NEW: Liberty WR transfer CJ Daniels commits to LSU

CJ Daniels is now officially committed to playing for the LSU Tigers next season.

There were a lot of reports on Saturday that [autotag]CJ Daniels[/autotag] would be transferring from Liberty to LSU. Nothing official has been released until now.

On Sunday, Daniels officially committed to playing for the LSU Tigers next season.

Daniels is a great pickup for [autotag]Garrett Nussmeier[/autotag] and the LSU offense. He was the leading receiver for the Flames last season and played in 14 games while making 55 receptions for 1,067 yards and 10 touchdowns. The 6-foot-2, 200-pound wide receiver from Lilburn, Georgia, was a junior, so he will have one year of eligibility remaining.

Daniels joins a wide receiver room with [autotag]Aaron Anderson[/autotag], [autotag]Kyren Lacy[/autotag], [autotag]Shelton Sampson[/autotag], [autotag]Kyle Parker[/autotag] and [autotag]Chris Hilton Jr.[/autotag] There should be a lot of opportunities for him to make a big impact for the Tigers next fall.

The only question remaining is, who will the offensive coordinator be? When [autotag]Brian Kelly[/autotag] names the new offensive coordinator, we will know a lot more about the type of offense LSU will run.

Report: LSU lands Liberty receiver transfer CJ Daniels

CJ Daniels, who had a 1,000-yard season with the Flames in 2023, is expected to commit to LSU according to 247Sports’ Matt Zenitz.

After what seems to have been a successful visit to Baton Rouge, LSU is expected to land Liberty receiver transfer [autotag]CJ Daniels[/autotag]. The news was first reported by Matt Zenitz of 247Sports.

A native of Lilburn, Georgia, Daniels is coming off a 1,000-yard campaign in 2023 after injuries shortened his 2022 season. He’s one of the top receivers available in the portal, and he’ll provide a major boost to a room that’s set to lose both [autotag]Malik Nabers[/autotag] and [autotag]Brian Thomas Jr.[/autotag] to the NFL draft.

Daniels had 55 catches for 1,067 yards and 10 touchdowns this season, and in four years in Lynchburg, he has 106 catches for 1,954 yards and 21 receiving touchdowns.

If Daniels ultimately commits, the Tigers will have landed two receivers so far in the portal after Mississippi State’s [autotag]Zavion Thomas[/autotag] committed earlier in the cycle.

NEW: LSU picks up Crystal Ball prediction for talented transfer receiver

The Tigers could be on the cusp of landing one of the top wideouts in the portal.

LSU is looking to bulk up its receiver room in the transfer portal with [autotag]Malik Nabers[/autotag] and [autotag]Brian Thomas Jr.[/autotag] off to the NFL, and on Saturday, it received a prediction for one of the best wideouts on the market.

The Tigers are hosting Liberty transfer [autotag]CJ Daniels[/autotag] for a visit this weekend, and it seems that visit may have already made an impact. They received three Crystal Ball predictions on Saturday morning to land Daniels, per 247Sports, including one from national analyst Chris Hummer.

A native of Lilburn, Georgia, Daniels is coming off a 1,000-yard season with the Flames. Texas, Miami and Florida are other teams in the mix, but LSU will hope it can lock things up this weekend.

LSU has already landed one transfer receiver in the cycle in Zavion Thomas, who comes in from Mississippi State.

LSU hosting pair of key prospects for visits this weekend

The Tigers aren’t done trying to add talent to the 2024 roster.

Though the early signing period and initial rush of the transfer portal are now in the rearview, LSU is a long way from finishing off its 2024 roster.

The Tigers are playing host to a pair of key visitors this weekend, headlined by five-star defensive line commit [autotag]Dominick McKinley[/autotag]. The No. 1 prospect in the state of Louisiana, the Tigers flipped McKinley away from Texas A&M on New Year’s Eve.

He won’t sign until February, but they’ll look to lock things up with him on his visit this weekend.

Also in town will be Liberty receiver transfer [autotag]CJ Daniels[/autotag], who is coming off a 1,000-yard season with the Flames. Daniels is one of the most sought-after players in the portal with offers from a number of top programs.

It will certainly be a busy weekend as the Tigers hope to secure two of their top roster targets.

Report: LSU to host star Liberty receiver transfer this weekend

CJ Daniels was a 1,000-yard receiver for Liberty in 2023.

While coach [autotag]Brian Kelly[/autotag] and LSU have made it clear that they don’t intend to be as active in the transfer portal this offseason as they have the last two years, the Tigers have still landed a few impact players and could be in the market for more.

According to a report from 247Sports’ Bryce Koon, LSU is playing host to Liberty receiver transfer [autotag]CJ Daniels[/autotag] this weekend. A junior who hails from one of LSU’s primary out-of-state recruiting grounds of Parkview High School in Lilburn, Georgia, Daniels is coming off a 1,000-yard season that saw him catch 10 touchdown passes.

He was limited by injuries in 2022 and played in just four games, but in his last full season in 2021, he ranked second among Flames wideouts with 629 yards as a redshirt freshman.

With LSU set to lose both [autotag]Malik Nabers[/autotag] and [autotag]Brian Thomas Jr.[/autotag], some help at receiver would certainly be welcome. The team has also already landed a receiver transfer with SEC experience in Mississippi State’s [autotag]Zavion Thomas[/autotag].

Report: Liberty WR CJ Daniels expected to visit Oregon soon

The Oregon Ducks are expected to host Liberty Flames WR CJ Daniels on a visit in the coming days.

With the dead period ending in the transfer portal world, the Oregon Ducks are back to recruiting at a high level as they look to improve their roster going into the 2024 season.

While the Ducks hosted former Texas A&M wide receiver Evan Stewart — the No. 2 overall player in the transfer portal —  for an official visit over the weekend, there are reports now coming out that they are expected to hold Liberty Flames receiver CJ Daniels on a visit this coming week as well.

The Ducks got a good look at Daniels last week in the Fiesta Bowl, where the Liberty WR hauled in 8 catches for 79 yards. On the season, Daniels had 55 catches for 1,067 yards and 10 touchdowns. 2023 was by far Daniels’ best season, but the 6-foot-1, 195-pound receiver has 106 catches for 1,956 yards and 21 touchdowns in his four-year career.

Going forward, Daniels has two years of eligibility remaining.

Liberty WR CJ Daniels enjoys ‘a great visit’ to Auburn

CJ Daniels played for Hugh Freeze at Liberty and the Tigers are hoping for a reunion on the Plains.

[autotag]Hugh Freeze[/autotag] hosted a familiar face Friday when Liberty wide receiver transfer [autotag]CJ Daniels[/autotag] took his visit to the Plains.

Daniels entered the portal on Thursday and immediately became one of the top wide receivers available after leading the Flames with 55 catches for 1,067 yards and 10 touchdowns.

With his connection to Freeze and Auburn’s need at wide receiver, it was a no-brainer for the Georgia native to visit the Plains.

“You know, it was definitely a great visit,” Daniels told On3’s Cole Pinkston. “It was great to see familiar faces. It was a great visit overall.”

Auburn has already landed two wide receivers from the transfer portal but they are not done looking for help and the 6-foot-2, 200-pounder could provide a major boost for Auburn’s offense.

“They said it was a big need,” Daniels said. “Coach Freeze said he wouldn’t contact me if he didn’t need me. He said I can come in and be impactful.”
