Shipley hurdles his way into the end zone extending Clemson’s lead

Will Shipley.

Clemson’s offense continues to perform against Louisville as the Tigers extended their lead behind a wild Will Shipley 25-yard touchdown run.

The Clemson offense went eight plays for 85 yards as starting quarterback DJ Uiagalelei continues to play better football than we’ve seen these past couple of weeks. This touchdown drive, however, was all about Will Shipley as his huge run extended the Tigers’ lead to 24-7.

Shipley has been the best player for this Clemson offense all season, and this touchdown is a highlight that does an excellent job of telling that story. The sophomore running back hurdled a defender before splitting two more and finding his way into the end zone.

Phil Mafah had a nice run 25-yard run gain to get the drive going. Here’s a look at Shipley’s fantastic run:

Halftime report: Clemson leads Louisville by two touchdowns

Swinney and the Tigers lead Louisville at the half.

Dabo Swinney and the Tigers had a solid first half as the team heads into the locker room with a 17-7 lead over Scott Satterfield and the Louisville Cardinals.

It has been a solid recovery game for Clemson so far, as Swinney’s team looks much improved from their 35-14 loss to Notre Dame last week. Though the first half wasn’t perfect, the Tigers have looked like the better team so far Saturday.

Starting quarterback DJ Uiagalelei has had a much-needed bounce back, completing 14-20 passes for 155 yards and a touchdown. He has been effective on the ground, taking nine carries for 28 yards and a touchdown. Freshman wide receiver Antonio Williams has been his top target, with six receptions for 59-yards and the last touchdown of the first half.

Starting running back Will Shipley has been good but hasn’t seen a full workload, as it looked like he got banged up on a pass block in the first half. Clemson’s defense has been solid but once again has struggled against the run.

Louisville will start the second half with the ball as they trail the Tigers by ten.

Clemson extends its lead to 10-0 thanks to B.T. Potter’s 19-yard field goal.

After a second drive that ended in the three and out, the Tigers tacked on their first field goal of the day thanks to a 19-yarder by kicker B.T. Potter.

Despite a big third drive for quarterback D.J, Uiagalelei who moved the sticks all the way down inside the red-zone, Clemson came away with its first field of the day, extending the lead to two-scores over Louisville.

The Tigers extended their lead thanks to a quick eight play drive for 66 yards in 3:10.

In the first drive of Saturday afternoon’s contest against Louisville, Clemson made it’s first trip of the day to the end zone all thanks to a clutch 11-yard rushing touchdown by D.J. Uiagalelei.

Uiagalelei opened up the scoring drive with two back-to-back runs for a combined 11 yards along. Despite a close-call on a loose ball on the first down that was later ruled an incomplete pass, the quarterback came up with three more receptions to Joseph Ngata, Jake Briningstool and Antonio Williams for a combined 41 yards.

In total, the drive lapsed 12 plays for 75 yards in 10:17.

DJ Uiagalelei puts Clemson up early over Louisville

Clemson’s offense gets off to a hot start behind DJ Uiagalelei.

Dabo Swinney and the Tigers got off to a hot start Saturday as DJ Uiagalelei marched the Tigers into the end zone to give Clemson an early 7-0 lead.

Clemson starting quarterback DJ Uiagalelei had an excellent recovery drive after struggling his past two games. He completed 3-5 passes for 41 yards while dominating on the ground. The junior quarterback took four first-drive carries for 25-yards with an 11-yard touchdown run.

This drive was a much-needed strong start for a Clemson offense that is coming off its worst performance of the 2022 season against Notre Dame.

Swinney and the Tigers lead Louisville 7-0 with 8:49 left in the first quarter.

Pregame Buzz: No. 10 Clemson vs. Louisville

Check out the pregame buzz on social media surrounding Saturday’s ACC matchup in Death Valley.

With kickoff just hours away, Clemson returns home to Memorial Stadium to welcome a talented Louisville team.

The Tigers enter Saturday’s 3:30 p.m. matchup following a devastating 35-14 loss in South Bend last weekend, where they were handed their first loss of the 2022 season.

Clemson quarterback D.J. Uiagalelei looks to regain his confidence following two back-to-back appearances where the second-year starter was benched for a period of the game.

On the defensive side, the Tigers struggled mightily in the loss to Notre Dame, noticeably struggling to win vital matchups and make big stops when needed most. Wes Goodwin’s defense also lost a big starter upfront in Xavier Thomas after the defensive end re-injured his foot in practice last week.

Despite its lone loss, Clemson hopes to remain perfect moving forward in its last three games of the regular season with hopes of making the return to the playoff stage this postseason.

Here’s a look at the pregame buzz surrounding the Tigers first of three in Death Valley versus Louisville on Twitter:

3 defensive keys for a Clemson win versus Louisville

Check out Clemson Wire’s 3 defensive keys for a Clemson win on Saturday against Louisville.

No. 12 Clemson (8-1, 6-0 ACC) moves into Week 11 playing host to Louisville for the first of the Tiger’s three remaining matchups of the regular season at Memorial Stadium.

Clemson enters Saturday’s contest after sustaining its first loss of the season last weekend at Notre Dame. The Tiger’s are in the hunt for their ninth win of the season with hopes of keeping their playoff goals alive through the last three games.

Despite a 6-3 record, Louisville comes into Saturday’s matchup having won four straight including three ACC wins against Virginia, Pittsburgh and Wake Forest. The Cardinals boast one of the best quarterbacks in the ACC in Malik Cunningham who will be a big challenge for Wes Goodwin’s defense.

Here are three defensive keys to a Clemson win at home versus Louisville.

Five Clemson players to keep an eye on vs. Louisville

After the brutal loss to Notre Dame, here are five Clemson players to watch closely during the Tigers’ game against Louisville.

Set to take on Louisville on Saturday at 3:30 p.m. ET, Clemson will have its hands full this weekend, and there are multiple Tigers that fans should watch closely.

Coming off a 21-point loss to Notre Dame last week, Clemson comes into this game with much on the line, as a loss will almost guarantee another season without a College Football Playoff (CFP) appearance.

As the Tigers’ coaching staff looks to rebound themselves, the players are also looking to have a bounce-back performance at home.

Winning the game will be no easy feat, however, as Louisville is on a four-game winning streak, the last two wins of which have come over Wake Forest and James Madison.

That said, here are five Clemson players to keep an eye on against the Cardinals.

Injuries keep coming as Clemson draws even with Louisville at the half

LOUISVILLE — Injuries loomed large, even as Clemson heads into the break all tied at 17 with Louisville.

At one point during the first half of Saturday’s game, Clemson lost four players to injuries. Clemson lost quarterback D.J. Uiagalelei for a period of time in the first half with what Clemson coach Dabo Swinney told the ACC Network was what he believed was a PCL sprain.

On a read option, Uiagalelei tried selling a fake and his leg gave out. The sophomore signal caller came up lame and was unable to complete the drive. Taisun Phommachanh came in to run a zone read with Uiagalelei out wide. While Phommachanh gained 26 yards, the play ended with Uiagalelei limping off the field.

Before exiting, Uiagalelei completed 4-of-6 passes for 69 yards, including a 46-yard touchdown pass to Beaux Collins on Clemson’s third offensive play.

As for Phommachanh, he threw an incompletion and rushed for 33 yards on three carries in his short-lived relief appearance. Uiagalelei returned for Clemson’s final drive of the second half and marched the offense down the field for a nine-play, 86-yard touchdown drive. Uiagalelei found Davis Allen for a 8-yard touchdown to tie the game at 17.

After returning, Uiagalelei finished the half 10 of 16 for 140 yards passing and two touchdowns.

Just before Uiagalelei’s second scoring toss, Louisville linebacker Jack Fagot was ejected for targeting for a hit on Will Shipley, which sent the true freshman running back to the locker room. His head appeared to bounce off the turf, and he was helped off the field by a member of the training staff.

Louisville came out firing on the game’s first drive, taking just six plays to kick off the scoring. Malik Cunningham completed 2-of-2 passes for 24 yards while he and Jalen Mitchell combined for 36 yards on four carries and a score. Mitchell had a 26-yard rushing touchdown to give the Cardinals a 7-0 lead, which came off the heels of a facemask penalty on Nolan Turner.

The Cardinals averaged 10 yards per play on a 75-yard drive, which took just under three minutes to execute.

Clemson turned over the ball yet again in the first half. After the teams traded two punts each and forced yet another, Clemson was getting the ball back. That was until Will Brown muffed a punt. Clemson’s lone turnover of the half was recovered by Louisville and led to points after Cunningham scampered for a 23-yard touchdown.

Needing to answer on the next drive, Louisville used some of its momentum and another poor special teams play from Clemson to force a quick three-and-out.

As Louisville was driving down the field, Andrew Booth came down low to make a tackle. It appeared the junior cornerback took a knee to the head as he tackled Trevion Cooley for a 1-yard loss. Clemson players immediately signaled to the training staff that Booth was in need of assistance. He walked off the field with help from Clemson’s trainers.

Clemson’s defense forced a stop with Booth sidelined, but Louisville kicker James Turner converted on a 44-yard field goal to give the Cardinals a 17-7 lead.

The injuries didn’t stop with Uiagalelei, Shipley and Booth. After catching a 5-yard pass on Clemson’s final offensive drive of the half, running back Kobe Pace was sandwiched between two Louisville defenders and went down in a heap. Pace had to be helped to the locker room.

As the Tigers headed into the locker room, they totaled 211 yards of total offense. Louisville had 167 total yards of offense with 100 of those coming on the ground.

Clemson will receive the second-half opening kickoff.

A Clemson target in the 2024 class will be at Saturday night’s game in Louisville.

He’ll be in attendance with a large contingent of his high school teammates from St. John Bosco (Bellflower, Calif.) – the same school that produced Clemson sophomore quarterback D.J. Uiagalelei, as well as freshman wide receiver Beaux Collins.

Four-star safety Peyton Woodyard, who owns an offer from Louisville, made his way down to Kentucky for Saturday’s marquee conference matchup at Cardinal Stadium.

Woodyard reported an offer from Lousiville back on Sunday, Oct. 31. He has already racked up upwards of 20 offers, including those from schools such as Alabama, Georgia, Notre Dame, Oklahoma, Ohio State, Michigan, Southern Cal, Arizona State, Florida State and Penn State.

He’s still holding out for that coveted Clemson offer and had this to say about the Tigers last month:

“I haven’t heard anything from them, but I know they’re looking,” Woodyard told The Clemson Insider recently. “Coach Venables follows me on Twitter. I haven’t been able to talk to him ever since I’ve been up there, since this past summer. I definitely want to get back up there after this season and go on a visit.”

He’s ranked by 247Sports as the No. 2 safety and No. 20 overall prospect in the 2024 class regardless of position.
