Micah Shrewsberry lands highest rated recruit in Notre Dame basketball history

Micah Shrewsberry made his presence known as a recruiter, landing five-star wing Jalen Haralson at Notre Dame.

A lot of elite college basketball players have come through South Bend to play for the Notre Dame Fighting Irish. Few, if any, had as much hype as Jalen Haralson, who committed to coach Micah Shrewsberry’s program on Wednesday.

Haralson is the highest rated commitment to Notre Dame in the modern era, coming in at No. 14 in the 2025 recruiting class at 247Sports. He chose the Irish over Indiana and Michigan State.

The 6’7 wing from La Porte, Indiana chose Notre Dame because of the strong relationship he built with Shrewsberry during the recruiting process, and the role coach envisions for him in South Bend.

“His vision for me is to just come in and play my game,” said Haralson. “There’s no time for waiting. He has big goals and he’s going to expect a lot out of me. He wants me to come in and be disruptive on the offensive and defensive end and be a problem. Be constant with rim attacks, be able to hit shots off the catch, post up.”

The Irish went 13-20 overall and 7-13 in ACC play last year, Shrewsberry’s first after leaving Penn State to replace Mike Brey, who spent over 20 years as Notre Dame’s head coach before retiring in 2023.

One of Shrewsberry’s goals was the build the program back up with high school talent, while upgrading the level of recruiting.

Haralson represents a huge first step toward those goals, as he joins four-star forward Brady Koehler in Notre Dame’s 2025 recruiting class, which is now ranked fifth in the country.

Four-star wing and son of 6-time NBA All-Star commits to SMU

Jermaine O’Neal Jr committed to Andy Enfield and SMU on Wednesday, citing the program’s move to the ACC as a major factor.

Andy Enfield left the USC Trojans this offseason to take over as head coach of the SMU Mustangs – but it doesn’t mean he’s done coaching the sons of NBA legends. After coaching Bronny James and DJ Rodman at USC last year, Enfield will now coach Jermaine O’Neal Jr – son of 6-time NBA All-Star Jermaine O’Neal – in the 2025-26 season.

O’Neal, the No. 149 ranked player in the 2025 recruiting class at 247Sports, announced his commitment to SMU on Wednesday on the 247Sports Channel.

O’Neal becomes Enfield’s first commitment in the 2025 class, choosing the Mustangs over Vanderbilt, his only other finalist.

The 6’5 forward from Southlake, Texas chose SMU for a variety of reasons, mentioning the location in Dallas, the track record of success for Enfield and his staff, and the team’s new conference affiliation:

“First and foremost, their move to the ACC was a major attraction for me,” O’Neal said. “The ACC is, without a doubt, one of the most prestigious conferences in college basketball history. The level of competition and exposure it provides is second to none.”

Kentucky basketball lands No. 2 center in 2025 recruiting class

Kentucky Wildcats coach Mark Pope made a splash in the 2025 recruiting class, securing a commitment from four-star center Malachi Moreno.

Mark Pope landed his first future recruit as the head coach of the Kentucky Wildcats, securing a commitment from 2025 center Malachi Moreno on Friday morning.

Moreno is a 7’0 center from Georgetown, KY, about fifteen minutes down the road from Lexington. A four-star prospect who is ranked No. 25 in the 2025 class at 247Sports, Moreno chose the hometown Wildcats over seven other finalists: Arkansas, Indiana, Louisville, Iowa, Ohio State, North Carolina, and Notre Dame.

“It being a dream school of mine since I was a wee little fella’,” Moreno said of why he picked Kentucky. “Just the coaching staff, the play-style and the place of Kentucky, it felt right.”

Moreno is very skilled for his size, with a 7’1 wingspan and above average coordination, balance, and footwork for a player at his age and size. He continues to develop physically as an athlete, and is projected to be an impactful, versatile offensive player at the college level – especially if the outside shooting continues to develop.

Moreno is the highest rated recruit Pope has brought in during his few months as the head coach at Kentucky, joining 2024 recruits Trent Noah and Travis Perry who are both from the state as well.

BYU among top seven for 2025 star prospect AJ Dybantsa

The top high school basketball player in the country, AJ Dybantsa, included BYU in his top seven over Duke or Kentucky.

Star forward AJ Dybantsa, the consensus No. 1 player in the 2025 recruiting class, revealed the seven schools he is considering to ESPN on Friday morning.

The 6’9 wing, who will play his final high school season at Hurricane Prep in Utah, revealed a final seven of Alabama, Auburn, Baylor, BYU, Kansas, Kansas State, and North Carolina.

It’s not every year the top prospect in the sport considers BYU over Duke or Kentucky, but the Cougars are a legitimate player in the Dybantsa sweepstakes after establishing the program as a recruiting power under new coach Kevin Young.

Dybantsa has taken just one official visit so far, to Auburn, but he unofficially visited BYU and is planning to make a return visit in an official capacity.

Dybantsa’s size, athleticism, and natural scoring ability have many projecting him as a future NBA star, drawing comparisons to Paul George.

BYU doesn’t have any commits in the 2025 class as of now, but coach Young went to work adding some of the highest rated recruits in program history in 2024, including Purdue decommit Kanon Catchings, russian star guard Egor Demin, and former Stanford commit Elijah Crawford.

Arkansas secures commitment from 2025 5-star point guard

The five-star is the first member of Arkansas’ 2025 class.

One of the nation’s top uncommitted 2025 prospects has now officially made a decision as to where he will play college basketball, as highly-touted point guard Darius Acuff Jr. has committed to the Arkansas Razorbacks.

Acuff announced his commitment to Arkansas on Friday afternoon over two other finalists in the Kansas Jayhawks and Michigan Wolverines.

As mentioned previously, Acuff is one of the nation’s top overall prospects, considered as a five-star point guard out of IMG Academy in Florida. Acuff, the nation’s No. 8 overall player in the 2025 class according to the 247Sports Composite rankings, is also the top point guard in the country, as well as the No. 2 player in the state of Florida.

The commitment of Acuff is now the first in Arkansas’ 2025 recruiting class, which also makes the Razorbacks the lone SEC program to receive a five-star commitment so far this cycle.

Certainly a strong start for John Calipari’s 2025 class at Arkansas, just how good could this group end up being?

Ole Miss lands commitment from highly-rated four-star 2025 power forward

The Rebels now own the nation’s top-ranked 2025 recruiting class.

Head coach Chris Beard and the Ole Miss Rebels landed a significant piece to their 2025 recruiting class Friday, as highly-touted prospect Tylis Jordan officially committed to the program.

A Top 50 overall prospect in the cycle, Jordan is rated as the nation’s No. 43 overall player in the 2025 class according to the 247Sports Composite rankings, as well as the No. 14 power forward nationally. Jordan is also the No. 6 ranked player in the state of Georgia, where he attends Shiloh High School.

This past season as a junior, Jordan helped lead Shiloh to a 23-5 record in GHSA Class AAAAAA, averaging 21.3 PPG on 52% shooting from the field, as well as 10.3 RPG, 2.4 APG, 1.1 SPG, and 1.4 BPG.

With the commitment of Jordan, Ole Miss now holds the nation’s No. 1 overall recruiting class for the 2025 cycle. The four-star is now the highest-rated of that group as well, and joins Patton Pinkins, a four-star shooting guard out of Frenship High School in Texas, in that class.

Texas Tech adds four-star point guard to 2024-25 men’s basketball roster

Tech adds four-star point guard to 2024-25 men’s basketball roster.

Another huge win for head coach Grant McCasland and the Texas Tech Red Raiders happened on Tuesday. The team announced they have signed four-star point guard Christian Anderson Jr. The No. 10 point guard of the 2024 recruiting class recently decommitted from the Michigan Wolverines in late March.

Anderson becomes only the second high school recruit to join the Red Raiders. Leon Horner of Dynamic Prep in Dallas, Texas, was the other. The team has also added three transfers including former Minnesota point guard Elijah Hawkins, former Drake shooting guard Kevin Overton, and former Pittsburgh power forward Fede Federiko.

McCasland and the Red Raiders are coming off a 23-11 season, in which they finished fourth in the conference standings with a 11-7 Big 12 record. They were bounced in the first round of the 2024 NCAA Tournament by the Final Four-bound North Carolina State Wolfpack.

It is important for the team to load up in a loaded conference that welcomes perennial NCAA Tournament contending Arizona Wildcats to an already loaded Big 12 men’s basketball field.

The Red Raiders will participate in the 2024 Legends Classic with the Syracuse Orange, Texas Longhorns, and Saint Joseph’s Hawks in Brooklyn, New York. The event will take place on Nov. 21 and Nov. 22.

Dylan Harper, a 5-star guard, is set to announce

Five-star guard Dylan Harper is set to announce his college decision on Wednesday.

On Monday night, five-star guard Dylan Harper announced that he would be making his college commitment. Harper is the highest-ranked recruit in the nation who remains uncommitted.

He is a 6-foot-6, 210-pound guard from Don Bosco Prep (Ramsey, New Jersey).

The report from On3 on Monday said that Harper will be making a midweek announcement from a final five that includes Duke, Rutgers, Auburn, Kansas, and Indiana.

ESPN ranks Harper as the second-best player in the nation and he is a consensus five-star. He has taken official visits to Duke and Indiana as well as Rutgers. His visit to Rutgers in mid-October is his most recent trip.

Harper is the quintessential combo guard. He is strong on the dribble and can penetrate with excellent court vision. He is a fundamentally solid distributor of the basketball, can score in a variety of ways, rebound and is a high-level defender.

Blessed with good size and length, Harper can defend in the post or along the perimeter.

He is the son of former NBA standout Ron Harper and the brother of Toronto Raptors forward Ron Harper Jr., who played collegiately for Rutgers.

A shakeup at the top of the 2024 basketball recruiting classes for November

The Duke Blue Devils take over the top spot in the 2024 college basketball recruiting rankings in November.

The 2023-24 college basketball season is set to begin this month as the calendar has flipped over to November, welcoming in a new campaign after UConn cut down the nets last April.

As the season gets set to begin, there will be old faces in new places with the transfer portal but also the 2023 recruiting class will be on display as well.

But it’s never too early to start looking at the 2024 recruiting class, which will hit the court a year from now.

With the Summer over and recruiting picking up including commitments, the 2024 class rankings have seen a shakeup. There’s a new No. 1 team in the rankings going into November as Duke has taken over the top spot with the commitment of Cooper Flagg.

Duke has surpassed both North Carolina, who held the top spot for months, and Missouri who had a brief stay at the top with five commitments. The Blue Devils class should be sitting pretty in terms of a top 3 finish but will another team challenge them?

Let’s take a look at the full rankings via 247Sports as of November 2.
