Penn State football transfer portal tracker

The transfer portal is open. Stay on top of every Penn State transfer coming and going with our updated tracker.

It’s the most wonderful time of the year. Sure, the holiday season is in full swing, but the transfer portal for college football is officially open, and Penn State will once again look to be active in the portal activity in an attempt to bolster a couple of positions in need of improvement.

Of course, a number of players on the football roster will take this opportunity to explore some other opportunities to find a new environment that will allow them to embrace a fresh start, pursue more playing time with another program, or simply just move closer to home.

The first day of the transfer portal being open led to a couple of Penn State players entering their names in the transfer portal. And we are ready to keep track of all of the transfer portal activity this month.

The transfer portal opened on Dec. 4, 2023 and closes on Jan. 2, 2024. Here is a look at the latest developments with the portal and Penn State with a review of what players are currently in the transfer portal, who has committed elsewhere, and what players are coming to Penn State out of the portal.

Report: Boise State hires special teams coordinator Stacy Collins away from Penn State

Boise State hires special teams coordinator Stacy Collins away from Penn State

[autotag]James Franklin’s[/autotag] offseason will now include replacing all three coordinators on his staff. He already hired [autotag]Andy Kotelnicki[/autotag] to replace Mike Yurcich and [autotag]Tom Allen[/autotag] to replace Manny Diaz last month.

It was reported Friday morning by ESPN’s Adam Rittenberg that Penn State’s special teams coordinator and outside linebackers coach [autotag]Stacy Collins[/autotag] will be returning to Boise State. Collins coached at Boise State during the 2021 season before being hired by Franklin.

Based on Rittenberg’s report, it looks as if Collins will receive a promotion once returning to Boise, gaining the title of assistant head coach. The special teams unit stood out this year and seemed to never miss a beat on gameday. His work with the linebackers and recruiting prowess will definitely be missed in Happy Valley. Collins was also a major factor in handing over punter returning duties to nickel cornerback [autotag]Daequan Hardy[/autotag] partway through last season. Hardy flourished in his new role and even returned two punts for touchdowns against UMass.

It is now a full-blown turnover for Penn State’s coaching staff under Franklin, with three new hires all in the matter of one offseason. Whoever takes the reigns of Collins’ room has plenty of talent to work with, including star running back and returner [autotag]Nicholas Singleton[/autotag], along with punter [autotag]Riley Thompson[/autotag] and Tulsa transfer [autotag]Chase Meyer[/autotag] at kicker.

Penn State adds kicker Chase Meyer from transfer portal

Penn State filled a position of need that isn’t wide receiver with this latest transfer commitment.

It appears a weekend visit to State College was enough to make a transfer decision in favor of Penn State. On Sunday, kicker [autotag]Chase Meyer[/autotag] announced his commitment to the Nittany Lions out of the transfer portal from Tulsa.

Meyer’s commitment to Penn State helps fill a vacancy on the special teams portion of the Penn State roster with the departure of Alex Felkins, who came to the program a year ago from the transfer portal as well. Meyer will compete for the starting job with returning Sander Sahaydak, who had some struggles in 2023 before Felkins took over the primary kicking duties.

Meyer will have three years of eligibility to play two seasons in State College, so he could be more than a one-year figure for the special teams.

Meyer is coming off a season with 17 field goals on 20 attempts for Tulsa, and he was 30-for-31 on extra-point attempts. Like Felkins, Meyer also has some Ivy League experience with a season at the University of Pennsylvania in 2022. Meyer is a California native who played for Mater Dei.

Meyer is Penn State’s second commitment from the transfer portal on the board for this year’s transfer cycle. He joins offensive tackle Alan Herron from Division 2 Shorter University.

Meyer reportedly chose Penn State over Oklahoma for his final transfer decision.
