Two Vols have earned USA Baseball Collegiate National Team invites.

Pitcher Drew Beam and second baseman Christian Moore will travel to the USA Baseball National Training Complex in Cary, North Carolina.

The two sophomores are the 27th and 28th Tennessee players in program history to be invited for workouts.

Beam made the team in 2022 and is the first Vol since J.P. Arencibia to be invited multiple times. Araencibia was invited to workouts from 2005-06.

Beam (9-4) made 17 starts in 2023, recording 88 strikeouts in 84.1 innings pitched.

Moore recorded a .700 batting average in the NCAA Tournament Clemson Regional and was voted most valuable player.

He appeared in 51 games, including 29 starts, for the Vols as a freshman in 2022, recording a .305  batting average, 10 home runs, 36 RBIs, 30 runs, 27 walks and one stolen base.

Tennessee won the SEC regular-season and tournament championships in 2022.

The Vols were ranked No. 1 in the USA TODAY Sports baseball coaches poll for 10 consecutive weeks (March 28-May 30) in 2022.

Ahead of the NCAA Tournament Hattiesburg Super Regional, Moore has appeared in 57 games, including 55 starts, in 2023. Moore has recorded a .321 batting average, 17 home runs, 48 RBIs, 63 runs, 49 walks and 15 stolen bases in 2023.

The 6-foot-1, 210-pound Moore came to Tennessee from Suffield Academy in Suffield, Connecticut. He is from Brooklyn, New York.

Boston College (9-1) defeated No. 2 Tennessee (11-3), 7-6, in 10 innings Tuesday at Lindsey Nelson Stadium.

The victory was the ninth consecutive win for the Eagles, while Tennessee’s 11-game winning streak ended.

Boston College led, 1-0, in the third inning. The Vols scored three runs in the third inning as Maui Ahuna and Christian Moore recorded RBI singles, while Blake Burke hit a sacrifice fly.

Moore went 3-for-5 with one home run, three RBIs and a stolen base. His home run tied the game, 6-6, in the ninth inning.

Moore also drove in a run in the seventh inning on a scoring single. The Vols would add another run in the eighth inning on an RBI single by Griffin Merritt.

No. 2 Tennessee (9-2) defeated Gonzaga (1-8), 8-2, Friday at Lindsey Nelson Stadium.

Friday’s contest is the first of a three-game series.

Game No. 2 is scheduled for 6 p.m. EST on Saturday, while Sunday’s series finale is slated for 1 p.m. EST.

Both games can be watched on SEC Network+. Roger Hoover (play-by-play) and Cody Hawn (analyst) will be on the call.

Friday’s win is the Vols’ ninth consecutive.

Second baseman Christian Moore went 1-for-4 in Friday’s contest for Tennessee, recording one home run, two RBIs, two runs and one walk.

Moore started in left field Friday against the Wareham Gatemen. He went 0-1, recording four walks and one run, in Hyannis’ 6-1 win.

Friday’s contest was Moore’s seventh during the 2022 Cape Cod Baseball League season.
