College Wire’s Heisman Poll: Tennessee quarterback Hendon Hooker top five after Florida win

Tennessee (4-0, 1-0 SEC) defeated Florida (2-2, 0-2 SEC), 38-33, at Neyland Stadium in Week 4.

No. 9 Tennessee has an open date in Week 5 before playing at LSU on Oct. 8. Kickoff between Tennessee and LSU is slated for noon EDT (ESPN).

Following Week 4, College Wire’s editors voted on the top Heisman Memorial Trophy contenders.

Each editor picked their top three student-athletes nationally, with the top candidate receiving five points, the second choice earning three points and a final choice receiving one point.

Hendon Hooker ninth in Week 1 College Wire’s Heisman Poll

Tennessee quarterback Hendon Hooker is ranked ninth in the Week 1 College Wire’s Heisman Poll.

Tennessee (1-0) defeated Ball State (0-1), 59-10, in Week 1.

Redshirt senior quarterback Hendon Hooker completed 18-of-25 passing attempts for 221 yards, two touchdowns and zero interceptions.

Hooker recorded 12 rushing yards and two touchdowns on five attempts against the Cardinals.

The 6-foot-4, 218-pound signal-caller totaled 2,945 passing yards, 31 passing touchdowns, three interceptions, 620 rushing yards and five rushing touchdowns in 2021 at Tennessee.

Following Week 1 games of the 2022 season, College Wire editors voted on the top Heisman Trophy contenders.

Hooker is ranked No. 9 following Week 1 and ahead of playing at No. 14 Pittsburgh (1-0).
