Chicago Bears at Minnesota Vikings odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Sunday’s Chicago Bears at Minnesota Vikings odds and lines, with expert NFL picks, predictions and best bets.

The Chicago Bears (2-2) make their annual short flight north to face division rival Minnesota Vikings (3-1) at US Bank Stadium. Sunday’s kickoff is at 1 p.m. ET (FOX). Below, we analyze Tipico Sportsbook‘s lines around the Bears vs. Vikings odds, and make our expert NFL picks and predictions.

After beating San Francisco in the rain in Week 1, the Bears have lost 2 of the last 3. Green Bay beat them into submission 27-10 and the Giants throttled the Bears offense in a 20-12 win. Quarterback Justin Fields set season highs last week in pass attempts (22), completions (11) and passing yards (174) — which would be season-worst numbers for most QBs.

The Vikings are 3-1, but have been doing it with mirrors. The offense is middle of the pack in the team rankings and the defense is 25th or worse in 8 of 18 statistical categories ranked by the NFL.

Minnesota hasn’t played a complete game since Week 1 and getting a struggling young QB in surroundings that can be deafening should give the Vikings the opportunity to flex their muscles in all 3 phases and take advantage of critical mistakes.

PASS

I have a hard time making bets on anything where my buy-in is over -125, so having to invest almost 4 times my return is off the table. Let’s move on.

Against the spread

Take the VIKINGS -7.5 (-110).

Teams have taken care of Chicago early. The Bears have been outscored 42-6 in the 2nd quarter, which allows opponents to make halftime adjustments with a lead to protect. With the seeming inability and/or unwillingness to throw, that puts Chicago in a box.

I don’t believe the Vikings are a dominant team by any stretch, but they have the weapons on offense to push the issue and if the Bears have too many 3-and-outs, points come in bunches.

Over/Under

Take the OVER 43.5 (-115).

Minnesota will get plenty of chances on offense to make plays and have a balanced attack that can take advantage of the Bears’ defensive weaknesses. That said, with as bad as the Vikings defense has been in so many critical areas — 3rd down, red zone, goal-to-go, etc. — the Bears will score enough points to hit the Over.

Many strange things have happened in the Bears favor when it comes to playing the Vikings over the years, but this isn’t a night game at Soldier Field. This is at high noon at home with the unhinged SKOL clap crowd in full throat. Vikings roll and allow the Bears enough points to make it work.

Chicago Bears at Minnesota Vikings odds, picks and prediction

Analyzing Sunday’s Chicago Bears at Minnesota Vikings Week 18 odds and lines, with expert NFL picks, predictions and best bets.

The Chicago Bears (6-10) and Minnesota Vikings (7-9) close out their disappointing 2021 seasons when they meet at 1 p.m. ET Sunday at US Bank Stadium in Minneapolis. Below, we look at the Vikings vs. Bears odds and lines, and make our best NFL picks, predictions and bets.

Two teams that finished the 2020 season on the same field with the winner going to playoffs (Chicago) and the loser going home (Minnesota) are now closing out non-playoff seasons that could see both of their head coaches fired.

Both teams have COVID-related question marks, as the Bears will be forced to stick with a banged-up QB Andy Dalton, while Minnesota currently has three starters (including two offensive linemen) still in the COVID protocol at the end of Friday’s practice.

Bears at Vikings odds, lines, predictions and picks

Prediction

Vikings 23, Bears 20

Money line

The Bears have been a thorn in Minnesota’s side, winning all three games at US Bank Stadium during Matt Nagy’s tenure. It will be critical for the Bears to get after Vikings QB Kirk Cousins because he is awful when he has pressure in his face.

But with Hicks out and Quinn and Goldman as question marks, Cousins should get enough time to get the team in scoring position enough to win.

If I was going to bet on this, I’d place a small bet on the Bears given their recent track record on the road in this series at nearly twice the payout for investment.

But the smart move is to AVOID.

Against the spread

The same rationale applies here. The Bears don’t struggle on the road against their division rival, and, despite having an offense that has sputtered much of the season, the Vikings’ run defense has been among the worst in the league.

It wouldn’t be surprising to see Bears RB David Montgomery run 20-25 times and Chicago scoring enough points to cover the 4.5 point spread.

BET the BEARS +4.5 (-115)

Over/Under

Given the disparity in the betting lines, the belief is that this game will go Over, but I’m not as convinced as the oddsmakers.

The Bears are going to try to grind the ball against a defense that struggles to stop it and Vikings head coach Mike Zimmer was fuming over not giving RB Dalvin Cook the ball enough in a blowout loss to Green Bay last week.

Look for Cook and Montgomery to both be front and center in the respective game plans, which will take 40 seconds off the clock every time they run and make it more difficult to hit 44 points.

They’ll come close, but take the UNDER 44.5 (-112)

Bears at Vikings: Odds, betting lines, predictions and picks

Prediction

Vikings 27, Bears 24

Money line (?)

This game has the potential to go either way. Minnesota’s -175 price is quite a bit to invest for a limited return. While I would avoid this bet, the Bears have a decent chance to win, so if you were to bet the money line, I would suggest a small wager on CHICAGO (+150) despite the belief that Minnesota will win a tight game.

Against the spread (?)

As stated earlier, I believe this will be tight throughout and decided very late and most likely with a field goal. Take CHICAGO +3.5 (-115).

Over/Under (?)

The Bears offense has had its struggles, but Minnesota’s cornerbacks are the youngest group in the league and have been lit up for big plays all season. That, combined with missing defensive standouts DE Danielle Hunter and LB Anthony Barr (both on IR) and Kendricks, make an ugly defense worse. Minnesota has the weapons on offense to move the ball quickly and score points, even against a stingy Chicago defense. That combination will lead to more touchdowns that field goals. Take OVER 46.5 (-105).
