drive, which he would engineer.

La’el Collins was hit with a five-game suspension on Friday. With multiple versatile offensive linemen, there are a plethora of ways the Cowboys can make up for his absence. CeeDee Lamb gained over 100 yards in Week 1 but he also let a few passes get through his hands, highlighting an issue that plagued him as a rookie. Amari Cooper’s record-setting performance, the players who shined the most against the Buccaneers, and much more sit at the forefront of the news and notes for Saturday.

Cowboys News: Collins suspension gets confusing, fallout from Week 1 loss, measuring Dak’s greatness

What the suspension of La’el Collins means for Dallas now, Dak’s record-setting night, and America’s Team brings a ratings bonanza for NBC. | From @ToddBrock24f7

Hard to overshadow a barnburner of a game that featured 800-plus yards of offense and came down to a last-minute field goal in primetime, but La’el Collins may have done it. News of his five-game suspension rocked the Cowboys and the league late Friday, but it may not be a simple open-and-shut case. Representatives for Collins are arguing everything from an arbitrary and made-up punishment to the questionable way the announcement was made.  The team, meanwhile will scramble to develop a Plan B they didn’t think they’d need… as an unfortunate streak for the Dallas O-line is about to be extended even further.

That still leaves plenty to dissect from the game itself, from Michael Gallup’s bad news to good news for NBC in the ratings department. Dak Prescott had a record-setting night of sorts, and he feels he’s not just back from his injuries but better. Greg Zuerlein breaks down how he booted this game away, and Brian Baldinger breaks down Micah Parsons in his first regular season action. All that, plus Tyron Smith shows himself to be an impenetrable fortress, Ezekiel Elliott strikes one pundit as excess baggage, and all the big moments and recaps of a wild Week 1 game… all in News and Notes.

Cowboys News: Cooper out to prove he’s NFL’s best WR, is Dallas the Bucs hottest ticket ever?

With the season opener approaching, what can Amari Cooper accomplish in 2021? Will Micah Parsons take home hardware? What awaits in Tampa? The News and Notes. | From @CDBurnett7

The Cowboys open the 2021 season in a primetime bout with the defending champion Buccaneers. As expected, Dallas brings a lot of attention but is it the hottest ticket of the regular season? It’s America’s Team, expect no less.

Running backs Ezekiel Elliott and Tony Pollard are poised for a big year with a healthy quarterback and offensive line leading the unit. Will Elliott specifically return to the form he was known for early in his career?

After being ruled out initially, All-Pro right guard Zack Martin could technically return for the Week 1 bout according to team owner Jerry Jones, but should fans get their hopes up? Wide receiver Amari Cooper discussed his mindset and how he believes he’s the best receiver in football but just needs the numbers to prove it.

With the season opener on Thursday, what should fans be looking for in the first game of 2021? Cowboys linebacker Micah Parsons is at the top of the list, potentially eyeing a defensive rookie of the year campaign while quarterback Dak Prescott draws the headlines as his comeback season begins.

This is the latest Cowboys News and Notes.
