Adrenaline ‘cuts the edge off’ for Jadeveon Clowney on game days

Seahawks defensive end Jadveon Clowney has been playing through the pain of a core injury but says the adrenaline helps him on game days.

Seattle Seahawks defensive end Jadveon Clowney has been playing through pain ever since he was recently diagnosed with a core injury. Although he has been able to suit up on game days, Clowney has been severely limited in practice during the week.

“It’s painful whenever you cough, you turn, you twist, lift your leg up. anything you do that involves your lower abs, when you’re moving and stuff,” Clowney told reporters Thursday. “It kind of hurts a lot but you just try to manage it as much as possible. Keep your reps down during the week and just put your foot on the gas on game day and just live with the outcome. Sometimes it gets worse sometimes it’s the same, so you just try to deal with it.”

Clowney opted to not undergo surgery with the hopes of finishing out the season. He was surprisingly able to log over 80% percent of the defensive snaps in Philadelphia against the Eagles. Clowney gets a little assist when he takes the field, courtesy of his adrenal glands.

“Yes. You feel it,” Clowney said of the pain. “Your adrenaline cuts the edge off of it though. Until you get done and you get ready to get on the plane. But it cuts the edge off when you get out there and get going. It’s the game, it’s part of the game. So, you don’t pay no attention, you just play with it.”

Clowney was listed as a full participant in the Seahawks walkthrough Friday and is expected to play Sunday in Green Bay.

Jadeveon Clowney not practicing fully but expected to play on Sunday

Seattle Seahawks defensive end Jadveon Clowney has yet to fully practice this week but is expected to play against the Green Bay Packers.

There’s no denying Seattle Seahawks defensive end Jadeveon Clowney has been playing through pain over the last month with a core injury . . . he’s said so himself. But that hasn’t stopped him from making major contributions on the field come gamedays.

“I thought Clowney had a big factor,” coach Pete Carroll said Wednesday. “Just his presence, his activity, it was very much reminiscent of games we’ve seen like the San Francisco game earlier. There’s been a couple of those games when he’s just a problem. Everybody’s still working and all the other guys were clawing and scratching to get there. I think that was the factor that was the difference-maker. He’s a big factor for us and we’re hoping he’s going to be there again.”

But Clowney, who opted to not undergo surgery during the season, hasn’t been able to log much practice time ahead of the recent matchups. He was a limited participant in Wednesday’s session and Carroll said he will be taking it one day at a time.

“It’s about the same as last week,” Carroll explained. “Which is a good sign because he made it.”

Defensive ends Jadeveon Clowney, Ziggy Ansah uncertain for Sunday

The Seattle Seahawks could be down a couple of defenders against the Cardinals if Jadeveon Clowney and Ziggy Ansah are unable to play.

The Seattle Seahawks could be down a couple of defensive ends Sunday against the Arizona Cardinals if Jadeveon Clowney and Ziggy Ansah are unable to return from injuries. Both players were inactive Week 15 against the Carolina Panthers.

Clowney has been battling a sports hernia (core) issue over the last few weeks of the season. Opting not to undergo surgery at this point, he’s been pushing through the pain. But last week, Clowney was also sidelined by the flu, unable to even travel with the team.

As for Ansah, he’s still been fighting a neck injury.

Coach Pete Caroll did say both defenders would get some practice in starting Wednesday, however.

“I can’t tell you, that I don’t know,” Carroll responded when asked if Clowney and Ansah would be ready to suit up Week 16. “We’ve got to get through the week and see what happens. They are both going to get work today and we’ll just see how we progress and see if it’s right for those guys to play.

“I’m hoping – we’d love to get get them both back, but I can’t tell you right now.”

Ansah and Clowney have a number of days to prove they are ready to roll before the final injury report of the week comes out on Friday.

Seahawks in good shape after illness circulated through locker room

The Seattle Seahawks have been battling flu and cold season, but the illness that has circulated the locker room seems to have passed.

It’s that time of year for fans – flu and cold season – and it’s no different for NFL teams around the league. Over the last couple of weeks, an illness has circulated around the Seattle Seahawks locker room, impacting a number of players.

Fortunately for Seattle, the bug seems to have passed.

“Well, it was really directed – focused – we practiced hard,” coach Pete Carroll said Friday afternoon. “We backed off today because we worked so hard the last couple days. We’re in good shape and we’re ready to go. We’ve done the things that we do. I think everybody’s really tuned in to making sure that we come back and play really good ball this week. It showed throughout the week. We’re in good shape.”

As of the final injury report, only one player remained listed as sick – defensive end Jadeveon Clowney – who is also battling a sports hernia.

Clowney has ultimately been ruled out for Sunday in Carolina, however, the illness that has stricken the locker room no longer looks to be a factor.
