Celtics co-owner Wyc Grousbeck’s Cincoro Tequila to release new luxury blend

Cincoro Gold, the fifth blend offered by the company, will retail at a hefty $349.99 per bottle this October in limited qualities.

Those of us who are in the sweet spot of the Venn diagram of where fans of the Boston Celtics and high-end tequila overlap have reason to celebrate. Cincoro Tequila, co-owned by Celtics lead Governor Wyc Grousbeck and Emilia Fazzalari with Michael Jordan, Jeannie Buss, and Wes Edens of the Charlotte Hornets, Los Angeles Lakers, and Milwaukee Bucks respectively, has released a new luxury tequila blend.

Cincoro Gold, the fifth blend offered by the company, will retail at a hefty $349.99 per bottle this October in limited qualities. With a price tag like that, a bottle of what Jordan is framing as “the world’s finest tequila” will probably be a bit more than most of us will be picking up to bring home for a casual sip.

But it’s also clear that Cincoro is aiming for something above casual consumption for this particular blend in a fastly-growing high-end tequila market (h/t Brandon “Scoop B” Robinson).

Celtics gov Wyc Grousbeck’s Cincoro tequila to release bottle celebrating Bucks’ 2021 title

The company is co-owned with members of the Milwaukee brass and two other ownership groups.

Boston Celtics lead owner Wyc Grousbeck’s Cincoro tequila brand is releasing a special edition tequila bottle commemorating the Milwaukee Bucks’ 2021 NBA Finals win.

And if you happen to be confused why the owner of the Celtics would be involved in such a venture, it is because he co-owns the brand with Emilia Fazzalari, Bucks co-owner Wes Edens, Los Angeles Lakers owner Jeannie Buss and Charlotte Hornets owner Michael Jordan. The celebratory bottle is hand-engraved with the words “History Made,” a nod to the Bucks’ mantra for the season, “History in the Making.”

The 2021 NBA Trophy Bottle will be available for purchase on the Cincoro website while supplies last, not that we expect too many Celtics fans to be interested in the bottle over its contents given the context.

The adult beverage MJ sipped in ‘The Last Dance’? Wyc helped make it

Boston Celtics lead governor Wyc Grousbeck co-founded the tequila company that distilled the beverage Michael Jordan samples in ‘The Last Dance’.

More than a few viewers of the ESPN Michael Jordan documentary “The Last Dance” noticed His Airness getting into some sort of potent potable in several segments of the series which aired for the first time on Sunday evening.

And if you wondered what it was MJ was sipping, it has a connection to the same team that beat him in Game 2 of the first round of the 1986 East NBA Playoffs despite his historic 63-point game.

The drink? His Cincoro tequila. The connection? Boston Celtics owner Wyc Grousbeck.

The Boston Basketball Partners L.L.C. lead Governor forged a bond with the legendary Chicago Bulls player and now-Charlotte Hornets majority team owner Jordan and several other partners over dinner that would eventually lead them to start a tequila company together.

Along with Los Angeles Lakers co-owner Jeanie Buss, Milwaukee Bucks co-owner Wes Edens and Grousbeck’s then-fiancée Emilia Fazzalari, a high-end tequila corporation was born — for more on its history, check out the Celtics Wire’s coverage of the foundation of Cincoro here.
