Winston Watkins Jr. opens up on decision to decommit from Colorado

Winston Watkins Jr. opened up on his decision to decommit from Colorado

Class of 2025 four-star wide receiver Winston Watkins Jr. surprised a lot of people when he decided to decommit from Colorado on Sunday. The young recruit committed to Colorado immediately after Deion Sanders got hired, and he has surely made highlights over the summer at various camps.

Despite the decision to open up his recruitment, Watkins said he’s still considering a future in Boulder, per Adam Gorney of Rivals.

“I’m still messing with Colorado super, super heavy, but I just want to make sure I’m making the right decision,” Watkins told Rivals.

Watkins also told Recruiting News Guru the following: “I am making sure I am making the right decision; I am keeping my options open. There are a lot of schools wanting to contact me, but they are scared of Colorado. I want to make sure everyone can show me their best.”

The First Baptist Academy (Fla.) wide receiver’s attention is currently on the playoffs, but the good news is that Colorado still has a shot of landing him.

Hopefully, Watkins’ decision doesn’t lead to other decommits, although Colorado isn’t the only program dealing with this.

Social media reacts to Coach Prime’s first win leading CU Buffs

Buffs fans shared plenty of great reactions to Coach Prime’s first win

Deion Sanders proved to the college football world on Saturday that he can talk the talk and walk the walk.

Colorado’s first-year head coach led the Buffaloes into Amon G. Carter Stadium. With the help of otherworldly performances by two-way phenom Travis Hunter, starting quarterback Shedeur Sanders and true freshman running back Dylan Edwards, the Buffaloes managed a 45-42 upset of No. 17 TCU.

The Horned Frogs, who reached the College Football Playoff last season, couldn’t slow Colorado’s passing game: The younger Sanders threw for more than 500 yards in his Buffs debut.

As you’d expect, social media had plenty to say about Coach Prime’s inspiring first win with the Buffs:

Colorado lands All-Big 12 linebacker Josh Chandler-Semedo from transfer portal

The Buffs added a huge piece to their defense via the transfer portal

Spring ball is officially a wrap for the Colorado Buffaloes, and after a successful spring showcase, all eyes are on the start of the 2022 college football season. That doesn’t mean there’s no work left to be done, and the Buffs’ roster is still evolving.

Their latest transfer portal addition announced his decision to come to Boulder on Saturday with Josh Chandler-Semedo, an All-Big 12 linebacker from West Virginia.

Chandler-Semedo will use his final year of NCAA eligibility with the Buffaloes. He has 31 career starts under his belt and was the Mountaineers’ active leader in career tackles with 260. In 2021, he led the team with 110 stops, 68 of which were solo efforts. He also had 1.5 sacks, 5.5 tackles for a loss, two interceptions and two forced fumbles.

The addition of Chandler-Semedo is absolutely huge for Colorado’s defense, which lost two of its biggest leaders and playmakers during the offseason as Nate Landman and Carson Wells both declared for the NFL draft. Chandler-Semedo will now bring a much-needed veteran presence to the Buffs’ defense.

Final AFCA Coaches Poll: How Colorado’s 2022 opponents rank

The final AFCA Coaches Poll of the season was released

Besides Utah putting up a strong fight but eventually falling to Ohio State in the Rose Bowl, not much went right for the Pac-12 this bowl season. The Pac-12’s struggles were represented well in the final USA TODAY AFCA Coaches Poll of the season, which was released on Tuesday.

Not surprisingly, the Pac-12 Champion Utah Utes led the way at No. 12 after being docked one spot for their Rose Bowl loss. While a lot can happen between now and next season, Kyle Wittingham’s Utes should give Colorado all it can handle in 2022.

Oregon, which Colorado hosts in November, dropped six spots in the poll to a season-low No. 21 ranking following its loss to Oklahoma in the Alamo Bowl.

Washington State, Arizona State, Oregon State and UCLA all lost (or withdrew) their respective bowl game and none received any votes in the final coaches poll. The Buffs will face all these teams minus WSU next season.

Two of Colorado’s three nonconference opponents missed the top 25 but did receive votes; Air Force landed 42 while Minnesota had 23. The Falcons and Gophers have both beaten CU in recent years and should provide a tough early schedule for the Buffs. At least Mike Sanford and Clay Patterson have switched sides.

TCU, the Buffs’ season opener, did not receive any votes.

But again, a lot can happen between now and September.

Davion Taylor keeps on playing well for the Eagles

Davion Taylor is making the most of his opportunity for the Eagles.

Another week of the NFL has come and gone. With it, one former Colorado Buffaloes star continues to make strides.

No, surprisingly it isn’t Laviska Shenault Jr. or Phillip Lindsay. Instead, it is Philadelphia Eagles linebacker, Davion Taylor.

The 2020 third-round draft pick has played more often over the past month or so, and Sunday’s game against the Los Angeles Chargers was the busiest of his career.

Although the Eagles lost on a last-second field goal, Taylor notched a career-high in tackles with six on the date to go with two assists. He was all over the place and is giving the coaching staff and the defense a much-needed presence.

On Sunday, Taylor stuffed star running back Austin Ekeler and flashed his brilliant closing speed and play recognition.

Prior to this Sunday, Taylor’s career-high was just three tackles. He did that twice but is finally coming into his own and making the Eagles brass smile after a successful Day Two draft selection.

Earlier in the week, the Eagles released veteran Eric Wilson and cited the emergence of Taylor as one major reason.

Defensive coordinator Jonathan Gannon raved about Taylor as well, according to Dave Spadaro of Eagles.com.

“We’re excited about Davion. He keeps improving.”

Well, so far it is working. More snaps and more work for Taylor and the former Buffs linebacker is making the most of this opportunity.

So far so good for Davion Taylor, and this is only the beginning for the young Eagles defender.
