The Liberty trolled Courtney Williams with a Target bag after her Birkin quote

Oh no, Courtney.

Courtney Williams didn’t have her best performance during Game 5 of the WNBA Finals, and the New York Liberty made sure she knew it after they won a championship.

During a halftime interview of Game 4 in Minneapolis Friday, Courtney, who was having a stellar game, told Holly Rowe that she was in her bag. Williams hilariously explained, “I’m in a Birkin right now. So, I gotta make sure I don’t drop down to like a Target bag. I gotta stay in my Birkin.”

Unfortunately, she DID NOT stay in her Birkin on Sunday when the series shifted back to Brooklyn. Williams had just four points and shot 14 percent from the field. Postgame, someone masterfully left a bag with “Birkin” written on it and a Target bag on the Liberty’s midcourt logo.

A WNBA Finals in-game interview paid off with Lynx’s Cheryl Reeve reacting to a Courtney Williams 3-pointer

Okay, this was pretty great.

During Game 3 of the 2024 WNBA Finals, one of ESPN’s in-game coach interviews actually paid off in a really cool way.

As the broadcast checked in with Minnesota Lynx coach Cheryl Reeve during the game’s third quarter, guard Courtney Williams drilled a 3-point attempt from the arc.

The in-game interview gave fans a close-up look at how Reeve reacted in the moment. She wanted Williams to try for the basket, as she said as much on the broadcast. Once she nailed the attempt, Reeve reacted with an emphatic “Boom!”

While most in-game coaching interviews don’t provide much, this was an awesome, real-time look at a coach reacting to a big moment and celebrating once it goes her team’s way.

Courtney Williams’ clutch WNBA Finals performance changes the calculus of the Lynx-Liberty series

With ice in her veins, Courtney Williams changed the WNBA Finals.

Courtney Williams deserves her flowers NOW for her heroic performance during Game 1 of the WNBA Finals.

Ahead of Thursday’s showdown with the New York Liberty, I tried to warn the masses about Williams and her prowess when I dove into the WNBA Finals storylines. Not only is Williams a mid-range menace — I’m always stunned when she actually misses a jump shot — but she’s been ON FIRE from 3-point range during the playoffs.

Williams typically doesn’t take a lot of 3-point buckets. But they are always timely when she does, including a colossal shot she nailed on Thursday night. The New York Liberty’s defense collapsed during the final five minutes in regulation, allowing Minnesota to erase a 15-point lead. An otherworldly shot from Courtney punctuated the night as she totally NAILED a bucket for the ages and the ensuing free throw after Sabrina Ionescu fouled her.

Courtney Williams got that dog in her in case you didn’t know 🐶 Williams scored big buckets for the @Minnesota Lynx which helped propel her squad to the Game 1 dub Final stats: 23 PTS, 5 REB, 5 AST #wnba

The following moments, including a missed free throw by Breanna Stewart, sent the game to overtime, where the Lynx completed its improbable comeback. Rightfully so, a lot of folks were HYPED.

However, that colossal win would not have happened without Courtney Williams. And what was the takeaway from the night? Per Noa Dalzell of SB Nation, Celtics Coach Joe Mazzulla bluntly and hysterically explained not to foul.

Mazzulla likely said that jokingly, but his somewhat serious undertones should be noted. You DO NOT want to find yourself on the receiving end of someone with a propensity to score at will with the game on the line.

Napheesa Collier, Kayla McBride, and other key players from the Lynx will continue to deliver, but Courtney Williams’ clutch production changes the Lynx-Liberty series. On Thursday, she had 11 clutch points down the stretch, bumping her total to 13 during the WNBA playoffs and signaling that if she continues to play at such a high level, the Lynx could win another championship.

Caitlin Clark crossed up Lynx’s Courtney Williams while driving up the court with this devastating move

Whew, Caitlin Clark is on another level.

Indiana Fever rookie guard Caitlin Clark showed off her outstanding elusiveness against the Minnesota Lynx on Saturday night.

During the road game, Clark crossed up Lynx guard Courtney Williams with this outstanding move to keep pushing the basketball up the court for the Fever.

Breaking ankles against the Lynx isn’t new for Clark, as Williams joins Bridget Carleton in having been crossed up by the Fever rookie this season.

While Clark didn’t get points out of this stellar move, it just further showed why she’s so dangerous on the court when driving with the basketball.

You just never know when you might get crossed up yourself.

Kelsey Plum gave an amazingly blunt NSFW response about Courtney Williams dropping buckets on her

Game recognizes game.

After a tough loss Wednesday, Las Vegas Aces star Kelsey Plum didn’t sugarcoat how hard it was to watch Minnesota Lynx guard Courtney Williams drop bucket after bucket on her.

Defensively, the Aces have been inconsistent for most of the season. Teams usually don’t have enough in their toolbox to go toe-to-toe with Las Vegas, so it’s usually never a problem. But, the Lynx are different.

They’re fantastic on both sides of the floor and have multiple scoring options, including Courtney Williams, whose midrange game is nearly automatic. So, it’s not shocking that Courtney put Kelsey in the blender all night — to the tune of 22 points, 10 assists and 7 rebounds on 62 percent shooting — and Kelsey openly admitted it. Here’s what she told the media postgame about guarding Williams:

“I’m a big Courtney Williams fan. I’ve watched her [during] her entire career…Obviously, she’s playing the highest level of basketball right now…she cooked me tonight.”

“There’s really not much to say…when you get your [expletive] kicked, you gotta give the other people credit.”

WNBA playoffs predictions: Will the Liberty crush the Aces’ chances of winning back-to-back?

For basketball heads everywhere, the WNBA playoffs are an out-of-body experience.

The WNBA playoffs are here. This is when regular season records mean nothing, and wins mean everything. It’s buzzer beaters, emphatically blocked shots, “what did I just see?” moments and scoring so good you’ll need a pulse check.

For basketball heads everywhere, this is an out-of-body experience. The level of play is elevated, and so are the expectations.

Will the Lynx fly too close to the Sun? (See what I did there?) Will the Liberty crush the Aces’ chances of winning back-to-back titles?

Who wins? Who’s out?

These are your 2023 WNBA playoff predictions:

WNBA announces return in Florida with ‘commitment to social justice’

While everyone is waiting on the NBA to finalize a plan to return the WNBA announced their plan to play in Florida on Monday.

While the NBA and the NBPA continue to finalize details about their own return to play later this summer, their WNBA counterparts announced on Monday a commitment to a return to play with a focus on ‘social justice,’ including full salaries paid to every player in the shortened season, which will be played on the IMG Academy campus in Bradenton, Florida, which is near Tampa.

“In our discussions with the league, we emphasized and they agreed that a strong commitment to a 2020 season will give the WNBA the chance to show the world that it’s taking the steps needed to secure our livelihood and well-being, while also providing the opportunity to amplify our collective voice,” said WNBPA President Nneka Ogwumike in a press release from the WNBA.  “We have always been at the forefront of initiatives with strong support of #BlackLivesMatter, #SayHerName, the LGBTQ+ community, gun control, voting rights, #MeToo, mental health and the list goes on.  This is not only necessary from a humanitarian perspective, but it may be one of the biggest opportunities that this league has and will ever have.”

There were reports that some WNBA players were part of Kyrie Irving’s phone call on Friday questioning the merits of a restart, it appears that the union has agreed with the league to move forward with the 2020 season. Just like with the WNBA, a season doesn’t mean that every player will play and we’ve already seen Minnesota Lynx star Maya Moore forego multiple seasons in committing her life to focus on freeing Jonathan Irons, a man she believes was wrongfully convicted, prior to the current political climate.

Per the WNBA’s release, the 12 WNBA teams will report to Bradenton for training camp in early July.
