Former LSU running back Clyde Edwards-Helaire had a quietly productive rookie season with 1,100 yards from scrimmage and five total touchdowns in just 13 games played.

Edwards-Helaire rushed for 830 yards while catching 36 passes for 297 yards.

But, his rookie season ended with a Super Bowl loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

The Kansas City Chiefs offense is as explsovie as any offense in the entire NFL, and Edwards-Helaire knows he can become a huge part of helping the offense become even that much more dangerous.

He wants to become a better receiver in 2021, and beyond.

“I’ve been working on my hands and catching.”

Edwards-Helaire said earlier this week, via Matt McMullen of the Kansas City Chiefs’ website.
“I wouldn’t say it was a problem last year, but just understanding our offense… we move the ball around and we spread the field, so why not work on something that I feel like I can improve on? That was one of my steps as far as improvement goes.”

The Chiefs offense will continue to be dominant with Andy Reid calling the plays and Patrick Mahomes behind center.

But if Edwards-Helaire can become more of a receiving threat out of the backfield or even moving around the field more, that could make this offense much more dangerous.

Fantasy Football: Can Clyde Edwards-Helaire be Andy Reid’s next great RB?

This time last year, former LSU running back Clyde Edwards-Helaire landed in the perfect spot, on one of the best offenses in football.

This time last year, former LSU running back Clyde Edwards-Helaire landed in the perfect spot, on one of the best offenses in football, in the Kansas City Cheifs.

As a rookie, Edwards-Helaire ran for 135 yards and a touchdown in his first NFL game and showed flashes of brilliance as the Chiefs’ featured running back through Week 6 of his rookie season.

When the Chiefs signed running back Le’Veon Bell, Edwards-Helaire’s role was greatly diminished. He averaged just 10.6 carries and 3.3 targets from Week 7 on compared to 17.8 carries and 5.2 targets in the first six weeks of the season prior to Bell’s arrival.

Fast forward to now as he enters his second season in the league. The Chiefs didn’t take a running back in the 2021 NFL Draft and both Damien Williams and Le’Veon Bell are no longer with the team.

From a fantasy football perspective, I expect a big season for CEH. He should be looking at positive regression in the touchdown column and also see more of a feature role in the offense, similar to what we saw at the start of his rookie campaign.

Clyde Edwards-Helaire has the skillset and offensive scheme opportunity to be a top-10 running back in 2021.

The NFL returned on Thursday night when the Super Bowl champion Kansas City Chiefs hosted the Houston Texans and one former LSU star stole the show.

Rookie running back Clyde Edwards-Helaire, the No. 32 overall pick in the 2020 NFL draft, received the start for the Chiefs and rushed for 138 yards on 25 attempts and one touchdown in his NFL debut.

On his first career NFL touchdown run that came early in the third quarter, Edwards-Helaire showed vision, speed and elusiveness.

And, what about that power?

It’s been quite a year for Edwards-Helaire. At this time last year, there were some who didn’t believe he was LSU’s best running back before he ended the season with over 1,400 yards rushing, 55 receptions and 17 touchdowns.

Now, Edwards-Helaire has a starring role in the NFL’s top offense.
