Stanford head coach Troy Taylor discusses historic comeback win over Colorado

Here’s what Stanford head coach Troy Taylor had to say following the Cardinal’s upset of Colorado

In one of the most historic games in Pac-12 history, head coach Deion Sanders and the Colorado Buffaloes took a heartbreaking 46-43 double-overtime loss to the Stanford Cardinal on Friday night.

Colorado’s 29-point collapse was the largest blown lead in Buffaloes football history while Stanford overcame its largest deficit in program history

Following the incredible come-from-behind victory, Stanford head coach Troy Taylor spoke to the media about his team’s second-half performance and how the Cardinal was able to pull a win for the ages.

Here are some of the top quotes from Taylor following Stanford’s historic comeback win over the Buffs:

New Colorado analyst Pat Shurmur talks Deion Sanders, development of culture

Pat Shurmur discussed how establishing a winning culture at CU all starts with Deion Sanders

The Colorado Buffaloes offense is going to look much different this season with a ton of new faces. Head coach Deion Sanders has brought in a flurry of new players and assistant coaches.

One veteran on the staff is former Denver Broncos offensive coordinator Pat Shurmur, who’s now an analyst with the Buffs.

With the season approaching, Shurmur opened up on his role and then gave Coach Prime some huge praise (h/t Adam Munsterteiger of BuffStampede)

“You’re always trying to establish a winning culture. And when you have a leader of your team like Coach Prime, who has won at everything he’s done in life, that’s where it starts,” Shurmur said. “If our players and the people around them just listen to what he’s saying and take his message to heart, it’ll all start to blossom and then we’ll win football games. And then we can start talking more about what the culture looks like.”

Shurmur is right: Sanders has a lengthy resume of winning. His professional playing career as an NFL and MLB player was fascinating, and he made Jackson State a big name.

Now, he heads to Boulder, and there are high hopes for the Buffs this year and for the foreseeable future.

Coach Prime gives progress update on true freshman Cormani McClain

Cormani McClain is coming along “slowly but surely” during his first college fall camp, according to Coach Prime

One of the biggest recruiting wins of the 2023 class was Colorado pulling in five-star cornerback Cormani McClain from the state of Florida. With all of the Buffs’ roster turnover, McClain could see instant action as a true freshman.

During Colorado’s fall sports media day on Friday, head coach Deion Sanders provided an update on the five-star’s progress with the Buffs.

“He’s coming slowly but surely. Slowly but surely,” Sanders said. “He’s just got to make that adjustment from (high school to college) emotionally, mentally and psychologically and he’s going to be OK. But, he’s getting in shape. That’s No. 1. He’s got to understand the different levels of his game and you’ve got to have the light switch on at all times, especially playing against the receivers we have.”

There’s no denying McClain’s talent, but like most true freshmen, earning a significant role in CU’s defense this fall will come down to him taking care of the little things.

McClain’s progress throughout fall camp will be one of the more interesting storylines to follow over the next couple of weeks leading up to the Buffs’ Week 1 matchup against TCU.
