Duke signee Isaiah Evans ranked as Charlotte’s best high school men’s player in 40 years

The Charlotte Observer considers Duke signee Isaiah Evans, the two-time North Carolina Mr. Basketball winner, the city’s best high school player from the last four decades

The Charlotte area hasn’t seen many players like Duke signee Isaiah Evans. In fact, according to the Charlotte Observer’s Langston Wertz Jr., there hasn’t been a better men’s high school basketball player from the city in four decades.

Evans, the No. 12 player in the Class of 2024 according to 247Sports, led North Mecklenburg to a state title as a senior after the Vikings finished with a 30-3 record. He was recently named North Carolina’s Mr. Basketball for a second straight season.

Evans, who was also named the Gatorade North Carolina Boys Basketball Player of the Year, averaged 27.5 points, 6.3 rebounds, 3.0 assists, and 2.4 steals per game. He was honored as a MaxPreps First-Team All-American alongside future teammate Cooper Flagg.

The future Blue Devil should quickly endear himself to the Cameron Crazies. He’s already gone viral for jawing at UNC fans at one of his high school games, and he cracked a joke about Tar Heels starter Cormac Ryan’s age during media availability ahead of the McDonald’s All-American Game.

Cooper Flagg says 2024-25 Duke team has ‘the chance to do something really special’

With the No. 1 overall recruit and three other five-stars coming to Durham next season, 2024-25 could be a special year in Cooper Flagg’s eyes.

The 2024-25 Duke basketball season has a chance to be memorable, according to the Blue Devils top signee Cooper Flagg.

In an article from USA TODAY Sports’ Kristian Dyer, the top overall recruit in the Class of 2024 talked about the expectations that will follow him and Duke’s No. 1 recruiting class to Durham next year.

The Blue Devils lost the last game of the regular season and their first game of the ACC Tournament this season before a run to the Elite Eight included taking down top-seeded Houston.

However, Duke lost to 11-seed NC State on Sunday, and while a trip to the Elite Eight is plenty for most programs, a fanbase with five national titles is always hungry for a sixth.

Flagg said the Sunday loss to the Wolfpack didn’t change how he feels about next season.

“We haven’t been there,” Flagg said. “So I think once you get there, like you said, get acclimated, I think we have the chance to do something really special.”

Fellow five-star Duke signee Isaiah Evans echoed Flagg’s sentiment.

“I don’t really feel pressure from this year’s team,” Evans said. “I think that we’re going to create our own journey.”

2024 prospect LeVar Talley leaves Boulder impressed

Class of 2024 edge LeVar Talley visited Colorado over the weekend

The culture change around the Colorado Buffaloes football program is evident. Karl Dorrell’s new coaching staff is making moves and Mike Sanford and others have shared some encouraging thoughts.

In turn, CU has landed quite a few big-name recruits from the class of 2023, and now, the Buffs had a visit with 2024 edge prospect LeVar Talley, according to Adam Munsterteiger of 247Sports.

Talley has already received offers from Florida State, Georgia, Louisville, Pittsburgh, Virginia Tech and USC, but after his visit to Boulder, he left impressed (h/t BuffStampede).

“I did a tour and went to their spring game. It was real good. I loved the energy. It was a real good experience out here.”

Talley then took time to give the Buffs and some coaches a shoutout on Twitter, and that bodes well for Colorado moving forward.

The 6-foot-3 linebacker also visited USC and UCLA recently and is expected to head to Georgia and Florida State on visits, so the list of suitors is a long one and should continue to grow as time passes by.

But, all in all, Colorado being listed among these top-tier programs is terrific news for Dorrell and company, even if they don’t end up landing Talley.
