Which Boston Celtics alum is the NBA’s biggest career earner from Orlando, Florida? This city is a tough one simply because neither Celtics alum in the top five are very well known by most Boston fans of today. The player in question is also a short-timer, playing for the Celtics for just 24 games several seasons before Banner 17 was hung.

If you are still struggling to pin down who it might be, it is Chucky Atkins and his $34,191,455 in career earnings. He might lose that spot to Paul Reed when the big man signs his next deal, but at $11,632,730, he’s currently in second place.

The drop-off from here is steep with Jason Preston ($2,941,101) and Brice Sensabaugh ($2,448,600) just cutting their teeth in the league, and Boston alum Christapher Johnson ($2,437,322) out of the league for some time now.

On this day: Celtics trade for Isaiah Thomas; trade for Atkins, Hunter

On this day in Celtics history, the team dealt for IT, and nine years before that, for Chucky Atkins and Lindsey Hunter.

On this day in Boston Celtics history, the team traded forward Tayshaun Prince to the Detroit Pistons in 2015 in exchange for power forward Jonas Jerebko and small forward GiGi Datome. As part of the deal, the Celtics also sent guard Marcus Thornton to the Phoenix Suns. In turn, the Suns sent a young point guard fighting for playing time in their crowded backcourt rotation to the Celtics in exchange for Thornton’s services.

That floor general was none other than the future King in the Fourth, Isaiah Thomas, who was unhappy about having to compete with fellow Phoenix guards Goran Dragic and Eric Bledsoe to get on the court with the Suns.

IT carved out a starting role quickly with his new team, eventually becoming a part of Celtics lore himself with multiple deep playoff runs with the franchise.

Every player in Boston Celtics history who wore No. 7

Today’s installment focuses on the 20 players who wore No. 7 over the years as of September 2023.

The Boston Celtics have more retired jerseys than any other team in the NBA, but that doesn’t mean the rest of their jerseys have little history of interest tied to them.

In fact, with 17 titles to their name and decades of competitive basketball played in them, their unretired jersey numbers pack in some of the most history not hanging from the rafters of any team in the league. To that end, we have launched our accounting of that history, with every player in every jersey worn by more than one Celtics player in the storied franchise’s history accounted for.

Today’s installment focuses on the 20 players who wore No. 7 over the years as of September 2023.

On this day: Barros signed; Atkins, Brickowski, Roberts Kabengele born; Garfinkle passes

On this day, the Boston Celtics signed point guard Dana Barros, and Chucky Atkins, Frank Brickowski, and Fred Roberts were born, and Jack Garfinkle passed away.

On this day in Boston Celtics history, point guard Dana Barros signed with the team in 2004 as an unrestricted free agent in what would be the last, very brief stop of a 14-season career. It would be Barros’ second stint with the Celtics, having previously played five seasons for Boston between 1995 and 2000.

A product of Boston College, Barros was a local guy who was born in Boston in 1967. Drafted with the 16th overall pick of the 1989 NBA draft by the Seattle Supersonics, Barros would play for that team and the Philadelphia 76ers before joining the Celtics in 1995 and would be dealt to the Dallas Mavericks in a massive, four-team deal in 2000.

He would be dealt yet again to the Detroit Pistons two months later.

On this day: Gary Payton Sr. traded to Boston Celtics for Chris Mihm, Jumaine Jones, and Chucky Atkins

On this day in Boston Celtics history, future Hall of Famer Gary Payton, Sr. was traded to the team.

On this day in Boston Celtics history, former Celtics point guard Gary Dwayne Payton Sr. was traded to the team with one-time Boston draft pick Rick Fox.

In return, the Los Angeles Lakers — Payton’s team at the time — sent back big man Chris Mihm, small forward Jumaine Jones, and point guard Chucky Atkins in the trade. The Glove — as he was often called — was not thrilled about being dealt to the Celtics, and his reticence to join the team would require the trade to be amended after Payton initially refused to report for his physical. The physical had been part of the original deal, as was guard Marcus Banks.

Boston also got out of having to send out a second-round draft pick as part of the renegotiated deal.

11 Boston Celtics alumni changing places in redraft of NBA’s 1996 class

Let’s take a look at which Celtics alumni landed where.

As Hoops Hype’s staff keep themselves busy reassessing the draft orders of the last few decades over the years, there are always a fair number of Boston Celtics alumni making moves in their re-drafts as a result.

In the H/H reassessment of the 1996 NBA draft class, a total of 11 Boston alumni ended up seeing their draft stock shift with the benefit of hindsight lifting their fortunes. And while they won’t see any pay raises or anything else of that sort given the fictitious nature of such an exercise, it’s also nice to see this group get their flowers, too.
