Incoming UNC five-star freshman Ciera Toomey named Miss Pennsylvania.

Incoming UNC five-star freshman [autotag]Ciera Toomey[/autotag] has been named Miss Pennsylvania Basketball for 2023.

The five-star recruit out of Dunmore, Pennsylvania, adds the title of Miss Pennsylvania to her long list of accolades, recently named the Player of the Year in Class 3A. In a story picked up by Yahoo News, Toomey explained why being named Miss Pennsylvania meant a lot to her.

“This is definitely at the top of the list because winning the player of the year in 3A, that’s only for one class. To get something like this where all girls in the state are nominated, it just means a lot.”

Toomey is one of the most exciting recruits in the nation, ranking 4th in the espnW 2023 HoopGurlz recruiting rankings. Toomey joins a thriving UNC program, who has built a new identity after Courtney Banghart.

Toomey will likely see the court a lot in her freshman campaign and is expected to be a key contributor for years to come.

UNCWBB incoming freshman selected as 3A state player of the year

Future North Carolina Tar Heel Ciera Toomey has been selected as 3A state player of the year.

As the North Carolina Tar Heels are enjoying their offseason, many incoming players, including [autotag]Ciera Toomey[/autotag], are earning high accolades.

The five-star recruit out of Dunmore, Pennsylvania, was awarded Player of the Year in Class 3A, an honor the Pennsylvania Sports Writers voted on. The honor stems from a historic tournament run where Toomey led the Dunmore Bucks to a championship.

According to NEPASportsNation, the championship win ended a 24-year drought by District 2 girls’ basketball teams at the Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association Championships. Toomey received the award alongside her mother, Carrie Toomey, who earned Coach of the Year in Class 3A.

The most notable thing about Toomeys’ tournament run is that she was expected to be out her entire senior season to rehab from reconstructive knee surgery. Instead, Toomey added to her high school legacy while giving UNC fans a glimpse of what was coming.

Courtney Banghart, UNC beat out UCONN for top recruit

Courtney Banghart and the UNC Women’s Basketball program just landed a big five-star recruit in the 2023 class.

The UNC women’s basketball team is coming off their best season in years, making it to the Sweet 16 before falling to eventual champion South Carolina. And now this offseason, the program took another step forward.

On Monday night, UNC landed a commitment from five-star post player [autotag]Ciera Toomey[/autotag]. The 6-foot-3, stretch five picked the Tar Heels over UCONN and six other schools, announcing her decision via Twitter.

Toomey is a five-star recruit that is the top player at her position and the No. 3 overall player in the 2023 class. Landing a player of this caliber is huge for the program, especially coming off a good 2022 recruiting cycle as well.

The job that Banghart has done in her time at UNC has been incredible, especially with where the program was at when she took over. A trip to the Sweet 16 is a heck of a start and now she’s getting it done on the recruiting trail as well.
