Texas A&M vs. Texas Friday availability report ahead of Saturday’s matchup

Here is the latest availability report, including an update on Texas A&M starting left guard Chase Bisontis

Texas A&M (8-3, 5-2 SEC) enters the final week of the 2024 regular season with everything on the line when the Aggies host the Texas Longhorns on Saturday night for a bid to the SEC Championship game against Georgia.

While it looked highly unlikely that the Aggies would even have a shot at the  College Football Playoff, Alabama’s shocking loss to Oklahoma opened the door for the Maroon & White to win their way in, no matter how tough that may seem on paper.

Throughout the week, head coach Mike Elko and his team will try to enjoy Thanksgiving on Thursday, but that’s a hard ask given what’s coming while needing to prepare for the toughest overall battle this season.

Several injury reports have been released during the week. Friday’s latest availability report included an update on Texas A&M starting left guard Chase Bisontis, while Texas starting quarterback Quinn Ewers (ankle) remains probable to play.

Texas A&M injury updates:

  • Le’Veon Moss- RB (Out for the season)
  • Mark Nabou – OL (Out for the season)
  • Cyrus Allen – WR (Out for the season)
  • Tyreek Chappell – DB (Out)
  • Rueben Owens – RB (Questionable)
  • Jaydon Hill – CB (Questionable)
  • Will Lee III – CB (Questionable)
  • Jaylen Henderson – QB (Questionable)
  • Chase Bisontis – OL (Probable)

Texas injury updates:

  • Derek Williams Jr. – DB (Out)
  • CJ Baxter – RB (Out)
  • Christian Clark – RB (Out)
  • Velton Gardner – RB (Out)
  • Quinn Ewers – QB (Probable)

Chase Bisontis Update:

Texas A&M’s star left guard is now listed as probable as of Friday, giving him a 75% chance to start, which automatically boosts the Aggies blocking up front. A healthy Bisontis is a huge boost when you need to control the ball and elongate drives.

Quinn Ewers Update:

Quinn Ewers is almost guaranteed to start, as the junior has been listed as probable throughout the week. Still, his ankle could be an issue early if the Aggies’ defense line makes an early impact, which could lead to the insertion of backup QB Arch Manning.

No. 19 Texas A&M will host No. 3 Texas on Saturday, Nov. 30 at 6:30 pm. CT. The game will air on ABC.

Big changes to Texas A&M’s Week 13 injury report ahead of facing Auburn

Could running back Rueben Owens return to the lineup this season?

15th-ranked Texas A&M (8-2, 5-1 SEC) will head to Alabama this weekend to face Auburn (4-6, 1-5 SEC) in a must-win matchup for the Aggies, who are vying for a spot in the SEC Title game and the College Football Playoff.

On Tuesday, it was revealed that the Aggies will stay at No. 15 in the CFP rankings, still needing to win out to reach the 12-team field. However, this isn’t a surprise, even though A&M’s two losses are to South Carolina (on the road) and Notre Dame, who are both ranked.

This week, head coach Mike Elko’s focus on the Auburn Tigers hasn’t wavered despite his slip of the tongue on Monday, knowing that playing on the road in any SEC environment, especially at night, is always a significant challenge.

Injury-wise, Monday’s news that junior wide receiver Cyrus Allen will miss the rest of the season isn’t as surprising as the newest Wednesday availability report, revealing two key injury updates to starting left guard Chase Bisontis and sophomore running back Rueben Owens.

Texas A&M injury updates:

  • Rueben Owens – RB (Doubtful)
  • Le’Veon Moss – RB (Out for the season)
  • Mark Nabou – OL (Out for the season)
  • Tyreek Chappell – DB
  • Chase Bisontis – OL (Doubtful)
  • Jaylen Henerson – QB
  • Cyrus Allen – WR (Out for the season)

Auburn injury updates:

Chase Bisontis Update:

While Elko didn’t provide an update on Monday, starting left guard Chase Bisontis likely won’t play against Auburn unless something changes this week. However, Wednesday’s reveal gives the sophomore a 25% chance to play, meaning a return to Texas is almost guaranteed if he doesn’t suit up this weekend.

Rueben Owens Update:

This was the most surprising news of the week, as the rumblings regarding Rueben Owen’s return to the active roster after his previous season-ending lower leg injury have come to fruition. Listed as doubtful, Owens, like Bisontis, has a 25% chance to make his season debut, but this is a great sign either way regarding his eventual return to A&M’s depleted RB room.

Texas A&M will face Auburn on the road on Saturday, Nov. 23 at 6:30 pm. CT. The game will air on ESPN.

Texas A&M vs. Auburn injury report: Latest updates, news for Week 13 matchup

Here is the initial injury report ahead of Texas A&M’s Week 13 road test vs. Auburn on Saturday night

15th-ranked Texas A&M (8-2, 5-1 SEC) will head to Alabama this weekend to face Auburn (4-6, 1-5 SEC) in a must-win matchup for the Aggie team vying for a spot in the SEC Title game and the College Football Playoff.

The SEC schedule makers want to make things as stressful as possible for Aggie fans. Texas A&M vs. Auburn will kick off at 6:30 p.m. CT. in front of what should be a packed Jordan-Hare Stadium, as the home team will look to play spoiler.

This week, head coach Mike Elko noted that his team is completely focused on the task while the season-finale showdown vs. Texas looms. This isn’t a surprise for the veterans who haven’t experienced games in November that have actual postseason implications, knowing what’s on the line as soon as they hit the field on Saturday night.

Elko also revealed a key injury update on Monday: Junior wide receiver Cyrus Allen is officially out for the season after sustaining an arm injury during Saturday’s 38-3 win over New Mexico State.

Texas A&M injury updates:

  • Rueben Owens – RB (Out for the season)
  • Le’Veon Moss – RB (Out for the season)
  • Mark Nabou – OL (Out for the season)
  • Tyreek Chappell – DB
  • Chase Bisontis – OL
  • Jaylen Henerson – QB
  • Cyrus Allen – WR (Out for the season)

Auburn injury updates:

Chase Bisontis Update:

While Elko didn’t provide an update on Monday, starting left guard Chase Bisontis likely won’t play against Auburn unless something changes this week, but I fully expect the sophomore to be back for the Texas game, which has been the plan all along.

Cyrus Allen Update:

Cyrus Allen is out for the season, meaning senior wide receiver Moose Muhammad III will likely be thrust back into the lineup, which could be great news for the passing game if he can play to his full potential.

Muhammad’s unwillingness to block has kept him off the field throughout the season, so that is definitely something to watch. However, freshman WR Ashton Bethel-Roman is also a name to watch after an impressive short showing on Saturday night.

Texas A&M will face Auburn on the road on Saturday, Nov. 23 at 6:30 pm. CT. The game will air on ESPN.

Texas A&M HC Mike Elko provides an update on OL Chase Bisontis’s impending return

Starting left guard Chase Bisontis is on track to return to the lineup very soon

Texas A&M head coach Mike Elko knows what’s at stake over the next three games. The Aggies are currently the 15th-ranked team in the latest College Football Playoff rankings, sitting at 7-2 and 5-1 in SEC play. Is the ranking accurate, fair, etc.? It’s all up for debate.

However, Elko knows that defeating New Mexico State, Auburn (on the road), and Texas will guarantee a spot in the SEC Championship, but knowing if that’s enough to reach the 12-team playoff is still up in the air.

On Wednesday, Elko spoke to the local Aggie media during the weekly SEC Teleconference, providing an important and positive update on starting left guard Chase Bisontis. Bisontis has missed the last three games due to a lower-body injury.

“He’s still working back in, and we’re hoping to get him back as soon as possible.”

While Elko’s quote is vague, I don’t expect Bisontis to be ready this weekend, which means next Saturday’s road test against Auburn and, of course, the season finale against the Texas Longhorns.

Before his injury, Bisontis was playing at an All-SEC level, as his summer switch to guard was the right move by Elko and O-line coach Adam Cushing.

No. 14 Texas A&M will host New Mexico State on Saturday, Nov. 16. The game will air on SEC Network at 6:45 p.m. CT.

Texas A&M vs. New Mexico State injury report: Latest updates, news for Week 12 matchup

Here is Texas A&M’s initial injury report ahead of Texas A&M’s Week 12 home matchup vs. New Mexico State

15th-ranked Texas A&M (7-2, 5-1 SEC) will host New Mexico State on Saturday night, which will also serve as the Aggies’ senior night instead of the season finale blockbuster vs. Texas on Nov. 30.

This week, head coach Mike Elko has continued to preach discipline and focus on things he and his coaching staff can fix in practice before the Aggies take the field, especially on defense after missing 25 missed tackles in the 44-20 loss to South Carolina in Week 10.

However, the loss of star running back Le’Veon Moss has thrown a wrench in the offensive game plan, as junior back Amari Daniels and senior EJ Smith will now take most of his snaps. At the same time, OC Collin Klein will need to be more creative and tailor the game plan to QB Marcel Reed’s dual-threat skillset at an even greater rate.

During Monday’s press conference, Mike Elko only provided one update regarding third-string quarterback Jaylen Henderson, who is “still hurt”, while starting left guard Chase Bisontis’s status remains in the air.

New Mexico State injury updates:

  • Deuce Hogan – QB (Out for the season)

OL Chase Bisontis injury update

Bisontis’s absence has been noticeable over the past two games, especially against South Carolina, the O-line’s worst performance of the season. Facing an undersized New Mexico State team before heading to Alabama to take on Auburn, Bisontis will likely miss Saturday’s game and be ready against the Tigers and, most importantly, the season finale vs. Texas.

No. 14 Texas A&M will host New Mexico State on Saturday, Nov. 16. The game will air on SEC Network at 6:45 p.m. CT.

Texas A&M vs. South Carolina injury report: Friday Availability report before Week 10 matchup

Here is the updated availability report for Texas A&M and South Carolina, showing little change ahead of Saturday

10th-ranked Texas A&M will head to Columbia (SC) to face one of the toughest SEC defenses in the country, as South Carolina brings constant pressure in the trenches due to the play of defensive ends Dylan Stewart and Kyle Kennard. However, it’s fair to say that the Gamecock’s four wins aren’t that impressive.

One of the primary reasons this game presents a big challenge on paper for the Aggies is A&M’s recent performance in pass protection in Saturday’s win against LSU, as starting quarterback Conner Weigman faced an overload of pressure before being benched in favor of backup Marcel Reed.

This week, head coach Mike Elko stated that he would continue to evaluate the quarterback position ahead of the matchup, giving both Reed and Weigman equal practice reps to determine the final choice. As Saturday nears, a decision has yet to be made.

Injury-wise, the third SEC Availability Report was released on Friday night. Texas A&M’s roster looks to be in great shape outside of starting left guard Chase Bisontis, who will miss at least the next two weeks due to a lower-body injury.

As of Friday, here is the latest SEC Availability report ahead of Saturday night:

Texas A&M injury report

  • Rueben Owens – RB (Out for the season)
  • Mark Nabou – OL (Out for the season)
  • Tyreek Chappell – DB (Out)
  • Chase Bisontis – OL (Out)
  • Jahdae Walker — WR (Out for first half)
  • Jaylen Henderson — QB (Questionable)

South Carolina injury report

  • Jakai Moore — OL (Out)
  • DeAndre Jules — DL (Out)
  • Jared Brown — WR (Probable)

OL Chase Bisontis injury update

After sustaining a lower-body injury against Mississippi State, Mike Elko stated on Monday that Bisontis will miss “a couple of weeks,” which is very good news for the Aggies, who will be on their second bye week after facing South Carolina on Saturday. Bisontis is expected to be ready to return against New Mexico State or at Auburn.

WR Jahdae Walker’s update

Jahdae Walker shouldn’t have been suspended for the first half of Saturday’s game after what was flagged as a blindside block and targeting against an LSU wide receiver during the Aggies’ 31-6 second-half run against the Tigers. Walker will come out of halftime with a chip on his shoulder, that’s for sure.

Texas A&M will travel to Columbia to face South Carolina on Saturday, Nov. 2nd, at 6:30 p.m. CT. The game will air on either ABC.

Here is the first availablity report for Texas A&M and South Carolina ahead of Saturday’s Week 10 matchup

10th-ranked Texas A&M will head to Columbia (SC) to face one of the toughest SEC defenses in the country, as South Carolina brings constant pressure in the trenches due to the play of defensive ends Dylan Stewart and Kyle Kennard.

On Wednesday, head coach Mike Elko stated that he would continue to evaluate the quarterback position ahead of the matchup, providing both Reed and Weigman equal practice reps this week to determine the final choice.

Texas A&M starting OL will ‘probably’ be out a couple of weeks

Texas A&M left guard Chase Bisontis could miss more time than expected

Texas A&M’s critical 38-23 win over the LSU Tigers has vaulted the Aggies to No. 10 in the AP Poll for the first time since the 2022 season. Head coach Mike Elko’s influence has taken hold after just eight games.

After making the change at quarterback in the second half of Saturday’s game, leading to redshirt freshman Marcel Reed leading the offense to five consecutive scoring drives, including three rushing touchdowns on his own end, Texas A&M’s offensive line looked much better in run blocking compared to pass protection.

In place of starting left guard Chase Bisontis, who missed his first game of the season due to a lower-body injury sustained against Mississippi State, sophomore OL TJ Shanahan was impressive as a run blocker but came out of the game as the lowest-graded pass protector per Pro Football Focus.

While Shanahan will likely start at left guard against South Carolina despite his struggles, Elko revealed on Monday that Bisontis will ‘probably’ be out for at least the next couple of weeks, which could mean he’ll return against New Mexico State on Nov. 16th after the Aggies’ second bye week.

Texas A&M will travel to Columbia to face South Carolina on Saturday, Nov. 2nd, at 6:30 p.m. CT. The game will air on either ABC or ESPN+.

Texas A&M OL Chase Bisontis seen wearing a walking boot

Texas A&M starting left guard Chase Bisontis was seen wearing a walking boot on the sideline pregame vs. LSU

No. 14 Texas A&M’s Week 9 home matchup against 8th-ranked LSU is underway. Still, the Aggies are without one of their star offensive linemen, as starting left guard Chase Bisontis was officially listed as OUT against the Tigers after starting every game this season.

However, Bisontis may be in worse shape than previously thought. The sophomore was seen on the sideline in a walking boot while using a scooter, which may indicate he could be out longer than a week. Still, nothing is set in stone until head coach Mike Elko provides another in-person update.

Sophomore TJ Shanahan will start in place for Bisontis against the Tigers, and likely for the remainder of the games, he’s out. He has started at center for several days this season but is also returning from injury due to a similar lower-body issue. Overall, Texas A&M has dodged any major injury issues outside of starting quarterback Conner Weigman’s shoulder issue, which resulted in him missing three games.

Texas A&M vs. LSU injury report: Latest updates, news for Week 9 matchup

Here is the updated SEC availabilty report ahead of Texas A&M vs. LSU

14th-ranked Texas A&M (6-1, 4-0 SEC) will host 8th-ranked LSU on Saturday night in a primetime showdown between two of the best teams in the SEC. Both teams have reeled off six consecutive wins after losing their 2024 season opener.

Texas A&M head coach Mike Elko and LSU head coach Brian Kelly have previewed the matchup throughout the week, praising each other’s coaching style and the program’s success. The Tigers’ roster knows that Kyle Field will likely be the loudest it’s been all season.

After last Saturday’s win over Mississippi State, Texas A&M starting left guard Chase Bisontis left mid-game after getting rolled up on, sustaining a lower-body injury that has left him off the active depth chart ever since.

After sustaining a lower-body injury against Mississippi State, Mike Elko started on Monday and again on Wednesday, and Bisontis was likely a game-time decision. However, as of Friday, he is again listed as OUT for Saturday’s game.

WR Terry Bussey’s injury update

After suiting up but not logging any snaps against Mississippi State, Elko reported that freshman wide receiver Terry Bussey is “fine” and should be available to return against LSU.

Texas A&M will host LSU at home on Saturday, Oct. 26th, at 6:30 p.m. CT. The game will air on ABC.
