First look: Colorado State at Boise State odds and lines

Looking at Saurday’s Colorado State at Boise State college football odds, lines and trends. Here’s what you need to know.

The Colorado State Rams (2-5, 2-1 Mountain West) visit the blue turf of Albertsons Stadium to battle the Boise State Broncos (5-2, 4-0) Saturday at 7 p.m. ET (FS1). Below, we look at Colorado State vs. Boise State odds from Tipico Sportsbook; check back for all our college football picks and predictions.

Boise State enters on a 3-game win streak since starting QB Hank Bachmeier left the program to transfer — following a 27-10 loss at UTEP Sept. 23. With new QB Taylen Green being more of a dual threat, the Broncos have been able to expand the offense, helping the defense as a result.

Colorado State claimed its 2nd win of the season Saturday behind a 17-13 victory vs. Hawaii, though the Rams failed to cover the spread as 6-point home favorites. They’re now 2-1 in their last 3 games — they upset Nevada 17-14 as 14-point road underdogs Oct. 7 — after starting the season 0-4. Take note: The wins came against the 2 bottom teams in the Mountain West. As CSU’s heir schedule gets harder, the wins will be fleeting.

Colorado State vs. Boise State head-to-head

The Broncos have owned this rivalry in recent seasons.

Since 2017, Boise State is 5-0 only scoring under 30 points 1 time while scoring 50 or more 3 times.

New coach Jay Norvell is hoping to bring respect back to the Colorado State program. To do so, a victory in this rivalry against a perennial powerhouse in the conference would go a long way.

Will it happen this season? Unlikely. But anything is possible in college football.

Colorado State at Boise State: Three things to know

  1. Colorado State surprised Wyoming last week as short underdogs at home, winning 34-24, despite the fact the Rams were outgained 465 to 342 in total yards, and 23-18 in first downs. That’s because the Rams forced three turnovers for a plus-3 margin, including a pick-six just three minutes in to set the tone.
  2. Boise State outscored Utah State and Air Force by a 91-43 score in its first two MWC games, but it was routed on the Smurf Turf by BYU 51-17 last week. QB Hank Bachmeier was unavailable due to an undisclosed reason, and his replacement Jack Sears was knocked out in the first quarter with a likely concussion. The Broncos might be down to freshmen Cade Fennegan and Andy Peters in this one.
  3. The Broncos won last season’s meeting in Fort Collins 31-24, while the Rams covered a +13.5-point number as the Under (56.5) connected. It was just the second time in the past seven meetings that Colorado State hit the number against Boise State.

Colorado State at Boise State: Odds, betting lines, predictions and picks

Prediction

Boise State 27, Colorado State 24

Money line (ML)

Boise State (-667) is a risky play due to a multitude of injury reasons. Bachmeier has missed two straight games, and RB George Holani is also considered doubtful due to an undisclosed ailment. AVOID.

Against the spread (ATS)

COLORADO STATE +14 (-110) is a sharp play on the road catching two touchdowns from Boise State, which might be missing its top two quarterbacks as well as its top tailback. Head coach Bryan Harsin said earlier this week that Bachmeier won’t miss the rest of the season, but he wasn’t clear if the sophomore will be under center or not Saturday. There is too much uncertainty to bet Boise.

Over/Under (O/U)

UNDER 60.5 (-110) is a strong play with the Broncos banged up and expected to be a bit shorthanded at the skill positions. The Under is 11-2 in Colorado State’s past 13 conference games, and 10-1 in its previous 11 against winning sides. The Under is also a perfect 4-0 in Boise’s past four showings on Thursday, and 8-3 in the past 11 as a home favorite.
