Broncos QB Russell Wilson now has 9th-most comeback wins in NFL history

Broncos QB Russell Wilson has 35 fourth-quarter comeback wins, tied with John Elway for the ninth-most in NFL history.

Following a 21-20 comeback win over the Minnesota Vikings on Sunday Night Football, Denver Broncos quarterback Russell Wilson has now led 39 game-winning drives in the regular season, 10th-most in NFL history.

Wilson also has 35 fourth-quarter comeback wins (including postseason), which ties him with John Elway for the ninth-most in NFL history.

After Sunday’s win, Wilson deflected praise to his teammates.

“I think that for me, it’s all about my teammates. It’s guys making great plays. It’s Samaje [Perine] making a big first down the past several weeks. It’s the [offensive] line giving me enough time to make decisions. We’re just checking the play and everybody being poised. It’s guys making — I think about Jerry Jeudy making a key third-down last game against the Bills right over the ball — deep over the ball that kept the drive alive.

“It’s just those things. Guys like Courtland Sutton being the best version of Courtland Sutton. He’s dominant and he’s playing like an All-Pro, Pro-Bowl player. That’s who he is. That’s who he is every day. It’s just being us. It’s just being the best version of us when the game is on the line and having that clutch gene.”

Here’s a quick look at the ten quarterbacks with the most fourth-quarter comeback wins in NFL history.

Broncos QB Russell Wilson embraces 4th quarter comebacks

“When the game is on the line, that’s when you got to love it most,” Broncos QB Russell Wilson said.

After trailing the Chicago Bears 28-7 in the third quarter of Sunday’s game, Denver Broncos quarterback Russell Wilson led a comeback. The Broncos ended up winning 31-28, marking Wilson’s 32nd career comeback win.

Wilson now ranks 10th on the NFL’s all-time list for career fourth-quarter comeback wins (including playoffs), one spot behind John Elway (35).

“When the game is on the line, that’s when you got to love it most,” Wilson said on Sunday. “That’s when you got to love it most. You got to have great belief and you got to have no fear. The biggest thing about winning and winning in comeback games and all that, it’s everybody. It’s not just you. Everybody staying poised, everybody believing.

“[I’ve] had some great moments in my career, but that was one of my favorite ones. I remember I had one my rookie year here. It was a great matchup going down 99 yards. I just had that in the back of my head, we were going to win in game and we believed it the whole third and fourth [quarter]. We just believed it, everybody did, and we all did that together.”

Tom Brady (55) ranks No. 1 on the all-time list, followed by Peyton Manning (45). Wilson has a ways to go before catching those all-time greats, but ranking in the top-10 is no small feat. The 34-year-old quarterback also became the first player in NFL history with 5,000 career rushing yards and 40,000 career passing yards earlier this season.

After a disappointing season under Nathaniel Hackett in 2022, Wilson is having a bounce-back year under Sean Payton this fall.
