WATCH: Vikings FB CJ Ham blocks 49ers’ punt during the first quarter

On the second drive of the game for the 49ers, CJ Ham came through in a major way for the Vikings.

The Vikings have a tall task ahead of them by hosting the San Francisco 49ers on Sunday. The 49ers  and Vikings offenses haven’t been too electric to start the game, but so far, Minnesota is the team making the big play(s).

On the 49ers’ second possession of the game, the Vikings’ defense held San Francisco to a punt attempt. Minnesota fullback CJ Ham got through the right part of the offensive line and came through for a major block. It marked the first time the Vikings blocked and recovered a punt since Sept. 8, 2019, against Atlanta.

The Vikings’ offense would move the football into the 49ers’ territory and get into the red zone, but Sam Darnold wasn’t able to connect for a touchdown on third down. Minnesota would settle for a 22-yard field goal by rookie Wil Reichard.

The Vikings are leading the 49ers 3-0 late into the first quarter. So far, the Vikings are looking like the team that wants to win the game. Minnesota will need more game-changing plays as the game progresses to beat a team like the 49ers.

30 days until Vikings season opener: Every player to wear No. 30

It’s the final countdown…

Well, sort of.

The Minnesota Vikings will kick off their 2023 regular season in 30 days at home against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Sept. 10.

From now until then, we will take a trip down memory lane and count each day by revisiting the players that have worn that specific jersey number.

Fullback C.J. Ham currently wears No. 30 for the Minnesota Vikings and has worn it since 2017.

With 30 days until kickoff, here’s a look at every player to wear No. 30 with the Vikings (via Pro Football Reference):

Vikings’ 2022 season in review: assessing the play of Minnesota’s running backs

Dalvin Cook’s production in the #Vikings’ offense was a major of the team’s success in 2022, but his cap number could present issues in 2023

In a season where everything seemed to go right for the Minnesota Vikings until they started competing in the playoffs, the team’s running game was a key part of their success through the regular season. With the help of star running back Dalvin Cook’s outstanding production, the Vikings’ offense was buoyed by no less than 18 rushing touchdowns on the year, which helped lift the team to a 13-4 finish in the regular season.

But with the offseason fast approaching and decisions to be made on both sides of the ball to get Minnesota under the NFL’s salary cap, they may need to make some sacrifices that could put their ability to replicate their outstanding performance on the ground in jeopardy.

Here is a look back at what the Vikings’ running backs accomplished this year, and what the team may decide to do at the position in the coming months:

Head Coach Kevin O’Connell names Vikings 2022 captains

Led by QB1, the Minnesota Vikings named their captains on Monday

Each year, the players vote on the captains for the team and on Monday, head coach Kevin O’Connell announced who the Vikings captains will be for 2022.

Of the eight captains, four of them are from the offense, three on defense and one on special teams. The cast remains mostly unchanged with Eric Kendricks getting named a defensive captain for the first time, replacing Anthony Barr. The other captains are the same from last season.

Offense

  • Kirk Cousins
  • Dalvin Cook
  • Adam Thielen
  • Brian O’Neill

Defense

  • Patrick Peterson
  • Harrison Smith
  • Eric Kendricks

Special Teams

  • C.J. Ham

The Vikings having a consistent leadership presence in the locker room is incredibly valuable and will be a massive benefit for the beginning of the new regime.
