Notre Dame guards [autotag]Olivia Miles[/autotag] and [autotag]Sonia Citron[/autotag] are headed for the WNBA after this season. At least that’s the expectation. The real question is how high both players will be picked in the draft.
The WNBA draft lottery will take place Sunday. The participants are the Washington Mystics, Los Angeles Sparks, Dallas Wings and Chicago Sky. According to two projects, Miles and Citron both have a chance to be picked by one of those teams in the top four of the draft.
First things first though, both players are focused are bringing the Irish a national championship. Having [autotag]Hannah Hidalgo[/autotag] and rising freshman [autotag]Kate Koval[/autotag] with them will make the journey a lot easier.

The Chicago Sky have reportedly hired a new coach, and superstar forward Angel Reese seems to be a fan of the move.
ESPN reported on Saturday that Las Vegas Aces assistant coach and head of player development Tyler Marsh had agreed to a deal to join the Sky as its next head coach.
Marsh replaces Teresa Weatherspoon, who was fired in September after just one season.
Reese shared a simple “W” on Twitter (X) after news broke of Marsh’s reported hiring, seemingly indicating that she’s happy with the hire.
Chicago will now try to make the 2025 WNBA playoffs, a quest in which both Reese and reportedly Marsh will have key roles in for the franchise.
Of course it goes without saying that we’d love to see WNBA players make more money so they don’t have to play overseas in the offseason.
And for Angel Reese and her rookie salary, the Chicago Sky forward says she’s not making enough to cover her bills.
While on Instagram Live, she broke down her $8,000 rent and expenses to go along with her salary and said “I’m living beyond my means!”
For what it’s worth, she made nearly $74,000 in 2024 and will make a little more than that in 2025. She’s getting additional money in endorsements, but her point is that her salary doesn’t pay all of her expenses.
Angel Reese was better this season than you think.
This whole narrative of Angel Reese vs. Caitlin Clark is so over, but of course it pops up when the Indiana Fever guard was one vote away from a unanimous WNBA Rookie of the Year award.
There are a lot of questions flying around about who among WNBA reporters voted for Reese. That is moot (and also, if you’re hunting around for the reporter who did it to shame them, that’s horrible and you should stop it immediately).
It’s not that hot of a take. Does Clark deserve the award? Without a doubt! Maybe it’s more surprising that there weren’t a few more votes for Reese.
Shoutout to the voter who voted for Angel Reese and didn’t let Caitlin Clark be the unanimous Rookie of the Year…because that race was closer than some of y’all think. Bye pic.twitter.com/Cv5L0XYMAr
Good morning, folks! Welcome back to the Morning Win. Thanks so much for rocking with us today. We appreciate your time.
In today’s news that wasn’t on anyone’s bingo card, the Chicago Sky fired first-year head coach Teresa Weatherspoon late Thursday night while no one was paying attention.
Chances are, some of you probably didn’t even know this happened. The Chicago Sun Times’ Annie Costabile broke the news at 9:47 p.m. ET. Judging from the reactions online, it doesn’t seem anyone expected this.
And that’s why this decision is so mind-numbingly confusing. Weatherspoon seemed to have such a deep connection with the star players in that locker room.
Yes, we get it. The Sky missed the postseason for the first time since 2018 this year. The team ended the season on a five-game losing streak and only won two of its last 10 games.
But Weatherspoon deserved grace, and she very clearly wasn’t afforded it by the decision-makers in Chicago.
But, even without those injuries, Weatherspoon should’ve been given more runway to take off here.
She was handed an unequivocal mess from the Sky’s front office this season. Kahleah Copper demanded a trade after the Sky missed out on some big fish in free agency. The roster put together never quite made any sense. Offensively, so many pieces overlapped, including the two rookies Chicago drafted in the first round. Asking Weatherspoon to coach this team to the playoffs was asking her to make lemonade with limes.
She almost did it! Chicago was on the brink of the postseason until everything simply fell apart at the end of the season. Even still, she’d unlocked the best out of her best players. Angel Reese looks like a potential superstar. But it seems that wasn’t enough for Spoon to keep her job. What a shame.
I hope Chicago has a solid replacement in mind because they’ll have some big shoes to fill in that locker room.
The Cowboys win, but at what cost?
Good news, Cowboys fans! You got a win over the Giants. It was definitely a much-needed win. Falling to 1-3 after losing to Danny Dimes and the G-Men would’ve been devastating.
Bad news, Cowboys fans. Micah Parsons is probably going to be out for a minute. That defense looks pretty awful to start the year and now it’ll probably get much worse.
You never want to see an injury like this one, obviously. But the timing for Dallas isn’t as bad as it could be. Here’s the Cowboys’ upcoming schedule for the next few weeks:
@ Steelers, October 6
vs. Lions, October 13
BYE WEEK
@ 49ers, October 27
None of those games will be easy, but having a bye week in the middle of it helps a bit.
On the other side … the Giants.
The Giants arguably lost their best player on offense, too. Rookie receive Malik Nabers went down with a concussion just one play after Parsons exited with his ankle injury.
He didn’t leave before breaking an NFL record, though. He’s the first player in the NFL to record at least 30 catches in his first 4 games. That includes this one, where he probably could’ve scored.
The Giants got another one, man. How do they keep doing this?
Photo Friday: So long, Oakland
The A’s might stink, but seeing this team leave Oakland is still sad. The team has been there for 57 years. Now, it’s over.
In five years, Oakland has lost the Raiders, Warriors, and, now, the A’s. Just devastating. I can’t imagine being a sports fan in that town right now. It’s got to be conflicting.
Reesepraised Weatherspoon just a couple of days ago and shared her shocked reaction on social media after the reported firing.
“I’m heartbroken,” Reese said on Twitter (X) after the news was public. “I’m literally lost for words knowing what this woman meant to me in such a pivotal point in my life. She was the only person that believed in me. The one that trusted me.”
You can see Reese’s full comment below on the reported firing.
I’m heartbroken. I’m literally lost for words knowing what this women meant to me in such a pivotal point in my life. She was the only person that believed in me. The one that trusted me. Many don’t even know what it’s like to be a black women in sports when nobody believes in…
Angel Reese is speaking out about the racist, fan-related incidents plaguing the WNBA.
Chicago Sky rookie forward Angel Reese is speaking out as the conversation around racist incidents targeted at WNBA players understandably intensifies.
Sharing a clip from ESPN’s Andraya Carter addressing the problematic issues the league faces, Reese shared her perspective about how she feels she’s been treated during the past two years.
“Y’all know i’ve been going through this for the last 2 years but was told ‘save the tears’ & ‘stop playing victim,'” Reese shared through her social media on Thursday evening. “Y’all a little late to the party and could have tried to put out this fire way before it started….”
You can see Reese’s full statement below via Twitter (X).

I’ve never in my life had privilege but I definitely know the power I have through my platform. That didn’t come overnight. I grew that on my OWN. With that being said, I will continue to use my voice in the right way & say what’s right even though it has backfired on me to be…
For the past 2 years, the media has benefited from my pain & me being villainized to create a narrative. They allowed this. This was beneficial to them. I sometimes share my experiences of things that have happened to me but I’ve also allowed this to happen to me for way too long…
Caitlin Clark has been playing basketball almost nonstop for nearly a year, and that finally has come to an end. A lot of it at the end had to do with former Notre Dame guard [autotag]Marina Mabrey[/autotag].
The Connecticut Sun acquired Mabrey from the Chicago Sky during the season, and that move has paid off so far. Mabrey scored 17 points as the Sun swept Clark’s Indiana Fever out of the first round of the WNBA playoffs with an 87-81 Game 2 victory.
Mabrey, starting in place of the injured Tyasha Harris, shot only 3 of 10 from 3-point range during the game, but she made two big ones late. One of them came as an answer to one from Clark, who led all scorers with 25 points:
A few minutes later, with the Fever’s season hanging in the balance, Mabrey hit from downtown again to squash any doubts that this game would end in the Sun’s favor:
Mabrey performed spectacularly in the two-game sweep. She led all scorers with 27 points off the bench in Game 1.

Former Notre Dame standout [autotag]Brianna Turner[/autotag] has established herself during her six seasons in the WNBA. While she’s played fewer minutes this year with the Chicago Sky than she did during her five years with the Phoenix Mercury, it’s not like she doesn’t have accomplishments like two All-Defensive First Team selections.
Meanwhile, UConn is the biggest brand in women’s basketball across all levels, and the proof is there in all of its national championships. So it stands to reason for casual or ill-informed fans that any elite women’s basketball player to emerge over the past quarter-century went there or still goes there.
Turner, of course, did not go to UConn. The accolades she earned while with the Irish are too many to list, making her one of the most accomplished players ever to come through South Bend.
Apparently, some people don’t recognize this though because Turner took to social media to reveal this anecdote:
We don’t know for sure, but is it possible this person confused her with Breanna Stewart, who’s been away from the Huskies longer than Turner’s been away from the Irish? It would be a logical explanation.
Stewart and Turner met only once during their collegiate careers, and that was when the Huskies beat the Irish for the 2015 national championship. Turner actually outscored Stewart in that game, racking up 14 points while Stewart had only eight.
The point of all this? The Huskies don’t have a monopoly on elite women’s basketball talent, hard as that might be to believe.

The Chicago Sky were down so bad that fans made a meme.
Angel Reese and her Chicago Sky teammates might have unintentionally created a new meme during a demoralizing loss to the Washington Mystics.
Despite a season-ending injury, Angel was courtside Wednesday as the Sky hosted the Mystics in a game with significant playoff implications. Chicago needed to win to widen the gap between Washington and the Atlanta Dream as all three teams race toward the final spot for postseason play.
What could have been a tremendous victory turned into a nightmare as the Mystics, who have been surging, beat Chicago by over 30 points. One WNBA fan caught the moment when Angel, Diamond DeShields and Elizabeth Williams hung their heads on the bench, seemingly embarrassed or disgusted by what they were witnessing.
How we all felt during this game tonight. Mystics beat Chicago 89-58 to move within 1 game of the eighth-place Sky for final playoff spot. This has been a hard year for our team. #angelreese#chicagosky#diamonddeshields#elizabethwilliams
