Vegas Golden Knights at Chicago Blackhawks odds, picks, and predictions

Analyzing Wednesday’s Vegas Golden Knights at Chicago Blackhawks odds and lines, with NHL expert picks, predictions and best bets.

The Vegas Golden Knights (42-31-7) travel to meet the Chicago Blackhawks (27-42-11) at United Center Wednesday. Puck drop is scheduled for 8:30 p.m. ET (ESPN+). Below, we look at the Golden Knights vs. Blackhawks odds and lines, and make our expert NHL picks, predictions and bets.

The Golden Knights are still technically alive for the final playoff spot in the Western Conference, but after a 3-2 overtime loss in Dallas, they’re on serious life support. They’re four points back of the Stars with two to go, and Dallas needs just one point in the remaining games to eliminate VGK.

The Blackhawks have long since been eliminated from playoff contention. Chicago picked up a victory Monday against Philadelphia, its first win in regulation since March 23 in Anaheim. The home crowd hasn’t seen a regulation victory since March 8, also against the Ducks oddly enough.

Golden Knights at Blackhawks odds, spread and lines

Odds provided by Tipico Sportsbook; access USA TODAY Sports Scores and Sports Betting Odds hub for a full list. Lines last updated at 8:10 a.m. ET.

  • Money line: Golden Knights -220 (bet $220 to win $100) | Blackhawks +175 ($100 to win $175)
  • Against the spread (ATS): Golden Knights -1.5 (+120) | Blackhawks +1.5 (-150)
  • Over/Under (O/U): 6.5 (O: -102 | U: -122)

Golden Knights at Blackhawks projected goalies

Logan Thompson (9-5-1, 2.64 GAA, .917 SV%, 1 SO) vs. Kevin Lankinen (7-15-6, 3.53 GAA, .890 SV%)

Thompson appeared to be shaken up after a third-period collision Tuesday, but he stayed in to finish up in Dallas. He is the top option with Robin Lehner and Laurent Brossoit each done, so he’ll have to start with the quick turnaround. Jiri Patera is the backup, and likely to start the finale if VGK is eliminated.

Lankinen was in between the pipes for the win over Philadelphia Monday, turning aside 33 of the 34 shots he faced for his second win in the past four starts. He allowed five goals on 36 shots in a wild 5-4 OT loss in Vegas on March 26, his only appearance vs. VGK this season.

Golden Knights at Blackhawks odds, lines, picks and predictions

Prediction

Blackhawks 4, Golden Knights 3

Money line

The BLACKHAWKS (+170) are worth playing as heavy home ‘dogs.

The Golden Knights (-210) would cost you more than two times your potential return, and that’s too much given their uncertain goaltending situation. They’ll be keeping an eye on the scoreboard, too, as Dallas plays at home against lowly Arizona, also at 8:30 p.m. ET. If the Stars go up big, VGK could pack it in.

Against the spread

The BLACKHAWKS +1.5 (-150) aren’t priced out of line if you don’t trust them straight up and would like a little insurance.

Over/Under

OVER 6.5 (-102) is play here.

Thompson is bushed, and he has the unenviable task of going back-to-back with travel. That’s tough for any NHL player, but especially for a goalie. He’ll be tired, and the Blackhawks could get to him. Chicago might also see Patera in his first NHL action if Vegas gets behind early and throws in the towel.

Vancouver Canucks at Chicago Blackhawks odds, picks and prediction

Analyzing Monday’s Vancouver Canucks at Chicago Blackhawks Lightning odds and lines, with NHL expert picks, predictions and best bets.

The Vancouver Canucks (19-19-6) travel to meet the Chicago Blackhawks (16-21-7) Monday at United Center. Puck drop is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. ET. Below, we look at the Canucks vs. Blackhawks odds and lines, and make our expert NHL picks, predictions and bets.

The Canucks dropped a heartbreaker at Calgary in overtime by a 1-0 score Saturday. While Vancouver has lost just once in regulation in its last seven outings, the Canucks have won just once in the past five games, too.

The Blackhawks were on the short end of a 6-4 home loss against the Colorado Avalanche last time out Friday. Chicago has posted a 1-3-2 mark across its last six outings. Chicago lost the first meeting between the clubs 4-1 at home Oct. 21 and picked up a 1-0 victory in Vancouver Nov. 21 in the most recent matchup.

  • Money line: Canucks -115 ($115 to win $100) | Blackhawks -105 (bet $105 to win $100)

Canucks at Blackhawks projected goalies

Thatcher Demko (17-14-2, 2.57 GAA, .918 SV%, 1 SO) vs. Marc-Andre Fleury (14-14-3, 2.88 GAA, .909 SV%, 3 SO)

Demko has been red-hot lately, going 2-0-1 across his last three outings while coughing up just 4 total goals on 97 shots. All three of those impressive showings have come on the road.

Fleury has been knocked around for 15 total goals on 100 shots in his last four outings, going 1-3-0. One of his three shutouts came Nov. 21 in Vancouver.

Canucks at Blackhawks odds, lines, picks and predictions

Prediction

Blackhawks 3, Canucks 2

Money line

The BLACKHAWKS (-105) are a decent play at home behind Fleury, who shut the Canucks down last time they met. Neither of these teams is playing very well lately, so back the home side despite the fact the Blackhawks are just 3-9 in the past 12 tries against the Canucks.

Against the spread

The Alternate Spread Canucks +1.5 (-340) will cost you more than three times your potential return, and there just is no way to justify that kind of risk for such a little reward. If you like Vancouver just play them straight up.

PASS.

Over/Under

UNDER 5.5 (-102) is the lean, not only because these teams totaled just one goal in the meeting back in late November, but because these sides have each been struggling to light the lamp.

The Under is 5-1 in the past six games for Vancouver and is 5-1 in its last six on one days rest. The Under is also 3-1-1 in the last five against teams with a losing overall record for the Blackhawks.

Detroit Red Wings at Chicago Blackhawks odds, picks and prediction

Previewing Friday’s Detroit Red Wings at Chicago Blackhawks odds and lines, with hockey picks, tips and predictions.

In a meeting of two of the NHL’s Original Six, the Chicago Blackhawks (0-3-1) host the Detroit Red Wings (2-2-0) Friday at United Center to open a two-game series at 8 p.m. ET. Below, we analyze the Blackhawks-Red Wings odds and lines, with NHL picks and predictions.

Red Wings at Blackhawks: Odds, spread and lines

Odds via BetMGM; access USA TODAY Sports’ betting odds for a full list. Lines last updated at 2:02 p.m. ET.

  • Money line: Red Wings +120 (bet $100 to win $120) | Blackhawks -140 (bet $140 to win $100)
  • Against the spread/ATS: Red Wings +1.5 (-225) | Blackhawks -1.5 (+185)
  • Over/Under: 6.0 (O: -120 | U: +100)

Red Wings at Blackhawks: Projected starting goalies

Thomas Greiss (0-2, .930 SV%, 2.59 GAA) at Kevin Lankinen (0-0-1, .821 SV%, 4.79 GAA)

Greiss has played OK, as both his SV% and GAA are better than his career average. The problem is the Wings scored zero and 2 goals, respectively, in his two starts – they need to give him more help. Chicago averages 2.25 goals/game on 31.5 shots/game.

Lankinen, in his first NHL season, was in the starter’s net during Friday’s morning skate. He has just one game under his belt and gave up 5 goals on 30 shots in the process. Ouch. He won’t be as tested against the Wings, who average. 2.25 goals/game on 24.75 shots/game, but he’ll be a liability in this one.

Red Wings at Blackhawks: Odds, betting lines, predictions and picks

Prediction

Red Wings 4, Blackhawks 2

Money line (ML)

The Blackhawks (-140) have only been competitive in one of their games, a 5-4 OT loss to the Florida Panthers Tuesday. Before that, the Blackhawks managed just 5 goals in three games.

The Red Wings (+120), coming off a 3-2 OT win over the Columbus Blue Jackets Tuesday, have shown more grit and hustle than they did a season ago, splitting their first two series with the Carolina Hurricanes and Columbus so far.

It won’t be often I recommend a Wings ML bet, but it’s the best value here. BET DETROIT (+120).

Against the spread (ATS)

While the Red Wings are one of the NHL’s worst teams, the Blackhawks, who have scored two or less goals in three of four games, have looked worse. The Wings are 3-1 ATS; while not explosive, they’re staying with competition thus far. The Blackhawks are 1-3 ATS.

The oddsmakers have a lot of juice (-225) on the Wings at staying within 1.5 goals. It’s not a bad play. There just isn’t much profit – a $100 wager returns just $44.44 profit if Detroit outright wins or loses by just one goal. There is better value on the money line if you think the Wings can pull the upset. PASS on the puck line.

Over/Under (O/U)

It is tough to depend on two teams who lack much scoring punch, but these squads should be able to put on an OK showing and Chicago’s netminder has been awful. The total is set at 6 (Over: -120, Under +100/EVEN).

Chicago is 3-1 vs. the O/U, through very little of its own doing, but the Blackhawks are at least peppering the net. The Red Wings are 1-3 vs. the O/U. While this line is likely to move down half-a-point and my lean is the Under (+100), I’ll PASS on the Total.

The Chicago Blackhawks (0-2-0) and Florida Panthers (0-0-0) square off Sunday for a 7 p.m. ET puck drop at BB&T Center in Sunrise, Fla. Below, we analyze the Blackhawks-Panthers NHL betting odds and lines, with picks and predictions.

Blackhawks at Panthers: Betting odds, spread and lines

Odds via BetMGM; access USA TODAY Sports’ betting odds for a full list. Lines last updated at 9:35 a.m. ET.

  • Money line: Blackhawks +130 (bet $100 to win $130) | Panthers -155 (bet $155 to win $100)
  • Against the spread/ATS: Blackhawks +1.5 (-200) | Panthers -1.5 (+165)
  • Over/Under: 6.5 (O: -130 | U: +105)

Blackhawks at Panthers: Projected starting goalies

Malcolm Subban (0-1-0, 848 SV%, 5.03 GAA) vs. Chris Driedger (2019-20 stats: 7-2-1, .938 SV%, 2.05 GAA)

Both Subban and Collin Delia allowed five goals apiece in their starts against the Tampa Bay Lightning.

Driedger will make the start, with Samuel Montembeault serving as the backup, as the team has deemed Sergei Bobrovsky unfit to play. He missed a huge chunk of training camp.

Blackhawks at Panthers: Odds, betting lines, predictions and picks

Prediction

Panthers 4, Blackhawks 2

Money line (ML)

The PANTHERS (-155) are the play in their regular-season opener. While it was a bummer they had their first two games against the Dallas Stars canceled, facing the stumbling Blackhawks should ease them back into action with a little success.

Yes, Chicago is 6-2 in its past eight trips to Sunrise, but that was as a contender, not a banged-up team which is a shell of its former champion self.

Against the spread (ATS)

The PANTHERS -1.5 (+165) are worth a roll of the dice at home, as Chicago has allowed 5 goals per game. Florida has an impressive offense, and the additions of Anthony Duclair, Carter Verhaeghe and Alexander Wennberg will help give them depth behind team leaders Aleksander Barkov and Jonathan Huberdeau.

Until the Blackhawks start to show some resistance, keep fading them.

Over/Under (O/U)

UNDER 6.5 (+105) is the play, and it’s even more attractive at plus-money. Yes, the Blackhawks have allowed 5 goals per game, but they have potted three total goals in two games, and Florida is playing its first game of the season and might have some rust out of the gate.

This isn’t expected to be a low-scoring game, but a line of 6.5 is a bit much.
