Texans find replacement for WR Diontae Johnson before Chiefs game

The Houston Texans have found their replacement for WR Diontae Johnson before Chiefs game

Jared Wayne is getting called up.

The Houston Texans have added Wayne from the practice squad to the active roster ahead of their divisional round against the Kansas City Chiefs on Saturday.

He’ll replace Diontae Johnson, who was waived after two games after being claimed off waivers from the Baltimore Ravens ahead of a postseason run.

In place of Wayne on the practice squad, the Texans signed former Cincinnati Bengals receiver Alex Erickson.

Wayne, a former undrafted free agent from Pitt, played in three games this season, primarily on special teams, with no targets or catches. He was last active against the Chiefs in Week 17’s 27-19 loss at Arrowhead Stadium.

Johnson, who was expected to compete for the No. 2 job after his demise in Baltimore, caught one pass in a playoff win for 12 yards. It was his only target and he played 16 snaps on offense for 22 percent of the playing time.

After the game during the open locker room session for interviews,  Johnson was seen visibly upset sitting in his locker. He seemed frustrated because of a lack of playing time and targets.

Running back Joe Mixon and linebacker Azeez Al-Shaair tried to comfort and encourage him. Two days later, he was waived.

“Diontae, unfortunately it didn’t work out,” Texans coach DeMeco Ryans said, “And we are on to the Chiefs.”

Kickoff from Arrowhead is scheduled for 3:30 p.m. CT. The game will be nationally televised on ESPN and ABC.

A cold day in Kansas City? Not so far for Texans in divisional round

A cold day in Kansas City? Perhaps that’s not in the cards for the Houston Texans next weekend at Arrowhead Stadium.

Usually, weather is a factor in the divisional round for the Kansas City Chiefs.

Windchill can drop down into the low 20s. Snow comes in droves, leaving the opponent lost for words in the wilderness.

That isn’t the case for the Houston Texans, who are playing at Arrowhead Stadium this season for a chance to play in the conference championship.
Kansas City expects temperatures to dip into the low teens on Tuesday, but by the time the two AFC rosters kick off at 3:30 p.m. CT, the forecast should be hovering around 30 degrees with a 10% chance of precipitation.

The last time Houston played against Kansas City, the weather was mirrored. Around kickoff, it was about 35 degrees, but all clear skies as the Chiefs secured a 27-19 win.

The weather should bode well for Houston compared to the Miami Dolphins and Buffalo Bills from a season ago. In the wild-card round, it was 4-below at kickoff in Tyreek Hill’s return.

A week later, the weather was around 23 degrees for a date with Josh Allen and the AFC East champions.

Houston, which secured a 32-12 win over the Los Angeles Chargers in the wild-card round, looks to advance to its first conference championship against the winner of Buffalo-Baltimore.

NFL announces date and time of Texans’ divisional round game vs. Chiefs

The Houston Texans are heading back to Arrowhead Stadium and will start off the next round of the playoffs.

Another week, another early kick for the Houston Texans.

Houston, which secured a 32-12 win over the Los Angeles Chargers in the opening game of the wild-card round, once again will lead off the divisional round against the Kansas City Chiefs at Arrowhead Stadium.

Kickoff on Saturday is scheduled for 3:30 p.m. CT/4:30 p.m. ET. The game will be nationally televised on ABC and ESPN.

Joe Buck (play-by-play), Troy Aikman (analyst) and Lisa Salters (sideline reporter) will be on the call.

Buffalo’s 31-7 victory over Denver on Sunday sent Houston to Arrowhead Stadium to take on the top-seeded Chiefs. The Texans, which picked off Chargers Justin Herbert four times, were the No. 4 seed after winning the AFC South, making them the lowest seed remaining.

Should the Texans pull off the upset over Patrick Mahomes and the top-seeded Chiefs, they’ll travel to take on the winner of Buffalo and Baltimore in two weeks for a shot at the Super Bowl.

It is the same final four for the AFC as last season, though Kansas City played Buffalo while the Ravens hosted the Texans. This also marks the first time a repeat of the team since 2011-12 when it was the Patriots, Ravens, Broncos, and Texans.

Houston will have a chance to avenge a 27-19 loss and honor a fallen teammate. Wide receiver Tank Dell was lost for the season after being carted off during the third quarter with a knee injury.

And let’s not forget what happened the last time the Texans played Kansas City in the postseason. The Texans took a 24-0 lead only to allow the Chiefs 28 points in the second quarter, resulting in a 51-31 eventual victory.

Houston (11-7) enters next weekend’s showdown as an 8-point road underdog against Kansas City (15-2), according to odds from BetMGM. The over/under is currently set at 42, while the money line is at +340.

With a win, Houston would advance to its first-ever conference championship game.

No. 2 Buffalo will host No. 3 Baltimore for a chance to face off against the Texans or Chiefs at 5:30 p.m. on Sunday on CBS.

Three bets and one parlay to make in the Eagles-Chiefs game

The Philadelphia Eagles (8-1) take on the Kansas City Chiefs (7-2) in a primetime Super Bowl rematch showdown on Monday night.

The Philadelphia Eagles (8-1) take on the Kansas City Chiefs (7-2) in a primetime Super Bowl rematch showdown on Monday night. Besides the many storylines surrounding this game all week, this may be quite a fun game to bet on since both teams are atop the NFL right now.

BetMGM has the Chiefs winning the game at (-150) odds, while the Eagles are (+125) underdogs. Check out great bets and a parlay ahead of the primetime matchup.

T. Kelce Anytime TD

I think even with Taylor Swift not at the game, Kelce is still going to find a way to score. This bet almost feels like a lock for the Chiefs each week, but particularly against their Super Bowl rival, Kelce is going to find the end zone at some point.

D. Smith Anytime TD

Because A.J. Brown thrived lately, the Chiefs are going to be scheming against stopping him. While Brown is (potentially) locked down, Hurts will have to look to his other unstoppable wide receiver, DeVonta Smith, for a touchdown during the game.

Over 45.5 Total Points

Let’s be real. This game will either be really back-and-forth or both defenses will show up to the plate. This over is certainly going to hit if it’s anything like the Super Bowl, where both teams put up at least 35+ points each.

Jenn’s Philly-Philly Parlay (+130, BetMGM)

J. Hurts 1+ Passing TDs

D. Swift O 44.5 Rushing Yards

A.J. Brown O 69.5 Receiving Yards
