Rutgers football checks-in with Connecticut prospect David Rivera

David Rivera has a visit from Rutgers football assistant Charlie Noonan.

David Rivera got a visit from Rutgers football at his Connecticut high school on Monday, this as the Big Ten program is continuing to build a relationship with the prospect.

A 6-foot-3, 285-pound interior defensive lineman from Waterbury Career Academy (Waterbury, Connecticut), Rivera was offered in late February by Syracuse. To date, that is his first and only Power Five offer.

Rivera’s production is certainly impressive. Last year as a junior, he had 72 total tackles and 18 tackles for a loss. He added five sacks, nine quarterback hurries, a pass defended and two fumble recoveries as well.

But things with Rutgers appear to be progressing with Rivera slated to attend a June camp. In addition, Charlie Noonan visited Rivera at school on Monday.

Noonan is a defensive line assistant with Rutgers. He is a former letterwinner and team captain of the Scarlet Knights.

Following his standout career at Rutgers, Noonan signed with the Philadelphia Eagles.

Rutgers football visits Bobby Acosta, Saint John Vianney

Rutgers coach Charlie Noonan visited Saint John Vianney High School to meet new head coach Bobby Acosta for recruiting opportunities.

On Tuesday, Rutgers football quality control coach Charlie Noonan visited Saint John Vianney High School (Holmdel, New Jersey) to meet new head coach Bobby Acosta for future recruiting opportunities.

Acosta was hired as Saint John Vianney’s head coach last week after spending last season as the offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach at Arkansas Pine Bluff. The Queens, New York native has ties throughout New Jersey, coaching multiple schools within his coaching career.

Acosta coached IMG Academy in Bradenton, Florida, to a national championship in 2020 and was Marlboro High School’s (New Jersey) head coach in 2003 and Monmouth Regionalโ€™s (New Jersey) head coach in 2006.

While coaching at Monmouth High School, Acosta guided the Falcons to an 8-3 record, capturing their first playoff win and the Shore Conference Liberty Division championship.

Acosta will be St. John Vianney’s fourth head coach in the last seven seasons and sixth in the previous 11 years. With the hiring of Acosta, the Scarlet Knights have a solid connection to South Jersey and the Shore Conference Class C North (Holmdel, Manalapan, Manasquan, Raritan, and Wall).

Rutgers football big board 2.0: Who will be the next linebackers coach?

Some names to keep an eye on to be the next linebackers coach at Rutgers.

The Rutgers football search for a new linebackers coach is set to enter its third week, and RutgersWire has updates to the coaching big board for the open position.

No hire has been made yet to replace C.J. Hetherman, who left to become the defensive coordinator at Minnesota. Hetherman will be tough to replace, given that he was a gifted coach and communicator and a strong recruiter.

That of course certainly doesn’t mean that Rutgers isn’t on the move and that head coach Greg Schiano isn’t trying to line up a coach.

Scroll down and check out who made the RutgersWire big board (2.0) to be the next linebackers coach with the Scarlet Knights. There are a few internal candidates for the role as well as a far-fetched name or two.
